Not knowing a lick about welding and metals and how long that will hold up, I'd say you did a fantastic job. Looks great and would look even better with a jet hot coating or something similar. Makes me wanna get off my butt and make something similar for a first welding project Actually, I literally need to make something similar but flipped upside down (RWD 4G63 setup with top mount T3)

"Sorry, no matches for that term."

Minus the pedals, underhood stickers, and the steering wheel cover, I think it looks very cool. The hood is even done very well. I hope it's fast. Is that your friend hiding in the first picture? Looks like he hates computers so much but wants to be in the picture still with his baby

Trailer Hubs To Fit Front S30 5 Lug

It's okay... we forgive you. And now I wanna be your friend because you live near the Dragon. You don't talk in all caps, too, do you? -

That's funny. Good eye, Jon. -
Any ideas for LS1/T56 out-of-car cradle?
ShaggyZ replied to Boy from Oz's topic in Fabrication / Welding
Holy crap, Pop! That motor looks huge! Is it a deceptive camera perspective or is it really so big? By the way, because the idea just came to me, I thought I'd mention I plan on using two scissor jacks to support my engine when I put it in the engine bay to correctly place the motor for welding up a cradle. Might use it outside of the car, as well if I want it low on the ground without setting on the ground. <--- no fancy solution to any real problem, I know. -

New HybridZ slogan: "...because, here at HybridZ, we DO care... NOW TURN OFF YOUR CAPS LOCK" Curious... What About The Guys Who Have Caps At The Beginning Of Each Word. That Takes A Lot Of Work. -
dosquattro saw fit to start another thread here: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=123658 I don't know if I should start another thread when I get to work on mine. I need to sell my other car first, though. A few more weeks and I'll hopefully start removing the old L28 to do so.

My First Z (With pictures!)
ShaggyZ replied to TeeJayHoward's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
Ditto... I would've turn and ran. But then I'm not an auto-philanthropist like TeeJayHoward. I get disappointed with a lot less <--- I just used that because I haven't seen it before -

Wow! I think you paid about $999 too much! Or maybe I'm just spoiled by the killer deals I've been getting lately. On the other hand, it's great to see an otherwise dead/dying Z car nursed back to health. Good luck! -
Ditto. I've been thinking about how I'm going to do my mounts for the 4G63 and started thinking I'd do mine like yours until I saw the pictures. Now I'm not so sure. I may stick to a cradle of some sort.

bump. No word?

Everything looks pretty except for the engraving. It might be more bearable after it's painted. Shouldn't the plenum angle down towards the runners as it reaches the back cylinders?

Holy canoly! Very few opps like that and even fewer actually caught on film. Ontop that, no one (save your camera man, kinda) was acting like a turd. Great jearb! I hope to do something remotely like this using the 4G63T soon.

I just found out the other day that a good friend and fellow Z-guy and his buddies started the Texas Heat Wave a long time ago with just a little rag tag car group consisting of a Z, several low-rider trucks, a Camaro and some other car. I was like "why didn't you ever tell me that?" I've never been because it's been too freaking hot, but the weather has been in the low-90's the past several weeks and should continue to be so this weekend... except I'm going to CO to get engaged

Very cool. Makes me miss my '81 Turbo Did anyone notice the performance figures given in the Sports Car Graphic magazine?! Over 10seconds for 0-60mph!
-
Definitely diesel (aren't they LD24?). There was a veggied 2+2 diesel 240Z but the guy sold it along with the website (veggiecar.com). I think it was also turbocharged. Ugly, but cool. I think he said he got it to 140mph.

Honestly, I have no idea. However, you can be pretty sure it will not. Seeing as there are plenty of RWD applications out there with the 6G72, I don't know why you would care.

FYI - this stuff has already been documented in this thread and another thread very recently (within a week or two) (http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=121875) along with a couple other threads in the past 5 or 6 years. If you're interested in this swap, just go to http://www.projectzerog.com That's where it's all happening. Also, the W series motors are NOT as strong as the R154. The kind of power the 4G makes stock would be fine for the W series but if you start putting close to 350HP or 400HP it's time for the R154. Bill Hincher (Japanese Auto dude on Project Zero G's forums) is the designer of the custom bellhousings. He originally made them for the W55/58 transmissions and had adaptors for using the R154. He didn't like the freaky adaptor for the R154 so he decided to design an entirely new bellhousing specifically for the R154. He has NOW just started revising the original bellhousing design (W55/58) using things he has learned through his process - basically, these revisions make them stronger, simpler, and cleaner. Check it out: http://www.projectzerog.com and go to the forums. Very tunable(sp?). But, in my opinion, one is better off with a standalone unit in this case. It wouldn't be much more expensive and you wouldn't have to worry about exploding capacitors in the factory computers. If we were talking about an LS1 or another engine with freaky sensors (late model EVO engines already making ~300HP with the factory tune), I would say try to stick with the stock ECU and use tuners. But then, would this just be another standalone engine management argument?

For the short time I had an '89 SHO (5spd), I spent a lot of time on the SHO forums. I think the general concensus is that they could rev to about 8600 RPM and making good power the whole way but the rev limiter was set to ~7200 RPM but the accessories couldn't take it. I crack up every time I think of exploding power steering pumps or a bolt of electricity shooting out the hood when the alternator overloads! FYI - I think there's a video of a turbocharged SHO (yes, the Yami motor) running the quarter mile. Sounded like crap, IMO, and it only ran a low 13 but it was still pretty cool. I think it may have just been cobbled together and thrown out on the track. Who knows what it's doing now...

I don't know what a helm joint is. I'm sure you know well enough to support their weight using the engine or that you you're gonna have solid motor mounts. Looks awesome, though!
-
I don't know why you'd have to remove the engine mount to get to a boot. On my 1987 Z31 Turbo, I was able to change out the turbocharger without removing the engine mount.

To my knowledge, the EVO VIII and IX motors are very different from your standard 4G63... at least, different enough in the important areas that you would be on your own for finding a way (tranny/bellhousing) to use those. Bill Hincher (Japanese Auto guy who has designed those custom bellhousings) made his bellhousings for 1G and 2G Eclipse/Talon/Laser motors (6 and 7 bolt) which all have the narrow block. YOu can be sure the EVO engines are fairly different, largely because they're mounted with the timing belt on the passenger side (versus the early Eclipse/Talon/Lasers with it on the driver side). Also, with the EVO engines, you'll have to worry about the MIVEC and other fancy things like that.
