  1. A lot of false info in this thread..both these motors are awesome...If you plan to make 500+ hp you got your work cut out for you..is your car set up for this kind of power? Saftey first! Remember 300whp in a s30 is wicked fast, im talking low 12's high 11's..

  2. 300 miles so far and everything still in good shape. Still can't get enough of that exhaust note, I'm going to try to take a vid this week so you guys can hear. The r154 supra trans and the stock r180 3.3 rear is a pretty good combo for cursing and conformable driving but a 3.50 or 3.70 gear would probably be perfect for performance/confornt...Since I'm getting old (:)) the stock gear actually what i prefer, in 5th going about 55mph sounds like I'm only turning about 2000 rpm..great!

I ordered some 16X8 513's today that should be here fri, maybe have them mounted next week..I haven't fixed my wideband yet but i know whats wrong; i have a bad sensor so i got to order another.. until then i will hold off on installing my 440cc 2jz injectors..I have been keeping the boost around 5-8psi until i know where I'm at with fuel but the car is still really fast; i still believe the z will run 12's as it sits and because of the 3.3 gear I'm not really loosing traction all crazy, just a little chirp after every gear..:)

So soon i will start bodywork, i plan to do a rough sanding job and prime the whole car so it looks better than it does now, then take one fender at a time and get everything striaght..more later

  3. I wanna do something different for the front of my car. Thought about mesh, extending the stock grill..etc what ideas do you guys have? how about pics of your favorite s30 fronts.

  4. hey guys im back! had some family things to deal with but I am focused on the z again. Got the new .58 housing on the turbo and it is perfect! the car is sooooo fast and gets great traction with the gear ratio that I am running. My brake booster died and I need a fiberglass hood and then I think I am ready to roll.

I have the .68 housing and mine is a little laggy, but nothing to bad..I know you haven't had the chance to really open her up but i wonder if the .58 housing pulls hard to redline? I'm actually thinking about going with a 6262, or something smaller like a gt3076 but that will be after i do paint, body work..etc

  5. I got around to installing the turbo oil feed restrict and i also figured out my radiator problem..The radiator just needed to be flush, man it was like mud coming out of there.. i thought i cleaned it but i guess after that 200 degrees hit, the temps must have loosen all the grim and dirt..

  6. I have a question for you; what do you want out of your car?.. I won't lie my 1jz 62-1 swap has lag but even with my lag the car is crazy fast. 0-60 I'm not worried about any v8 believe me... and 0-100 i might be able to take a c5 z06..lol not sure...Plus i like the fact i can cruise out of boost and save on gas and it's not like the car is gutless out of boost the s30 is a light car. Most people don't realize that deepening on how you drive and traction you can get a s30 in the 11's with only 300-325whp..

Now to answer your question, the 1jz and 2jz are similar when swapping. They both require custom motor/cross member mount. Both need custom trans mount.etc The 2jz is about 1-2 inches taller than the 1jz. hummmm they both can use the r154 trans from a mk3 supra(86.5-92 supra turbo)If you get a US r154 trans you will need a jdm bell housing( $300-$400) Which is the reason most just get a jdm motor set comes with motor and trans..the jdm 2jz comes with an auto trans.

Which to choose, it's up to you..In the long run both engines will both cost nearly the same..so in that case i guess the 2jz is the better choice..For me i love my 1jz and for my power goals the little money saved going with the 1jz is worth it to me. In the end like already said, all these engines are great in their own way..

  7. Wow! this car is insanely fast, so far so good. Engine runs like a champ, no vibration in the body so the mount is holding well. I have a couple of issues, i need a oil restrict in the turbo feed line, My car seems to be getting hot after about 30mins-hour of driving the temp goes to about 210 degrees and gets cooler at idle?? I'm not sure what thermostat i have?? I think it's because the Intercooler is mounted right in front of the rad. I'm using the stock rad. so might be time for a new aluminum RAD. I'm going to flush my system and if that doesn't work then I'm getting a new rad.

Did i say how fast this car is? Bark tires in 4th! Thats with the stock 14's though :) I do have a little lag that I'm not use to; i barley have any boost in first gear, but second is a different story. The 62-1 i have has a 68 a/r hot side that i thought would be pretty quick spooling.. possible Reasons for slower spooling are tuning, ebay crap turbo, or loose wastegate spring...etc

Over the past year, i have changed front and rear shocks and springs with tokico blues, which is the reason my car sits a little low in the front(pic soon)changed to poly bushings, installed front toyota 4 piston upgrade, new ball joints, new tie rod ends, new u joints all the way around. The car rides pretty good very tight steering, tight acceleration, trans is smooth.

The 1jzgte has a awesome exhaust note, hitting boost revving out to 7k is amazing; 1jz is one of the best sounding engine ever made bar none.

I still have to close in my rear hatch area where the fuel cell is, it's wide open right now :)My rear drums are frozen right now, my dad and i where able to unfreeze one, now tomorrow i will work on the other. My wide band is acting up, it reads 15.5 at idle, cruising and under hard acceleration?? I don't think that I'm lean only pushing 10psi.. Still have to wrap my exhaust and manifold to control under hood temps.. Might install my 440cc injectors tomorrow??? anyway more later..

  8. Awesome project man. I wish i could get my hands on a 2JZ for cheap.

Seems like you're having fun eh?

Well a jdm 2jzgte's are around $1500-2000 but you will need a manual trans and rear sump oil pan. Or you could boost a NA 2jz, those can be had for around $800 or cheaper.

  9. I saw your video on youtube... impressive.

Anyway, I did notice a tend in these swaps and I had a question for you. Ive noticed that people are always saying what a nightmare wiring the body harness into the new ECU, but the PO of my car had cut the wring harness out...leaving me to rewire everything else. Its not EFI, so I only had to deal with the lights, stereo, amp, and all that, but I digress.

I would assume that you are wiring in warning lights and gauges and whatnot. I have an autometer tach, speedo, and water temp gauge, and that's it... these are easy to wire up, so would I even need everything else that goes along with the harness? You know, all the "nightmarish" stuff?

Nope. you are correct. The wiring is fairly easy if you know what your doing, my brother helped me with mine.. All you have to do is supply power, ground and ign to the 1jz/2jz harness. My wiring harness was complete and intact, so all i did was grab a wire diagram and ecu pinout and made sure i applied power and ground where needed.

  10. alright guys here are the ics of my newly installed xxr 522's. I am running 205/50/r15 tires. The car is ugly right now so please pay that no mind as it will be going into the garage for body work and paint next week. I will also be lowering it 2 inches and I think it will look 10x's better. I am currently running the stock suspension and will be installing tokico suspension. They are 15x8 and i drover it around the block a couple times and didn't find any rubbing. The overall look of the car (being ugly as it is) takes away from the rims so i apoligize. Overall, I am happy with these but i should probably have gotten larger tires but oh well. Hope you enjoy the pics.

should have gotten the 16's but looks good

  11. The 4g63 is not worth the hassle in rwd form...Don't get me wrong i love the 4g63T in my mightmax but i know if I ever wanted 300whp or more the stock mightymax trans won't hold it and i don't want an Auto trans...There are engines that are just as good maybe better in some cases that have better trans to start with...your call..

  12. You cant spend only 500 dollars- at best get tires. Suspension parts cost a lot of money.

Of all people I almost never say this but- search. Search google to be honest- look what it takes to setup a rwd car for drag racing plenty out there.

Though sorry to tell you not for 500 dollars. sorry bud.

Not totally true, he can prolly swing some shocks and springs for under $500.. however my advice would be to replace all the worn parts..tie rod, ball joints..etc..Then save a liitle more and buy shocks and springs..

  13. I have seen the STI driveshaft and the WRX driveshaft. The WRX and 240z driveshafts will not properly fit the STI R180 LSD. The mating flanges are all similar, yet different. At 100 MPH, I would not trust anything except correctness.

I got a quote from http://driveshaftmasters.com/index.html on steel and aluminum, "A steel shaft $340.00 Alu. shaft $500.00". These are made with ALL NEW parts. I have not yet bought anything. Considering that a used STI driveshaft is $200 plus the mods, $340 sounds reasonable.

ok, no problem...my local shop only charged me $50 to modify my current driveshaft to work with my r154 supra trans..
