  1. K I have a downloaded FSM and I will check the wiring when I can. Will I have to remove much to get to all this? I have lights and I can wiggle under the wheel and cluster area. Also, my car was an automatic that was covered to the nissan 5 speed by the previous owner. Can the inhibitor switches cause this? What do they look like, so I can remove them.

  4. Concerning the valve cover, the smell is so faith and the engine runs so well. I figure it should be good for awhile till I get a rebuild. The engine is still cranking nonstop while the key is in the ON position. I swapped the ignition switch in the back of the ignition. That didn't work. I called up Borini, he said it may be the starter. What do you guys think? I will definitely be taking out the push to start.
  5. I feel I should explain the title a bit. The original 82, that was totaled, was named WZRD as in wizard. I had plans for the look of the car to match the name. Unfortunately, the look will remain under wraps. The new 1983 280zx Turbo will have the look of my original plans. I have a question about the fuel pump install. Is it basically direct swap? Obviously there is some minor modification. Do I need any other modifications like relays, fuses, etc. to get this Walbro 255 pump in?

Well for now I have ordered the Walbro pump, new injector connectors, new sensor connectors, fuel filter, Fram g3 fuel filter, new oil (10w30), new oil filter, new dip stick, new wires and plugs, and a wideband. All this will be going in asap. I had to get a new dipstick because the one in the car is bent and I could never get and reading off it. I never see any oil leaks, so I didn't worry. I will also be putting the timing down to 20. It is at around 23 right now. Hopefully this all helps out those smog devils. There has to be some o ring injector close to stock spec. The Stock 7MGE (supra) 295cc injectors are close. Only they are high impedance and have a different connection. Is it possible to swap connections and impedance. I have read on here somewhere its okay to use high impedance if the new injectors are close to spec. Then there's the red topped rb20det 270cc injectors that are high impedance as well. Is it common for ZXs to burn oil? Also, my valve cover and fpr line smells slightly of gas.
  7. Hello Hybridz. I am back with another 1983 280zx turbo 5speed. You may remember me from http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/109641-1982-280zxt-log/ . I have been distant from the topic because after getting it fully back to stock, it got totaled Luckily no one was hurt and I was fully covered under my insurance. The insurance company was able to get me this I been working on getting this thing running smooth stock. Then after that Ill start adding more power. Overall this was a great start. Some things needed to be worked on asap. The clutch was getting pretty old when I first got the car and it recently gave. I am modernizing the engine as I replace and refresh the car. So far these have been added: Exhaust 3in SS Mandrel Bend Walker Exhaust 15034 MagnaFlow Performance Mufflers 14419 LC1 Wideband and Autotimer Gauge (soon) Brakes Centric Slotted Rotors Centric Calipers New Brake Master Cylinder New Brake Booster Stainless Steel Brake Lines Porterfield R4 AP229 AP230 pads Ignition NGK 4291 Spark Plugs NGK 8mm Wires Transmission Exedy Stage 1 Organic Racing Clutch Kit Fidanza 10.5lb Flywheel Felpro Rear Main Bearing Set New Clutch Master/Slave Cylinder New O2 Sensor New PCV Valve New Fuel Filter (Soon) I am have issues smogging the car (Like every other Z out there). Even with all this stuff, the smog is off by a little. Idle speed and High Speed CO is about 3.5%, and it has to less than 1.29% Hydro Carbons are at 408, and they have to be less than 220. I put the timing at 24degrees. I'm going to push to back to 20. I have an old ECCS analyzer and it showed injector 3 not firing. I can hear it ticking, but its off. So I plan to change all the injectors out. With these the fuel rail will be swapped for a Pallnet rail, the fuel pump for a Walbro255lph, new connectors will be put in, and a new fpr. Now have two questions for injector sizing. I want to use o-ring style injectors for the new rail, but I am still using the stock ecu. Can the stock ecu run around 300cc? I have looked online and got mixed answers. What o-ring injectors would run with stock ecu? What kind of fuel pressure regulator would I run with those injectors?   8. I forgot to mention the PO put a push to start button in. The keys are still required to be on the ON position to start. I'm thinking it was already an issue and they bandaged it with the push to start. How could I disable the starter firing for the ignition in the ON position?
  9. I was checking things out with my old ECCS analyzer. I had it all plugged up with my ecu and didnt notice what the dial was on, and I started the car. A clunk noise could be heard periodically while idling. I unhooked everything and put it back to normal. Luckily it started and ran fine afterword. Now few hours later, when I out the key to the ON position it cranks the engine and doesnt stop. Any idea wtf is going on? What did I break...
  10. I need to know what kind of screw holds the rotor in the distributor. I dropped mine behind the radiator and its not coming out any time soon.
  11. I have an 83 280zxt. It has the t5 tranny. What diff comes stock? How can I check myself? What would you guys recommend for a DD with some light track and drift.

  13. I just found this thread and really getting into the build. Then when I got to the end I was crushed. I was going to use your build as sort of as a guide for my new 280zx. Any chance you remember what else you had planned for the Datsun. I'm really curious what you had in mind.

  17. The cat and muffler I already got online. Both came up to about $160. I was mainly asking about the price for the 3in pipes and fabbing. I should have been more specific. I will try to get pictures for you guys as they work. I also, recorded the exhaust sound before and will make a video to show the differences.
  18. - Hey everyone. A good friend of mine showed me a silver RB26 240z awhile ago and I instantly fell in love with Datsun. About a week later he showed me an ad on craigslist for a 280zx and I bought it that weekend. I have had this 1982 280zxt since May of 2011. It has had its issues, but it has been solid since I've had it. Now I want more out of it. - I'm now starting to upgrade anything that goes out in the car. I plan to do everything in groups/systems, so I'm not always at the mechanic. If possible I would like to do as much as the work myself. This being my first car, I don't have many tools or experience. Although I did replace the alternator and starter myself already, and I do my own oil/oil filter changes. - My plans for this is to post pictures and updates as they happen. Hopefully you guys can help with what options I have for upgrades, what I might also need, suggestions, and help and guidance. Anyway, here's my baby. The first "system" that is being upgraded is the exhaust system. I have been having trouble passing smog, so I have decided to get a new catalytic converter. To go with the new cat, I will be getting 3in mandrel bend stainless steel pipes, and a new muffler. I would like good airflow and a deep low exhaust sound without getting too loud. I was thinking of getting a simple Magnaflow Cat with a simple Magnaflow Muffler. My only questions are: - Will the cat and muffler even fit? I used the same cat Magnaflow suggested just with a 3in in/out, and I measured the muffler I have, and it's about the same dimensions as this new one. - Will this setup be loud? Because I don't want anything too crazy and loud. - How much should something like this cost? I don't want to get ripped off.

  20. Its been about 6months since the power steering pump/alternator replacement.
  21. I'm just kind of skeptical that its the power steering pump leaking. I had it replaced a few months ago. I guess I'll check the water pump, power steering, and lines. Thanks all.
  22. Is there any chance its motor oil? I can see the liquid on a pan underneath the alternator. Any way to identify what kind of liquid is leaking. I'm almost 100% sure whatever is leaking is damaging my alternator. The alternator is what is bad. I need to fix whatever is leaking and get a new alternator.
  23. I swapped in a new power steering pump. It might be the lines. Is the alternator done for? Or can it be cleaned or repaired?
  24. I have an 1982 280zxt with nearly stock everything. If I can get the car started the fuel, brake, door, and light/key warning lights turn on. The battery dies mid drive. So it's something with the alternator. I have replaced the alternator once already, and its lasted for about 5 months now. But now it seems like something has leaked onto the alternator and damaged it. Anyone have any idea as to what is causing the leak and damaging my alternator?
