  1. well with painting what i would suggest since your probably using a spray can. is when you sand the item down start with a coarse (60grit) to remove the paint. then move to 220, 400, 800 with a wetsand. then spray the flat black on. after doing that use a glossy black. and then a clear coat if you want. i wouldnt use the clear coat if you plan on painting the whole car in the future. but if you just want it to look nice for a little then what i said should work. if you choose you can wetsand inbetween layers to make it look better. like after the flat-black you can wetsand with a very fine 1000grit. then spray another layer or move to the gloss
  2. ohh and is all that stuff in your garage securily put? or is it going to fall on aziza? about the switch make sure to grab the analog speedo cable. and if the rubber peice isnt missing check for a plug in. i know mine on my old crx wasnt plugged in and the lights stayed on. even while the car was off. u should keep the s130 and the s30. just have fun with them
  3. nice find. i will be selling my 81 non turbo in approx 4 days. then purchasing a 240z. which i will need to put in a floor board (the current one is gone(rust)) and put the gastank and dizzy back in it. then hopefully it will run good. do they sell a floor pan that is remanufactured or do i have to have a blast with a welder?
  4. by valve clearences do u mean the valve lash? also the fuel filter is new i cleaned it out and all that to make it run better. also i changed it out with one of the inline clear filters my bro used on his car. it sounds like the car is flooding at those rpms. is there a fuel pressure regulator of some sort that i might need. i currently just have the 4psi fuel pump (purolator) with lines all the way to a T to go to each carb
  5. the only thing i can tell you to watch out for is if your car is equipped with the powersteering gear box thing on the driver side by the o2 sensor. you might have to either make custom headers to wrap around that or swap the entire system for one that does not have the box. also u might want to check if the jags that run kit will fit a 280zx i know on my s130 i wanted to put in an ls2 but i couldnt because the kit wouldnt fit, and at the time i didnt have a welder. so check that about the kit.
  6. well i disconnected the ecu. the car runs and the tach works. but the problem isnt solved. whenever im at wot the car stumbles at 3500-4000 rpm. im thinking not having a gas cap is the problem. do yall have any idea what it could be
  7. alright so i can disconnect my ecu. and it should run correct right.
  8. ya i know that but i am carbed now. im runnin dual su carbs. and the carbs have no tps. so i need to figure out how to wire up the coil and dizzy without using the ecu. or is it already a separate wiring harness. edit: sorry didnt see you were talkin to computo
  9. ya well i am carbed so the tps dosnt matter. maybe since its not hooked up to anything and i still have my ecu hooked up. i took off my ignition control module and tested it and it passed 9 times out of 9. and i cleaned it off and all of thew connections. so does anyone have any idea what it could be. also do u know what i can do about removing the ecu? i went carb and the only thing i really need to run is the dizzy/coil
  10. my guess would be yes. because the z's engine says nissan on it. if im correct then let me know if im wrong then please correct me everyone. So my guess is yes the stereos were made by nissan
  11. well guys my turn to chime in. i have a 1981 280zx. right now it is primer black. i picked mine up for $300 running. the things that were bad on it were the clutch (only 2 springs still intact other 3 were broken in half) the headgasket went on my birthday a month or two after i got the car. The great thing about this car is the guy i got it from was lazy but had money. he purchased the following. Corbeau clubman seat (already installed when i got the car) and a tenzo r steering wheel (also already installed). he had an msa body kit, tokico lowering springs, kyb shocks, centerforce dual friction clutch, cusco strut tower bar, headers and a full exhaust and front slotted and drilled rotors. So when i got the car to my house i started the suspension. the new springs and shocks went on, then the strut tower bar. Then i decided with it lowered the body kit would look nice. put that on. went to the local drag strip knowing the clutch was bad. clutch slipped horribly every gear ran a 16.9. got home parked it and decided to take the tranny off. then the clutch went on. while me and my buddy were taking one of many smoke breaks i decided to look at the headers to see how they went on. i had no clue so i didnt attempt yet. they were in my front yard. sun goes down we run out of light. the headers, a t3/t4 turbo and my full exhaust got stolen out of the gated yard... i dont know why someone would steal 280zx headers because there is only a few in my city and i know most of them. ohh well i got another set from one of the guys i knew. ran with the open headers for awhile. then got bored one day with a welder and decided to make an exhaust. the next day i got a call from the other local 280zx guy (whom i met on here. Roninjiro) he decides since his motor swap he dosnt need any of his exhaust and wantes to give it to me. yay i just all that work for nothing... but hey im happy about it. well then that puts me where i sit today after a few words i sumed up a half of a year. now i am choosing to sell my car because i got on offer of $2000 and i know of a bunch of z's in the area for sale. ohh ya and i also did a 240z dual su setup along with put the front rotors on... i have pictures on here. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=120522&page=5

I personally never made a potato gun but what about an extra spark plug with a car battery. i know i have like 3 batteries and about 1 million plugs in my drive way... so if you build a stationary gun that you can disassemble in a short time you coulbe be really accurate with tons of spark. just use metal with threads that can fit a spark plug and ground that out. then hook up some wires to the battery with a plug wire on the plug. touch the two together and let her rip.
  13. well ive had a similar problem. whenever i am am WOT it cuts at about 4500 rpm. my car is a 1981 280zx with a dual su swap. i had the stumbling problem since i lost the gas cap. im thinking not having a gas cap does not allow pressure to build up and thats where im losing it. ive changed coils with an msd blaster and a accel super stock. both have the same problem. ive doe all kinds of tunning with the carbs still nothing. anyone have an idea of what it could be for me?
  14. i must agree with everyone else. its not that rough for a car that is as old as a z. if the car was a cali car then the rust shouldnt be bad. i dont know if you have looked around for rust spots. when i got my car the frame was solid which came to me as a great surprise. also a few primer spots are not bad because when i got my zx the whole thing was about 12 different shades of primer gray. now it is one solid primer... all z's need is a little t.l.c. and theyre perfect. but welcome to the board and welcome to the z-world.

  16. what i suggest is doing a compression test. im sure one of ur friends has a tester and its simple from their. if ur not reading the correct compression then its a headgasket or piston rings. if it reads good compression check ur distibutor cap and rotor and spark plug wires... also dont do the rag thing just buy a can of starter fluid spray it in their and let it rip.
  17. well guys i took a shot at doing this but i didnt use a roller.. i used the spray cans they sell... i first took my older fender i had laying around and wet sanded it to 1000grit... then i took and put a thin layer of the aluminum silver on it. let that sit and wet sanded with 800 grit.. let it dry put on another coat and then wetsanded with 1000grit. 2 more coats wet sanding in between. on my last coat i put it on thick and let it sit. next i have to wet sand that and ill take pics to show yall how it came out. im really happy with it. thinking about finding a good glossy black and doing that to my car. since i am stuck on gloss black. but it is coming out really well. i might also try a few differnt types of spray paint. any suggestions or comments are welcome. my car is currently flat black and as smooth as a babies bottom.hehe
  18. if it is anything like my zx then there is a bolt inside that holds it on... like lift the rear hatch and lift ur carpet ( if u have any) and then u should see it...

  20. well on the track i have done 84.84... i have an r200 not sure on the gearing, msd blaster, headers,custom intake, centerforce dual friction clutch, tokico lowering springs, kyb shocks, a mitsubishi front mounted fan, no belt drivin fan, full msa body kit and a cusco front strut bar.tire size i will tell u tomorrow when it is light outside... off the track i have hit 130+ according to my 3 friends who were running the same speeds. one car was a 95 galant, another car was a 03 gti, and the other car a sti. i had no front lift float or anything, and i had great control of the car... probably because i have the lowering, and body kit to help out....
  21. well actually i have lower profile tires now, and i redid the black primer. taking all panels down to metal. i will put a new pic up whenever i get a chance... ohh ya and i lost my gas cap also...lol anyone have an extra one they want to sell

  23. ya thats what i was thinking but i was also thinking about turning my 280 into a turboed one while i build the ls2... so idk. my plans were to build a 280z while i drive my zx.

  25. hmmm. do u have any specs on the ls2 mounts? because the ls2 isnt similair to the sbc 350. from what i have heard. and i would do a sbc but the engine im getting has built heads and is an ls2 for only 1g. so ya. i really want to do this swap. i might end up buying a 280z and doing the swap in that....gosh this sucks... 400+hp and only 1g. i need help. specs on mounts would be great. lsX owners help me...lol also any specs about the 81 280zx mounts would be great
