  1. I hear you, its actually built at 12:1 compression. I am running 14psi boost on it right now.
  2. That makes a lot more sense. So that seems like it will only work well on some head chamber designs.
  3. I think it is a mute point for me because I have hemi shaped heads.
  4. I would be more interested in what spark timing gives detonation before and after the grooves are added. Everything else held the same how much more timing can you run with the grooves than without? I was raked over the coals for runner higher compression which should also lead to cooler exhaust temps because cooler exhaust temps means less energy to spool the turbo.
  5. Maybe it is not in MSII code, I use msns_extra code for MSI. It is something like vacboogauge
  6. I was able to verify the new spark and coil wiring works. The trigger return also works. I have made the updates to the document in post #1 and attached the new msq files. Enjoy!
  7. Yeah, if you provide a VSS input then there are already gauges in megatune for mpg. Sometime look through the megatune .ini file and see what all the different gauges are that you can put in megatune. The vacuum/boost gauge is nice.
  8. No, it is too small and does not move enough air. I have had good luck with air valves from an rx7 that are as big as the brake booster line. Also, I am verifying the correct spark setup and trigger return tomorrow morning to remove the last quirks from my write up. I will update after the tests.
  9. You should be set, the v3.57 is just the surface mount component version of the v3 board. Since you have the BIP373 ignition output tranisistor you do not need the HEI module. Also, you can run PWM for your low impedance injectors on v3 and v3.57 boards, you do not need the flyback board like v2.2. You are all set, good deal.
  10. The following links can be found through http://www.msefi.com Go to the megamanual link: http://www.megamanual.com/mtabcon.htm Go here for v2.2 board assembly instructions: http://www.megamanual.com/v22manual/mass.htm#guide Or here for v3 board assembly instructions. http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/V3assemble.htm Just look around at the megamanual links, there is a ton of info. If you follow some of the links you will find pictures of v2.2 boards and v3 boards to help you ID what you have. If you ordered from diyautotune then your receipt or order form should show you what was ordered v2.2 or v3. I think it is a really good idea for anyone that orders a pre-built board to go through the assembly instructions anyway. Then you'll know what options are available for your board and where all the components are located. It will take some time to learn a lot of this, just stick with it.
  11. You don't use the ignitor on the side of the coil. The HEI module replaces its function. You are correct. If you have a v3 megasquirt mainboard then you do not need the HEI module if your ignition tranistor is stuffed. You can use the ignition transistor on the mainboard to fire the coil. Check out your board version and stuffing options.
  12. It will be fun, just take your time. Read a lot and ask lots of questions. Start out simple like you say with the HEI module and Z31 coil. Move up later when you understand more. Good Luck
  13. I've worked a few cars and I have never seen anything to convince me to run an MSD box. Do they gain you anything? I don't know. If it was me I would spend the money on an EDIS trigger wheel and run LS1 coils wasted spark. I think that would be an improvement over the distributor because it will provide a more consistent spark. I think all you need is the EDIS trigger wheel, VR pickup and LS1 coils. I would not use the EDIS module, just decode the trigger wheel signal directly with megasquirt and mod the three LED circuits to fire the LS1 coils. This seems like the best bang for the buck ignition system for an L engine to me.
  14. One option is to use the HEI module to fire the Z31 coil.
  15. Wow, time flies. My turbo is bad on this car so I haven't got to tuning and using the knock sense module. I have a feeling it is not going to work well on this 5.3 engine because it has the notorious lifter knock. I think that is going to set off phantom knock. One of these days I will find out. Maybe others have new input on the knock sense module.
  16. Are you talking about the sensor in the oil pan or the sender behind the intake manifold? I did not connect the sensor on the oil pan for my rx7.
  17. Its not an L engine. It is a 4G63 in my Talon. I increased displacement and compression at the same time so I don't know how much power came from each one. I just know the car has more torque down low than it did before. No dyno yet. Hopefully I can get my car and my friends talon on the dyno and compare. He has the same setup I use to have.
  18. I am in the process of updating this thread because I have received a bunch of emails lately about megasquirt on the LS1. I moved the installation write up to the top post and also put the msq files in the top post. I will be updating for v3.0 board mods shortly. I also stuck this thread because I had more than one copy and I am just linking everyone here now.
  19. Good find, I'll give it a bump for the new week.
  20. I'm not running any boost, my turbo is bad. That was the AFR targets I entered to begin tuning, but never got to tuning yet because the turbo took a dump. What you don't like 11.0 everywhere? ha ha. That is why I never posted msq files before because they are in such a state of no tuning that somebody that doesn't know better is going to have problems.
  21. Ha ha, it worked today. Let me know if you can download them and view them. Also, I will be making some updates to the LS1 writeup soon. I am doing a second setup and I will refine the instructions and give some more details about the board mods I did and wiring harness color codes. This second setup is a v3.0 board so I will be able to provide instructions for both v2.2 and v3.0 mods. msqfiles.zip
  22. That is good advice Mike. With my 3 projects, 2 of them I drive every week. I could not have 3 projects or even 2 on jack stands for months.
  23. What has worked well for me is to have 3 cars. All different, one daily driver, one drag car, one street rod. I then work on the one that I have a passion for at the time, and as time goes on I move back and forth between the 3. I have invested well under 30K in all three cars so it isn't like I have a ton of money and can afford three projects. I view it as one project, just a different car as my liking takes it each couple months.
  24. OK, I'll try the attachement feature here. This zip files has two msq files, both work with HiRes10e code. That is what I run on all my cars right now. One msq is for gas, the other for e85. My car has 150lb injectors so you will need to change virtually all of the settings to make this files work. Warmups, accell, ASE, cranking PW, required fuel, etc. But at least it will give people a starting point. EDIT: I can't get the zip file to attach, the manager says upload failed every time.
