Ohhh boy!! This can't be good. Search Subaru and or AWD.Your attemps may lead you to the tool shed, however there is plenty of threads with discussion over this. General consensus: try another swap lol,i know as i was also very interested at one point.
-
Now you need a block heater-heater,you cant just go around turning on the block heater until it has been brought up to operating temp!
-
Just think,if everyone had agreed with your idea you probably wouldn't have tried it - now it looks like you may have something. Good work!
-
That part is easy, its all the same as any ej,meaning i can use WRX stuff Edit* Unfortunately i am having seconds thoughts on this lol.I have been thinking on this a while and the problem im seeing now is steering linkage .It seems that for this to work i would have to run a steering shaft over the top of the motor could be done - just another one of those not exactly bolt on problems.I prefer to do things the hard way and i like to pioneer stuff but the car has been idle for a long time and i would like something not too ridiculous as i still have a lot of other crap to do as well. All things will be weighed first to see if its worth starting.
-
I was wondering that myself! Why would it be proprietary to the th400? i dont understand that.
-
Damn!! nice link,i may have to call them and get a ball park on some of my ideas.
-
Yes i will have huge sticky tires. In case you didnt notice i am the same guy who widened his car by 3" per side Im pretty sure the rx7 thing is where im going to start my research,at this point i have very little faith in the sube trans holding up after conversion. Most people who do this do it to drift and tire spinning isn't too hard on a tranny. That and i have a friend with an older souped up wrx and he has managed to noodle the input shaft on the same trans i would be using with only 265 hp - now picture two extra cylinders, sticky tires, turbos, and the fact that all torque has to escape via the rear rather than to all 4 in normal form:rolleyes:
-
Aren't 944's front engine rear transaxle?? I guess actually that would be pretty sweet, however i am looking at enough work already.
-
Sure. But it seems to me that there must be something about the rx7 that makes it fairly easy. Now that i have seen multiple posts regarding this being done i am definitely going to put my attention there. Those transmissions aren't that hard to find and there is no doubt that they are more than strong enough. What i need to find out i whether it would be easier to modify the rx7 bell housing to fit the eg block or use the subaru bell housing and modify it to fit the rx7 trans? Oh,and good finds there Firm!!!
-
Yup that is true with the subaru transmissions as well.My only concern as posted above is the possibility that a turboed eg33 may be too much for the trans without improvement. The other fun thing is the fact that you can also do the opposite and voila, you have a mid engine and trans axle
-
I have no plan to use the svx trans. But yes the ej transmissions do fit up.This is where im thinking i may go with it.Take a wrx 5 speed which bolts up and weld the center diff which is commonly done to make RWD subarus. The only problem is how much power can they hold like this?? not sure, but judging by some of the outrageous wrx's out there - probably quite a bit.Im thinking at worst i may have to get some beefcake straight cut gears which are expensive or maybe see about getting the stock ej trans gears cryo treated, that should be more than enough either way...i hope Also i have read a single solitary comment somewhere about 3rd gen rx7 transmissions being close enough that you can modify one to fit, this would be ideal and i need to find out if its true.

Circuit City messes up civic stereo installation - $12k in damage!

Doesnt the difficulty in getting retribution from the company say enough it itself about the companies upper ranks. I have always looked at things in life this way: Whether you problem has to do with a spark plug or people at a retail location - your wisest solution is to start at the the ROOT of the problem. In this mindset yes i have more than enough confidence in my comment. However blindfolds seem much more convenient. Nope i dont. However if complaints dont go that far i do know who is responsible for setting the policies in place for tham to not make it that far,the upper echelon that doesn't want to hear about it! -

Very true. However i would prefer that peolpe look at the top of the ladder and know that those who really make the companies decisions are corrupt "aholes" who dont actually care about customers unless one of their many unsatisfied makes a stink which could potentially hurt the bottom line, even then i really have to wonder. In my situation i have only once talked to a rep that appeared to be a little higher up in the chain, when talking to him i told him that my expirience was so bad that i was planning on starting a website called "www.circuitcitysucks.com" after a few seconds he said "i'm sorry sir,is that your query".It seems to me that any large company should have some sort of policy for processing calls made by customers who are that pissed off about something.Funny thing is i'm really not joking about it lol. -

I personally am all about blaming Circuit City.Whether or not the problem is due to the buisness itself they should still burn for it.If any of you want to see the epitome of bad customer service-you will find out when something goes wrong with an order you make through these people. It has been two months since i ordered an item of $60 value and i still dont have it.Not only that but out of 18 calls i still have not talked to anybody outside of Bombay India and everytime i call they know as much about my situation as when i first called. Not only this but they have lied to me countless time so far.Just venting here but i could go on,if your interested - go to Youtube and look up "Circuit City sucks" nough said. -
Where did you find this? might i ask the tranny issue is the only one i am worried too much about at the moment.I already know that the typical subie awd trans with the front disabled wont hold up for long.
-
I suppose.Im really not against the principle, just wondering about whether or not it will really end up worth it in the end.Perhaps some sort of solar powered rig??
-
Whats the point? thats almost a liter smaller at best.
-
I am not going with all wheel drive at all,it will be rwd strictly! Turboing is easy,as i said in my first post the pistons are swappable with those in the ej22 turbo (which means lower compression ratio). Please dont let this turn into another AWD thread! My thoughts exactly!!

Smilies sometimes change after posting? not always WYSIWYG?

Just dont use smilies and use your words instead,or get clever. -
Ok guys,i know that there is already a thread pertaining to subaru engine swaps (i even took place in the discussion) but that thread got out of hand,so i'm starting a more specific thread here and now.I really dont want to read more of the same comments so please if you want to comment read this one first and you will know what not to post. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=128539&highlight=subaru All right so i just had a customer come in the shop with an svx for me to repair,he also brought another known running engine as well since he thinks that his engine is crap. Now either I'm going to end up with a running motor or one that needs to be rebuilt, not sure yet but i have a free EG33 any way around.I've been toying with the idea for quite some time and i think i want to do it,yes i realize the engine is too wide for the s30 bay but i have also been planning to tubularize my front end.If i do this i might as well make to fit the engine of my choice, whether agreed upon by the masses or not i think this is the motor.(yes this is an aircraft example) (photo compliments of SDS EFI) Not only has this motor never been put in a z (i think i can say that safely) but these motors are absolute marvels of engineering and construction, they sound excellent, run forever, are fairly abundant, not too heavy, and are capable of lots of power8-). Also interesting and handy is the fact that these motors are based on the more common ej engine series 1.8, 2.0, 2.2, 2.5,therefor since it is basically a 2.2 with 2 additional cylinders - any 2.2 turbo parts IE pistons, connecting rods can be used in the block to make it turbo-able. My only concern at this point (aside from the fabrication ahead of me) is clutch and transmission options,i realize anything can be done but i need to do some searching and see if anyone knows something remotely easy in this department. My z is at this point already a complete abomination by any purist point of veiw so i think that this project fits it just right.Oh, and yes i am definitely leaning towards the tubo side of things here. For anyone who is a stranger to this motor here are the basic specs: 3.3 lt flat six. CR 10.1 : 1 Four cam (gear matched). 230 hp - 228 ft lbs The svx which the engine came in weighed 3600 pounds and did 15 sec 1/4's@ over 90 mph,0-60 in 7ish seconds - not too shabby, and this is in N/A form. Thoughts? recommendations that aren't horrible?
-
Pretty much. Another thing to consider is the fact that (lets say the idea does allow 120+degrees) upon leaving a non running engine at high temp for prolonged periods of time must have an effect on making all the residual oil in the engine drain away pretty effectively.I'm not sure it would be a huge deal but it seems that there would be no benefit for engine longevity as in my eyes the engine would be starting with in an even drier condition than normal.

I think my "ahem" Z's rear should look like this!
G.I.jonas replied to G.I.jonas's topic in Body Kits & Paint
I'm digging this bigtime!! This thread really makes me want to get the z out of storage and make use of these ideas! -
Soo why does the rear of the car appear to be covered in mud??
