  1. I do like marks car but like you are saying i think it is really the product of alot of money and not much ingenuity.$#% 12,000 i could do that in my sleep in my garage for like $600.Not only could but have been planning to for a long time.Ive worked in body shops and i know custom work is expensive but 12k is absolutely rediculous for sure, ask someone else lol.As far as his engine,i thought he had an rb,not sure though.
  2. Sounds like solid math to me,good thing the engine is like 9 feet shorter than stock and fits behind the strut towers, not to mention is AWESOME!
  3. The motor is as far down as it can go without notching rails because of the tubos, but really the motor sits quite right, the bottom of the oil pan and transmission sit perfectly flush with the bottom of the car.
  4. Hey thanks for the tecnical help,i can always use it.And to answer your question, the turbos are insalled now and were while pics were taken, you just cant see them in any of my angles. As far as turbo cleasrance i could see room for slightly larger ones without frame rail notching(which i am perfectly capable of but am wanting to avoid).I know my outlook will change when the car is done but right now my feelings are that im doing this particular conversion for the fact that this engine is already a monster in stock form, plus it will be in a really light car.Im sure this engined tuned to what its capable with stock turbos will keep me happy for some time. Once im finished with the exhaust i think next step is to start rewiring the car....yay.By the way would anyone want to get a free pair of adjustable lower control arms?I am making some for my car and have decided to make more for the purpose of selling online, however my car is not running yet so i cant test them.Anybody with a flashy car(so i can get some good pics too) is welcome to this offer provided that you can convince me you wont just take them and run.I need someone to put them to the test and simply report back to me with any problems or suggestions. Oh yea and the steering doesnt fit in stock position,it wont be hard to fix but i havnt done that yet.
  5. you realize there is a lot of work involved, but sure why not.You have to change over to having the pedal assembly for the clutch as well as putting in the master cylinder for the clutch slave, not to mention that the ecu is programmed differently for automatics and then you have to deal with changing the interior trim to fit stick shift instead of auto selector.Probably like 15 other things i cant think of cuz its like 4 in the morning lol,I would say that unless you are totally in love with you car you should sell your car and use the money you would use to convert the car to buy another one.Or you could always learn to like autos, which i cant blame you if you cant(autos=gay) but anyway good luck, thats my 2 cents or whatever
  6. Hey drew thats no problem,i really didnt take it that hard.I am someone who is confident enough in his own abilities that i dont really pay much attention to alot of criticism from some people, however i do pay attention when someone steps up to apologize for impulse typing.Thanx again and like i said no worries we are all in this sh$# together P.S. your project looks pretty sweet by the way.although you might want to sweep the floor lmao.
  7. Ok im retarded, apparently these links are not working,at least not for me i'll try to fix this mess. All right well these links are only working for me if i right click and open as new window,y i have no idea(like i said suck with these things sometimes). So if they dont work for you then try that,or someone nerdy could tell me what im missing.
  8. So i posted last night about my vg30dett conversion and the fact that im interested in making kits for people to do the same,Within hours people were asking for pics so i tried to put pics on and realized they were too big.So after screwing around for an hour or so(damnit i suck with computers) i got my pics hosted on photobucket.com or some crap like that. Some of my pics show engine mounts during construction others show the flat bar i welded onto the rails for a little extra strength and meat to weld the new mounts to,the rest are just showing how the engine fits overall as well as one with the hood on the car(showing plenty of room). These pics display the point at which i am at now, i will continue updating as i go along and come up against new things i need to do,hope you enjoy and please ask any q's or make any suggestions. ________________________________________________________________
  9. sorry guys,no the car in avatar is not mine, and thank you v8260 for pointing out why it is there. My ride happens to be completely stripped at the moment so not so good for showing off
  10. oh and yeah turbos clear just fine, the driver side wastegate actuator is probably 12 mm away but thats the worst of it.
  11. Sure i'll get some pics on,oh wait i'm new here can i do that yet?,any way i'll do so if i can.But i guess as far as people copying i think the pics will provide more than enough info(but i'm not a dick so whatever). However i think a lot of people would like to do the swap but are not avid welders, even though they would have to have someone weld in my mounts or do it themselves.Like i said i have the engine in and have the trans mount done as well as making clearance for the starter.I think sthe next step is going to be fabing a passenger side downpipe as the stock dump is angled in a bad way for fitment in a z....oh man i can go on for hours, good to see people already replied?? that was quick, any way i'll be back.
  12. Hey i just joined the site and have been reading up on some crazy #$%^ some of you guys are up to.I own a small speed shop in maine and am totaly all about z cars.I currently have a vg30dett installed into my 78 280z and im trying to find out just how much interest there is in this conversion, mainly because i am considering producing a kit for people who want to do the same.I am an excellent welder and i know my math,i have not finished the project by any means but the engine is in and it looks great,i really must say that the fitment is no where near as tricky as some say,in fact it fits far better than the engine does in the car it came from lol.If anyone is interested let me know, also i would like to hear from anyone doing this or that has done it.
