Digging through my parts stash I found an intake/exhaust gasket unused. The odd part is that it has little metal borders at the openings of the intake and exhaust ports. Seems like I read a post about how this was an advantage, but I cant find that post. Anyone know anything about this gasket?

82 ZX Barely runs when cold (If Throttle is applied)
Heroez replied to Connor280ZX's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
That is likely why the FSM and says not to rev the motor unnecessarily untill it reaches operating temp. -
Cripes, I have to face this again on monday. The brilliant mind that wrote the repair order missed the mark by 30 hrs. Lets see, the last one we did was 80 hrs and we made a profit... This job is the same but has 3 more panels... twice the work, so we add 5 hours? WTF? Idiots! Im flat rate, what do I do when Im handed a job I KNOW Im going to lose on?
-
Thanks. Looks like you did a good job. Maybe this weekend I can get some more done on mine. I still have to make the ends for the harness in the engine bay, and decide where to put the ECU.

That is great news Matt! I figured you would have been done by now, but I now see how the delays can really stack up. Are you using the stock distributor and stock CAS to trigger MS? Do you have a photo of the board to share? I would like to see what others have done. Funny that I have a timing light because I cant see the marks when I try. I dont know if its my eyes, or if I need a major refresh on the marking. Maybe white out will work. Lol.
-
I dont have the DIY trigger wheel yet. I was going to order it along with some other things I need like IAT sensor, and whatever else. I have to make a list. Looks like the only mods left is whats on the page for the DIY trigger wheel. I will have to go through some baggies and see if there is a 1k resistor in there, for that wire.
-
Thats what I need right now, simple. Its a lot to take in all at once for me. I still have to learn the tuning software and propper values for the tables, which seems like an even bigger mountain to climb. Luckily a member here sent me their tune file which is close to what I need. Some changes here and there is all that is needed. I wouldnt even attempt this if it wasnt for the forums and help from you guys. Its cool how strong we are, and what we can do, when we pull together as a team.

Ah, it makes sense now. Ive learned some things. Thank you. Any other advice or comments?

I was going to use the stock 83 turbo distributor and the DIY trigger wheel for now and later go to a crank trigger and use a ford 6x coil pack to delete the distributor and its moving parts. Thanks for your help. Im going to follow the instructions in the link for the l28et. Did you use that guide? I dont see any reason to trigger MS off the negative side of the coil and not control timing... Why would anyone do that?
-
If Im not controlling timing, then Im not going to retard under boost, or advance? I would be locked at whatever initial timing the distributor was set to? I guess what I need to find out is- What are the pros and cons of controlling or not controlling timing. I assume controlling timing is better. Can you help clarify this?
-
Hmm. According to the link for the l28 turbo instruction, mine is different. I still have c12 and c30 in place as you see in picture 1, and I hadnt done the rest of that stuff. Man, what did I do... Now Im more confused. Why did the general assembly instructions leave that out? Ok, C12 and C30 are at the end of instructions 50.a. As if Im going to 'use the negative side of the coil to trigger megasquirt, (ie you are not using ignition timing control') Is this where I went wrong? I thought ignition timing control is good, an advantage, right?
-
(Sorry about the blurry here.) Thanks for the links. Ok, got it. It was right in front of my face. Somehow I was confusing JS10 with IGN. I was like, why am I making a jumper from in and out... to IGN? Lol!
-
Im going to use the Hall sensor, IAC, and have bip373 to drive a coil. Its probably simple but after days of looking at it, I have gotten confused.
-
OK, I am following along with the assembly instructions for MS2 v3.0 and it makes sense untill after step 66 where you jumper JS10. Does this look right?
-
Thanks for sharing that. It covers things I have to deal with as a bodyman. Its nice to know that others see it too. I could add a little to the list. Like the actual repair order time being shaved down and the tech gets this shaved copy while the boss stuffs his pockets.

Thanks, I may have to drop by for a quick tutorial on software lol! -

I tried the map sharing thread. The ones I saw close to stock were just links to nothing files. 0kb files. :@ Im kinda learning more. I saw Mobythevan had some screen captures in .jpg format. I will look for cygnus or whoever as I continue to search. -
Try 15 degrees. What is wideband saying?

How is the tune now? Im trying to locate a tune for the stock configuration myself. -
I like velocity stacks with the sock filters too. Very nice. The good things are worth waiting for in my experience. I agree to disagree in practice, yet we agree in the fundamental way. Hate it when that happens! Lol.

I take it you never got the chance to see a stock zxt engine bay. I have a couple photos on another site. Maybe I find them later. If you hadnt yet, look at the ECCS component diagram, and read what each part does. Then try the wiring diagram. Find part x that plugs in by wires, and next to it is the wire colors. You have access to answers, and I think that is why more responses have not been seen. Anyhow, the 3 terminal connector that is near the injector/AFM could be TPS if you have only 2 wires in it. Two wires to CHTS, by knock sensor. Match things up. Keep lables being written and attached. Eventually it will start to make sense. When you get stuck come back.

Ive got a mn47 too in my head collection, and did some reading back when. I think you are correct that the mn47 would be better because of the design. Be sure to use pistons that match the heads chamber shape to take advantage!

Leon, well maybe I have a communication problem. I was in big brother mode I guess. If I saw that car with you guys around, with that set up, yeah, I likely would say something like- 'you know, those 40s are too small for that engine.' He would get that quite a bit actually. Dont you think? After his explanation I would probably go look at a different Z car, and stand around with some different guys.

The Weber bog. Small accelerator pumps. Overcome the track design to fit street driving. That is the other fun bit.
