No Leon, you are. A lot of people including me look up to you and others here. Lets say I had a 3.0 turbo motor, MS2, ported head, cam, intercooler, 3 inch exhaust, OK? I had this t25 turbo charger laying around. So I start to install it. I would hope you or someone would say- Dude, that turbo is too small for the motor! What are you thinking? Before I got too involved in building in retarded performance. I like Tbones drive and passion, we all do. He is a good guy. Dont we owe him the truth? Even if its hard to listen to? I think he is in reach of something greater. That is my take on the thread. That is all, just saying. I may be a monster, but Im an honest one. Now let us all get back on topic aye?

If he put as much time and effort into making some cash as he is the carbs, He would have the ITBs or whatever. It just seems like a waste of time, and materials to dedicate his resources to something subpar. Im not saying build a rocket. Im saying its not a well thought out plan. Planning is fundamental. Think about it. He is choking down a 3.1 stroker, limiting its effective power. Why? Because some old carbs sized for a 2.2-2.4 engine were laying around? That is a bad plan! Build a 3.1 stroker and not take advantage of it. Why bother. Who here would opt to put 40mm DCOEs choked to 33 on a 3.1 stroker? Not me. I would try and find a sucker that doesnt know 40s are too small, and sell them for whatever I could get. Spend my time making/saving money instead to purchase something optimal and/or in balance with the motor work.
-
Because he had them laying around. Yeah, but no. Doesnt change it for me.
-
I agree that 40s choked down to 33mm on a 3.1 motor is way too small, a rookie mistake, turning now into an epic mistake. Sad/Funny to witness.

Looking for a Broken or Damaged aftermarket center taillight for the 280zx. Doesnt matter what type, early, late.

Hi. 74 260z with original 4 speed transmission. Newish Clutch, MC, Slave, with around 7,000 miles on them. This weekend I finally got to installed some side oil seals on the differential because I saw a leak. Hadnt drove it for a couple months because of the leak. After replacing the seals I went for a test drive but immediately felt something was wrong. The clutch pedal didnt do anything untill it was almost on the floor. Springs back fine. Usually it had more action, and I could modulate it easy. Feels like I have a 1/2 inch of clutch action above the floor (on/off). So, checked the MC. Full, no leaks all the way down to the slave cylinder. At the slave cylinder, I can almost put my finger between the push rod and clutch release arm divet. Checked pedal adjustment. Nuts tight. I only have 1/4 inch more adjustment at the pedal to use. Dust cover missing, the release arm looks straight and spring attached. Any advice or experience with this?

Im in GA, I have a couple.

OK. I have been looking at Stainless steel valves, and I may go with that. Researching cams too. This direction is pushing me towards replacing the stock pistons with something nicer. It adds up quick.

I called and got the pricing for a street style port. You are right, the price is good. I notice you said port only. So me being an engine novice, would you say it would be better for me to assemble it or let them assemble it (ready to bolt on) for the additional 350? What about valves or something opportunistic at the time?
-
You know what I see? A bunch of people with fake bumpers and cheap mentality. You want the look of chrome... but not the price or effort involved. Not going to happen folks. You are stuck with the grade B or even grade C look by your own doing. What kind of person cheaps out on the final touches like that? The cars jewelry. I will tell ya. The same people spray painting stainless steel. People with no taste. Fiberglass bumpers, pfffft. Dont worry about justifying your purchase in a response, I wont be reading. If it makes you feel better, just imagine that you really educated me on the finer points of your Fisher Price bumpers.

ok. Too rich for me. I cant be like you guys unless I do it myself. My path is clear now. Turbo upgrade and exhaust. MS2 to follow. Meanwhile, study head porting. Thanks guys. You are not only helpful, but an inspiration.

Thanks for the replies thus far. Im learnimg good stuff. [Tony, Jamal (borini) bought a 510.]

Thanks Skirkland, Im at a stand still right now. Dont know what to buy. I thought a custom downpipe would let me get away from a 90° bend. 2 45s with a little extra work to get the correct bend was what I read up on a while back. Oh, if I farm out the head porting, what kind of questions should I ask to make sure they dont wreck the head?

I have MS2 ecu and harness but hadnt installed it. Possibly later, gotta make time. Then I have to learn to tune it. I dont even have a zxt base map yet to get it up and running. Took me a long time to fix what was the matter with it so it could be driven. Its been 5 months driving the stock configuration car, now the turbo makes a chirping sound. I thought you meant like a gt35 or bigger. I also have a IAC a motorized one from a bmw or volvo. Mustang 6x coilpack, fpr, Big NPR IC. Not sure if I will use that NPR beast. Its huge! Bout the size of the radiator. No trigger wheel, so I may not use the coilpack at first. I was hoping to upgrade it gradually, but old chirpy the turbo ruined my plans. So it seems my destiny is to start at the turbocharger and exhaust. What do you think?

sorry, double post.

OK, why a bigger turbo? It is a street car, something I drive often. I like the area the stock T30B starts working. 500 rpm sooner would be fun, and the ball bearing type would do that. My wife is begging me to spend money and I keep delaying. Dont factor in paint, its free for me. Set me up for success guys. Lay it on me.
-
Ive never done that before. Dont really know what Im doing. I would likely end up spending hours on something that hangs too low or is a half inch off from hooking up properly. I just dont have the confidence. I will be thinking about it though. I will go look at a couple 45s and pipe in 3 inch diameter. Maybe I can talk myself into it.
-
T5 sucks anyway. The only good shifter for it is a mustang shifter. I cant wait for clutch replacement or excuse to swap it out and upgrade to a NA 5 speed.
-
My biggest concern is the downpipe. Trying to find someone willing and *able to make one is difficult here. Prefabricated ones dont exist. Is it harmful to drive the car with no exhaust coming off the turbo? I imagine it would be, the heat blowing out near the brake booster. I may have to drive 60 miles to a performance shop I trust, or get it towed.
-
Thanks for that, its good to know what you guys would do. It also tells me I have a lot to learn. I have a spare turbo motor so I may try my hand at porting that ones p90 and look into cams. Im sure I can find a how-to on head porting. This 200k motor will have to come out eventually. I log a lot of miles and nothing lasts forever. Im going to try searching again tonight. I dont want to go in blind. Surely someone wrote about a gt30 swap somewhere.

I picked up these turbo parts cheap, and will pass that saving onto you when you get that far. I was thinking a turbo exhaust manifold, turbo, boost controller, ecu, wiring harness, AFM, TB, J Pipe, afm to turbo Pipe... And you would be ready to rock. What kind of clearance do you have where the turbo goes?
-
You lose the heater box because you have to enlarge the area at the firewall to fit the l28 in a 510. SR fits better. I knew the maxima oil pan/sump was different. So what direction are we going here?
-
I didnt do the kid thing, dodged that bullet, so I know no compromise. My cars are my kids in a way. You have an easy option. You have the space and mounts for L family motors. Quick and easy is to drop in a l28et. Be at your goal, and not much down time. I may be able to help, I have ECUs wiring harness etc. To build the l24e NA to something similar would take a lot more time and money. To put a turbo on the l24e/N47 and use aftermarket engine management wouldnt be that bad either for cost if you use MS. I agree with the majority at heart. I dont want you to think Im rolling in cars and money. Im not. Ive had to build what I was interested in just to know. A few good ones and a few under construction. Lots of possibilities, like you. Sometimes its like 'choose your adventure' moment. Maybe find the treasure. Maybe fall through a crag. The treasure is seen with interchange knowledge somewhat.
-
I like Datsun too, I have 6 of them. If it quacks like a duck you know. Basicly you want a stock l28e turbo power, suspension parts. Tack on bits like distributor, fuel pump, ECU, harness, etc. All I was saying was skip all the work and be driving in something you like. The goon is slow and ugly. If I had it, it would stay that way. True to itself. To be enjoyed as is. You may want to study the interchange threads. I will be looking at some 200sx S12s this weekend. I could photo or take a measuring tape

I have heard of comparisons between the qualities, but thanks for making sure. Why upgrade? I guess it seems the right time. 200k seems to be the general replace/rebuild time. Mine is on its way out. I cant prove it. Just from driving it, I feel like I can tell. small chirping sound. Anyhow, it seems like general maintenance. To update the turbo at the same time seemed logical. Why not rebuild? I thought about it. I would have to get it balanced after the kit, so I may as well let them handle that too. No not looking for more power so much. The car will stay stock untill painted. Just a daily driver. I have MS2 ready to wire in, IC, and bits. That comes later. Even then I would be keeping it 220-240 or so hp. Maybe later upgrade the chasis suspension and brakes for more. Either turbo would work really. A new tech gt30 seemed like a viable choice. Ball bearing to bring it on a bit faster. More efficent. If it takes a great ordeal to do the gt30 then no. If its a spacer, custom downpipe, exhaust, Im cool with that. I need new exhaust anyway. I have money for it. What would you do in my place?
