  2. I am currently dailying a 76' 280z. It needs some work. Floor pans, oddly, are in pretty great condition compared to some of the horror stories I've seen around these parts. Not to say there isn't hidden gold rust nuggets. Heater works, but not to the proper vents. No glove box door. Well I should say, there is a door, but the hinge is broken so it doesn't stay connected. A lot of the wiring has been jerry rigged for some other purpose. Other than that I drive it every day, to and back from school, and just about everywhere else. So far it has been a few problems, but I've gotten the major ones sorted away. I feel like I'll being hanging onto her for a long time to come.

  5. Sorry to bring back a two year old thread but this topic really concerns me. I just bought brand new locks for my car, and I want to invest in a solid alarm system, but I may not need to if I take out the rotor every night? Doesn't seem like a practical thing to do in my college parking lot. Anyway, has there been any progress made in the way of ******* proofing your car in the past two years?

  7. HAHHAHA I love your illustrations. Gotta love Haynes <3 So I'm still working at it... I'll report back in a little bit... So now I need to fix the locking mechanism for the drivers side door. Get a grommet/gasket for the hatch, and a metal retainer clip for the hatch lock. IF ANYBODY HAS THOSE THINGS I'LL GIVE YOU $$
  8. Thank you for the heads up brother. I am a more than capable competent person and am reading up on how perform your suggestions without err. Obviously I haven't used the door much. I've only owned the car for a week, and only have been driving the car for 3 of those 7 days. I am still in the process of learning her odd quirks, but am fixing them as well. I am thinking of starting a thread dedicated to her on this forum as a means of logging my work. On a happy, but completely unrelated sidenote. We did 120 on the highway today. She had a lot more in her, and I wasn't even using 5th gear.
  9. I hate to revive an old thread, but this is the only one regarding the subject using the search function. I figured it might be better to bring an old one back from the dead than to start an entirely new one dedicated to the same subject? Double wishbone rear suspension impossible, correct?

  11. I really appreciate you guys taking the time to respond and not poop all over me. I frequent the internet more than most of you could ever believe (Comp Sci major.) I know some people can get vicious when it comes to "RTFM" or (Reading The ******* Manual.) I just put a 1000 dollar down payment on my 1976 280z. I really value everybodys' suggestions, especially that Hartley engine. I have been obsessing over this car non stop for the past several weeks. There are some engines I hadn't ever heard of until they were mentioned just now. This place is a mecca for me. I am sure you people may think of me as a weekend warrior, as I am sure many lurkers of this forums are, but I am balls to the ******* wall about this car. Teaching myself to weld, learning the ins and outs of engines, the whole 9 yards. As for what I intend to do with my car, I want to race it naturally, or I wouldn't have brought this topic up. Of course, I want to make it a daily driver first. I'll be creating a new thread dedicated to her as soon as she is in my possession. Regarding what type of performance I would like is excellent handling, seconded by launch/acceleration, and third-ed by top speed.
  12. Please do not shred me. If anything I'll never ask a question again if you can tell me some good books/manuals to read that give me a comprehensive understanding of the Fairlady Z. Where it has been, where it is going, and how far you can take it. I would buy that book and eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
  13. My first and foremost concern after I buy this car is making a true mid-engine. Between the SR, VQ, LS3 and there is one other I am forgetting that is a cheap swap. What would allow me to get the closest to a 50-50 balance? I have heard of RB25 + AWD, and RB26 + AWD, but would an AWD with any of the engined mentioned above be possible?
