  1. A terrific role model' date=' too.

    [/quote']

Well I know chit happens and fame is probably a hard thing for anyone to deal with, but he would be a more positive role model had he stayed with the mother of his twins.

Makes me wish he would keep coming back until someone actually beats him.

  2. If you drop $6k + shipping + Tax on a new LS1 with computer and harness from Scoggin-Dickey

    http://www.sdpc2000.com/catalog/120/products/466/LS1-Engine-Kit-w-Computer-GM-Performance-Parts-Crate-Engine-Assembly.htm

then add in everything else you will need to make it run (alternator, MAF meter, starter, motor mounts, transmission, clutch, new flywheel, shipping, maybe AC and PS, etc. etc. etc.).

sort of makes $8800 to get 80 more HP and a 4 inch bore look like a bargain.

He got a brand new engine with no worry about how the PO drove or maintained it.

  3. Name one time when world policy is changed due to a terrorist bomb incident.

The Madrid bombing was generally credited with swinging the election resulting in Spain removing their troops from Iraq.

Sorry. There are pussies all over the world. See the link I posted earlier.

  4. If you are going to remove paint then you will need the higher pressure like JT says. If you want to clean your house and car, but still want them to have paint on them when you are done, then you don't want 3000+ PSI.

A small, electric 1600 PSI version is fine for cleaning stuff around the house. Be careful with the big ones. I have watched more neighbors ruin things with an oversized pressure washer.

  5. Another top 10 list for you

...the Miata offers just enough room for a romantic weekend getaway for two...

Damn. Meets my criteria of a sports car.

You're right, Pop hasn't ever driven one. Pop also doesn't personally know any men who actually own one. I know a lot of women owners, but the only men I see who own them also smoke pipes and wear sports jackets with patches on the elbows. Not a judgment. Just an observation.

As far as it being a chick's car, Pop also read Mazda's own marketing information when the car first came out. Unlike GM, Mazda read and understood the Fiero marketing results which showed a large number of women were attracted to the car. I have read commentaries that claimed the Fiero died because GM never offered power steering for it. Something that appealed heavily to it's large female clientele. The Miata came out around that time and capitalized on the Fiero info.

The original ones were pretty anemic in the performance sense. They never did well in any of the auto crosses I attended. Many people made very sarcastic comments concerning their lack of power. Maybe they now offer a more potent version, admittedly I don't know. But IMO Mazda geared the original cars toward women and still enjoy a large female following. Anyone know what percentage of new Miata owners are women? Bet it is higher than the Corvette's.

But given the replies here guess some apologies are in order. Didn't mean to hit any nerves. Except for the homophobe guy.

Oh, and by the way, women are generally smaller than men. Another indication the car was geared toward that market segment. Or does that make me a homophobe too?

  6. Actually it is hard to find an early 240 that doesn't have a bulge in the floor from someone trying to put a jack on "the frame rails". On the plus side if you get in the car and use your foot or a rubber mallet you can pop the floor back into position. Don't try jacking it from under the seat. Trust me.

For $54 at Harbor Freight you too can own a floor jack

Or go to Pep Boys or a junk yard and get a cheap scissors jack

This type you can carry in your car.

Duh, just read your last post about the scissors jack.

  7. I am REALLY interested to hear how this swap goes. The GTO's have an odd oil pan with a front sump and oil filter that looks totally incompatible with the stock Z cross member. The first idea is to replace the pan with one from a Camaro and install a remote oil filter, but I have no idea how the oil pump tube is mounted in the pan.

    Lots of pictures.

  8. I read things like this, think of my 4 year old and want to bust.

I know they have to grow up and go out on their own at some point, but good lord, the thought of it when he is this small. Good luck to you. As you know, lots of letters make boot camp more bearable.

As far as joining the Air Force, become an officer if they will take you. Enlisted men make a fraction of what the officiers do. And as for promotions, the lowest ranked officiers outrank the highest ranked enlisted so no contest there. If you go enlisted you will most likely start out cleaning toilets somewhere. The more people above you the more chit that can roll downhill on you. It is definitely a class system and the enlisted are well on the bottom.

But, with all this talk of the war and the military not meeting quotas, some branches of the service are being very selective with who they will take as an officier. The son of a friend at work just joined the Navy and he had to enlist. They would not accept him as an officer even with his recent 4 year degree. He got into a crypo field, with advanced schools and automatic promotion to E4. His big goal is to do a Mike Kelly, get the clearances and hope they carry him through retirement. But I was amazed to find out even at that rank he is only making about $24K a year. Enlisted salaries haven't come up much since I got discharged in 1982.

BTW, if you do join up get a guaranteed job assignment before you sign. The missle silos in North Dakota are full of guys wearing glasses who joined up with the idea of becoming a pilot. Not that there is anything wrong with the guys doing silo duty. God bless them. Just don't get disillusioned about what you expect.

  9. I could have sworn I saw something like that on a Rides show with Jay Leno. Leno was talking about the car that first got him interested in cars. Was an Oldsmobile concept car of some type. For some reason that car reminds me of that one.

I googled Eddie Leon. all I really came up with was a baseball player and a blues musician.

  10. I'll bet money there are more than a few members on this site with over $15K in their engines. That damn thing has titanium connecting rods. I will also bet if you took an LS1 or 2 and tried to build it up to anywhere near that number of cubes you would have over $15K in the package. Sure, you could get that type of peak HP out of an NA LS1, but can't imagine you would have anywhere near the torque band.

What do some of their crate big blocks go for? Aren't some of them around $10K?

Not saying this is a bargain deal, but if you look at everything in it the price is not that outrageous.

  11. Man, have to agree. Beautiful car. Has all the bolt on goodies too. Could learn alot from his build.

What the hell happened to his brake MC? No wonder the under hood looks so clean. Also anyone know why he would put adjustable bars going from the front of the strut tower to the frame rails? I know this is suppose to be a good area to brace, but why adjustable heim joints?

    Beautiful car.

  12. From the picture the damage doesn't look fatal. Looks expensive, but not fatal. It looks like it hit well in front of the tire. The front corner is mostly fluff, the "frame rails" are well tucked up between the wheels.

If the suspension components are not broken, cracked or tweaked then I would bet if you just pry the sheet metal away from the tire you could drive it.

But, like I said, that is only from looking at those two pictures. Most def bend some of the sheet metal out of the way so you can open the hood for a closer look.

  13. Maybe some day I will be able to build a car half that nice. That is gorgeous. I love swaps that have a "factory" look to it. Like someone really took the time to think out how everything should fit together rather than the one off look of most hand built swaps.

As far as engine choices, kind of hard to argue any of the Japanese V8's when a small block chevy has to be the performance for the $$ champ.

  14. I normally don't go for such clown wheels, but for some reason I kind of like the looks of that one. Maybe it is the short wheel base and cropped top that give it the willies jeep/rock crawler sort of look. I imagine it is an absolute pig to drive and total theft bait, but definitely different.
