wow strotter. Thanks alot. I really couldnt have asked for a more in depth response. People like you are why I love this board. Now im off to fix my paint. For a buffer, i dont suppose i could just get a buffer head for my drill could I, because im young....and cheap...and poor. Also, what would you suggest for an area near the base of the windshield where it looks as if paint has puddled, then dried, leaving a kinda cracked, raised spider web surface. Thanks.

I recently got my first car, a 72 240. Now this car has a fairly new repaint on it, but it was a very cheap job. It has a run or two, what looks to be puddles, and generally not a good finish at all, that isnt even uniform throughout the car. I dont think that it is clearcoated. Now i really dont have the money to get a new paint job right now, and this is only my first car so im not looking to spend a great deal of money on the car on something that i cant transfer to my next z. basically, I am asking how i would go about bringing a nice shine to a cheap paint job. The things that come to mind are sanding and buffing, and clearcoating, but as i am not a paint specialist at all i dont quite know. Please help, any is appreciated. Thanks

Hello all,
I just bought a 72 240z, its a great car, but the wiring is a mess. I have done a search, but am still deciding which route to go to fix the problems. Here is whats wrong.
Neither of the turn signals work, front or rear, and the clicking noise isnt there, though it was when i first bought the car, so its intermittant.
the back up lights dont work
one of the wipers works ok, the drivers side only goes through a portion of its movement
the headlights are very dim
when the headlights are on, the tails are not on like the should be, but they do come one under braking
the horn doesnt work
I dont know if there are lights for the gauges, but if there are, they dont work
Please instruct me in which direction to go for these problems. I dont know whether or not to get a harness, or just wires, or just certain relays. I need to have these things fixed pretty soon as i believe i have to have this inspected in 30 days, any help would be very much appreciated. as detailed as possible if it isnt too much trouble.

wow, i want that whole g nose kit. That is my new goal in life, to find a kit, even if a replica, and install it on my car. yes
-
that is the direction i wanna go with my car. I love it.

I have, but the fact is that this is my first car, and I'm not looking to overpower myself and wreck it right away. I gotta concentrate in learning how to drive at first. I also dont have access to an engine hoist at this point so i cant really just drop one in. Thanks for your help and any future help.

Hey guys,
I am bidding on a 240z on ebay, that has an automatic transmission, but is otherwise perfect. Considering it is near me in NY I cannot pass this car up. My questions are many. I have done a search, but have not come up with any complete lists and such. Basically I would like to know what transmission is best to swap in, and by best i mean easiest/cheapest. I would also like a list of all the parts you guys think would be necessary for the swap, and basically the process of it. I am very handy, but havent done anything to this order yet. Also, if anyone has done it and has advice or tips, that would be greatly appreciated. If there are any special tools that I will need for this please let me know. Thanks alot for your help guys.

Wow, where do you get those flares that are connected to the lip of that g nose. That Looks amazing, and I bet it really helps with the lift problem of the Z as well as making it a bit slicker.
-
That is beautiful. Way way slicker than the stock setup. I like that very much.
-
I dont know if these are quite what your looking for. but they are 3 piece so you could paint the wheels black if necessary. I just found em on ebay.

I plan on building a drift Z. This car is my inspiration
gimme some fender mirrors and im done.
-
haha, now we can scavange ferrari's for mirrors. Surely it must be easier to find a 250gto in a junk yard, than a 240zg.
-
the ferrari 456 and the 3rd gen rx7 are around .290. That is quite slick, if only our Z's were that aerodynamic.
-
just about all of the engine is behind the shock towers, i really would like to know the weight distribution.
-
my father has a jag xjs v12, and that is a great engine. as far as parts availability, there are usually a few non running cars that mechanics are afraid to touch sitting in junkyards. THe main engine parts shouldnt be too hard to come by. the stock 260hp v12 in my dads xjs really hauls that 4000lb car. I cant imagine what it would do in a Z, with two turbos

Mine is on some remote island in the carribean, then taking classes at Johns Hopkins. I wont get to see her much this summer. Too bad, I really miss her.

you could make an absolutely wicked gokart. Figure you could somehow mate the engine directly to the diff, or better yet, have a chain driven live axle with the engine mounted transversly. Instead of having a clutch, you could have a freewheel sprocket from a bike. Wow that would be badass.
-
I looked it up and it has an audi 5 cylinder engine. I don't know whether or no you wanna believe this, but i found this dyno sheet on a site. Draw your own conclusions.

here are some wheels with our bolt pattern that are relatively cheap, and come wrapped. They probably arent the proper offset, but spacers can be obtained relatively cheaply I believe.
-
one of the elephant videos completely made me sick. I cant believe that they could do that. The way the elephant fell....i duno, it just seems wrong.
-
that turbo vid is insane. Good inspiration.
-
Those are not ZG flares, close but no.
That will be a very very nice Z when its done. I want mine to be something like that. Flared light, with a decently powerful but very light engine. I want an oldschool drift monster.
-
wow, how are you ever going to fit 11inch wheels under the back. That is a whole lotta meat for a relatively light car. I cannot wait to see them mounted.
-
I know the Z makes lift, though I am not sure how much. Hmm, that is a somewhat high drag coeffecient.
