Nonlouvered hood, drivers side FB headlight bucket, 240 grill
josh817 posted a topic in Parts Wanted
Hey guys, looking to repair some damage! I need a GOOD used hood. No rust throughs or major dents please, without louvers! I also need a good straight 240z upper grill along with the drivers side fiberglass headlight bucket. Once again, good parts please, no broken studs or anything like that. Looking to stay local for this stuff so I don't have to pay shipping on this big stuff. Thanks for all the help! -
Now I can finally repair the damages and still have some money left to purchase some other fun stuff! What I would like to do: 1. Buy Derek's VR bracket and trigger wheel hub however I have the wrong pulley so I guess I'll get the proper one while I'm at it (even though I like my 240 2 row very much) so I can get ignition done 2. Install my big brake kit and pray that they fit in these Supra 14" rims 3. Purchase a fuel cell (sell the old tank back to the previous owner since he welded a really cool sump on it) 4. Install a dual pipe exhaust with the megaphone tips (sell this pipe and muffler) 5. Fabricate an airbox to fit my 40's however it will also fit 45's With all that done, I still have a large amount of cash. I must decide if I should purchase a single 45mm Weber because Dad has two 45mm for the BMW 2002 however someone told him that they are too big so he said he will give me the two 45mm if I get one more, and then I give him my three 40mm. If I do this I must be prepared to tune. I was lucky enough to have the car run alright without any jet changes on these babies. I already did all the stuff that the tuning books have you go through to figure out a basic jet range. Its just buying the jets thats a *****.If I did this I would also buy a wideband and the cable but not the gauge because Megajolt has a 0-5v input and it has a gauge on the computer plus it logs the AFR along with ignition advance, tps, and rpms. This would be one large upgrade leaving me with only a little bit of money left. I could touch up on some other things like bushings, sway bar, strut bar, just a bunch of moderately inexpensive upgrades BUT I have to find the time to take apart my car and install it. Other than that I haven't a clue what else I'm going to do with my car. And I love that feeling. Maybe a roll cage after that, slowly turning it into a track car. I spoke with the CVAR z car representative about entering into the student section until I get my license. This means one weekend you do their school, then you have 3 weekends of racing with the X on the back of your car, however you get to race with your group rather than racing with a mixed group of students, if that makes sense. I mentioned to him that I'm running the T5 tranny and a stroker motor and he said I can use it during my student term but once I get my license it must be changed. Thats nice because they want to make sure CVAR is right for you, before you change everything on your car. The Z dude is running the proper 2.4L, 11.5:1 cr, he said 40mm Mikunis but they definitely looked like 45's, he claimed tons of head work on his E88 head with lots of chamber reshaping to the extent that it pissed off the builder... He use to be stuck behind a lot of slow people because he had a 4 speed tranny however I guess he saved up his money and his engine builder "Steve" found a dude he builds Datsun transmissions to whatever gear set you need, that being a wide ratio, medium, and close ratio box. I never knew there were people that did that! Anyway, he's running a medium with a 4.11 rear end and he's scared to drive it. I was like damnit, give me your helmet and suit, I'll pretend to be you and I'll drive your car like I have a pair. Really friendly dude! I visit him every time I wave flags for the club (I do it because Dad use to be in the club with his Triumphs). He invited me to go hang out with the muscle car dudes, where they proceeded to harass us with their large displacement V8 jokes which were most definitely, unfunny. However we did eat some of their BBQ and drank some of their beer which I don't think bothered them at all since they are made of cash basically. Literally, multiple Mustang gt350's and 500's, Pantera, Lola racing, etc. Its ridiculous. Have some videos of the races if you actually made it down this far. By the way! CVAR is meeting up again at TWS the weekend of A&M's home game or whatever in November. We will be running old, authentic, 60's Indy Cars on the oval! Dad is trying to get all his midget racer dudes out there too but they may run into some safety problems... Different Z guy, I think he did SCCA ITS too, he sure is giving this student in a porsche a run for his money.... for a couple of minutes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpYDX1y6JYw Off to get a rental car while someone repaints my toys. If anyone LOCAL has a non louvered hood, drivers side fiberglass headlight bucket, and a 2400 upper grille, talk to me. No dents or rust throughs please!

Sounds lame Notice how I responded within 5 minutes. I'm THAT good. -
Yah I mean, you could just PM him. Just sayin just sayin!

I would guess pinging myself. Check your timing, should be simple enough... if you have the equipment. Try running higher octane gas and see if it goes away, play with the mixture. Those seem like common ways to diagnose pinging.

Dude we're thinking on the same brain frequencies. Right after I responded I went to go look at one. what sort of research can be done on them though? -
Uh oh I'm sorry, let me change everything here.

Since I reposted something I had to change everything up. This is still cool though! http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=21b_1242711614

Are you kidding me. Ours is like a water distributor. We have to fill 4 cups, two 6 ounce, two 4 ounce cups without any electronics and without any spillage. No, we didn't get to choose what we do but I'm glad they didn't just say "ok we want a project due at the end of the semester, go and do it, see yah later" psh -

Oh god this thread makes me scared. I'm only a freshman and seeing how you have these huge projects, I wouldn't know what the hell to do. H2 generator >> gas into potato canon >> fire cannon. REALLY easy to make an h2 generator. I made one really fast out of materials susceptible to rust and oxidation so after an hour you would have a ton of gunk in the water. Rust for steal or iron and then this white stuff when I used aluminum turkey cooking sheets. You can make a good compact one out of exhaust pipe, looks like a giant (1-2ft tall) cylinder. Start with a 4" pipe and work your way down to like 1". The smaller the increments, the closer the pipes sit together (never touching), the closer the gap the more H2 you get, the more current you pass through the metal the more production too. Usually you ground the outside pipe so you don't zap yourself, I can't remember if - is a cathode or an anode. Then you alternate the -+-+-+-+ in the pipes. Put wedges of wood between the pipes so that they don't touch. The system won't build pressure, I don't think. Maybe like 3 psi. You can also drill holes in the pipes for more surface area which means more production. Alternate ideas with h2: 1. H2 torch, use your generator to get the h2, send it through a series of "bubblers" to keep it from back flaming into the central system and blowing you to kingdom come. Hook up a hose from the bubbler to a flame retardant to ensure safety, then send that to a torch tip. The crap cuts through/melts anything I do believe, even granite. :] 2. If you have fuel injection on any of your cars then you can hook the system up to it. Same flame cut out thing so you don't blow up and you send the H2 to the manifold or something like that. I think it increases the mpg, not sure. Seen some stuff on it but then its also intertwined with "thats not true!" so I don't know what to make of it. 3. Get a fuel injector, spray a mist of water, make a spark plug for a plasma ark, spray water into plasma, the heat separates the water into its components hydrogen and oxygen and then ignites it. I think people like to refer to is as cold fusion, even though technically I don't THINK it is. But I mean its still cool. Theres also some old 80's clip of a dude who drove a dune buggy across america on like 20 gallons of water. He died and everyone thinks the oil companies killed him off, however my point is that he used water for combustion, maybe through the same process as I mentioned. Videos to refer to for the idea: And finally my favorite ideas, make a turbo jet engine, find a way to make it efficient thrust wise or something. -old junkyard turbo -oil pump -propane or liquid fuel, liquid you have to pump in and its apparently a little more difficult to finagle -fabricate a combustion chamber -boost gauge and anything else you want to keep track of. I've seen dudes with shaft rpm and EGT's, etc. Video to refer to (it was diesel fueled I believe): OR you can do a pulse engine which is really easy because there aren't any moving parts, unless you use a valved pulse engine. However, the valves get burned and beat up after a couple of minutes of running. The valveless system depends on the low pressure behind the combustion I guess you could say, which it sucks air back in to be burned. Use a spark plug to get it started and once it glows red hot you can turn the plug off. The valved system works the same way however instead of using pressurized propane you use liquid fuel. Its one single pipe in a straight line instead of a pipe which doubles back around. The valve is the type that flaps around so when there is combustion occurring, its shut closed, the low pressure wave that forms sucks the flap open which sucks in air. This vacuum also sucks the fuel in through a jet too, so you don't have to pump the fuel in. Video: Check out the rest of that dudes videos. he has made both big and small, valveless and valved. What would be cool is to do what some guys do on here and find the high and low pressure zones or something and try to make it the most efficient. Literally, all it is, is piping, a spark plug, and some propane. That was long winded. I'm sorry. EDIT: Oh and not to mention, the pulse jet also studies the concept of the scavenging effect on exhaust systems. You know, with the high prssure wave followed by a low pressure wave used to help draw in more air and fuel. I don't think a pulse jet can even work without a flared end on its pipe or a megaphone setup. -

You're making me upset because its so pretty. -
Mom will rent out the car and I'll take hers. I plan on buying used parts and having them painted. There won't be any wet sanding or making perfect, just spray the parts. I'm the one who's fitting them onto the car and everything, I just don't want to paint again. It was 3 months in hell for me when I did the entire car. I have everything to wet sand the car and to polish it out so thats for me to do. If I haven't tried to do something atleast once, to see what its like, then thats what I'll be doing. I painted and hated it, so they will paint, but I haven't wet sanded and buffed out a car before. He quoted $350+ just for the paint and then there was labor to paint and labor to install. Since I'm installing, thats cool, they'll be painting so thats cool, and I spent like $400 on paint for the entire car. Its cheap Nason paint, works fine. Get a quart with reducers for $100 and you're good to go. I already had money lined up to finally finish my ignition and big brakes (if they fit in my wheels) so I think all this extra cash will go to suspension and fuel cell.
-
Thats exactly what we're doing however the $2100 is for repairs and not the rental as far as I'm concerned. If they try and say the rental must be done with the $2100 then they need to think again because the $2100 is sectioned out by labor, parts, and taxes, nowhere on the paper does it say rental car fee.

Well now! The appraiser came out today. very nice and polite dude. We were polite back, just as you told us to be. I printed off the 4 parts from MSA to show him what I found and this worked out very well because his database only goes back to 1980 so he didn't know how to price everything. I pointed out the spots of damage and everything, he took pictures, did his thing. We now have $2100 for repairs! :/ Thats a ton, I almost feel bad. I said I could probably find cheaper places to get parts from and that I can reuse a lot of stuff that didn't get mega-crushed. Anyway, I'm very happy. I'll get a rental car, order my airdam, and hunt around locally for used parts. The rest will go to upgrades I guess... >_>

.Nah, he really thought I was speeding from the way we were going back and forth. I wasn't giving attitude but I was stating the questions in a way that cornered him so all he was left with is "no you were speeding". Obviously didn't want to admit that I wasn't being clocked, because if I were to be clocked, my speed would be 35mph in a 40mph zone. I guess you could try and make a reckless driving argument however the warning signs are simply that, warning signs. It isn't a mandated 20mph, just a suggested limit. If I were in a truck or a fully loaded car then I'd go 20mph but otherwise 35-40 is easy in almost any car. I'm betting you could do 60+ with regular car and tires.

We've gone through this before. Us Z drivers have it "rough". I've been pulled over for it being late and for silly driving. The late night was because I was looking for a place to grab a bite to eat. Here in Keller, lots of police and not very many cars at night. I pass by the Wataburger which I tend to avoid because everyone who has caused trouble in Keller, causes it there. Fights with bats, drugs, guns, cars, etc at that one location and nowhere else. So I go on and try Taco Bell thinking it was 24/7. The officer sees me pulling in and stops me, but without the lights. Simple as it is, asked him where I can find food. He says Wataburger and I told him how scary people go there at this hour. Respectful and understanding. Wataburger was dilicious but as expected, there were some kids tripping out on something in the back corner when I went in. The second time I was entering into a turn. Speedlimit is 40mph, I'm doing 40mph on my speedo which is 5mph fast so that SHOULD be 35mph. The turn has a the yellow hazard sign saying like 15mph. Well damnit I don't need to go slower than ♥♥♥♥ to make a turn with a Z that has nothing in it but me. So I go through there maintaining my 35-40mph (whichever it may be). Police officer sitting right there as I'm exiting out of the turn. Now my revs were a bit high, maybe 4000rpm and the car is loud so its deceiving however he pulled me over for speeding. First thing he says to me is "What was that all about" and I didn't want to be a smart ass but I seriously didn't know what he was referring to since I saw no problem. I said what do you mean, he said with an assuring voice that I was speeding. Now this is where I gave him the chance to own me because I said "oh, well my speedometer is a bit off. What did you clock me in as? I thought I was fine" he comes back getting antsy saying "you were speeding". I just looked at him waiting for a number to be announced but he goes back into his car so I was like uh.... ok? I mean for god sake I was pulled over a week ago and got a ticket so I was pretty sure that obeying the law was top priority. I honestly think he went back into his car to go warm up or tinker with some buttons for a while so it looked like he did something because he came back out and said take it easy and quickly got out of there. Like, stormed off. It was hilarious. He pulled me over without clocking my speed. I'm guessing the looks of the car, the noise, and the fact that I'm not a little wienie through turns on dry roads, deceived him. All in all though, its nice to have them around. Get pulled over, so what unless you're late to something. My mom entered her honda into some program where if its after 2 AM or something and the officer sees the little sticker on the window, he will pull you over no matter what and check to make sure its not stolen. I'm considering doing this with my car too.

Yah I agree. I was just thinking the same about our old cars. I have AT LEAST $2000 worth of stroker motor in there, plus paint and body from this past June, plus a bunch of other little things. I think if they try to total it I'm going to hit the road and call up the dude responsible for it. He came off as a very straight forward honest man, very apologetic, etc. I don't know if he's made of money BUT I can ask him whether he would pay for it, avoid the insurance hit, and help me avoid the salvaged title. If it comes out to be one of those write the car off situations and I can't do anything about it, I'll probably attempt to throw a fit and explain the way I'm thinking, that being; why should I be punished for something YOUR customer did to me. I'm taking a hit and I wasn't even sitting in the car, nor was it parked in any illegal spot. Or I could just call my agent and do something smart. I'm finding it funny how these "agents" say call them but they're never there. What do you do if you aren't there to take calls about accidents. i always get the secretary or someone else. Does the big wig not have to do anything?

Sounds exciting!

Ah ok, its because of the carbs onto the supercharger thing. I was thinking more on the lines of running a supercharger to injectors, so its the same concept as a turbo... just... supercharger. Cool the air before the injectors sort of thing. EDIT: Maybe not, I'm still lost. D: Someone is bound to explain.
