  1. A Cousin of the Z, is better than a Z?. Hmmmmm.

Lostfairlady must have fallen down and bumped his head.

Happy Birthday Man. You should get plenty of looks from people staring at your car and at a 16th of the price of the cars you mentioned. B)

  2. I would say if you jumped the starter the engine should have turned over, so I would look at the starter as being the main issue.

Have you checked the voltage at the ignition switch?.

Have you checked for battery voltage at the battery cables going to the starter?.

Have you checked the voltage at the starter signal wire ( small wire going to starter )?.

What condition are the battery cables in?. Are they Original?.

I would check all of those with a volt meter before giving up on the L.

  3. If you are concerned about welding close to the trans, engine or, dash. You can get your replacement panels and glue them into place. I have seen a few body adhesive products that make attaching metal panels easier. I like to use the finished product I have thought about for months, as my motivation. Nothing like attacking one problem from a list at a time and then crossing each one out, until that list is real small.

I performed my rust repairs as I was gathering the parts to fix my car, The floors, door sills, battery box, and spare tire well. I cut the rust all out and sealed and riveted all the new sheet metal into place. It was never planned to be a show car, just a fun play toy that had the power to keep up with todays performance cars. :D

    Attack those rust repairs.

  4. Its hard to tell the difference in injectors becasue a lot of them have been replaced, with aftermarket ones. Those can be all different colors. If my memory serves me correctly, stock turbo injectors are brown.

Check the fuel filter also, Remove it and try to blow through it. You should be able to blow through the filter with no effort. If it takes a lot of effort to blow through it, it is clogged or clogging up. Replace it.

  5. If it were me I would do everything to the engine while its out of the car, So much easier that way. If the engine is bad, its not like you have to by all those parts over again. Rubber gaskets can be re-used, and you can use rtv to seal the water pump. Most newer engines use mostly rtv to seal them up anyway, Just don't go overboard with how much you use though.

  6. The road force tire machine helps when you still have a vibration, after having the tires balanced. It can help identify if a tires high spot can be matched, to a rims low spot to reduce the vibration. Some people do not know that a wheel and tire can be balanced and shows on a machine as so, But it can still be out of round and cause a vibration.

  7. You may be able to narrow down where the noise or noises are coming from. Place your ear on the handle end of a long screw driver and place the other end along the engine, alternator outer case, and trans case. While the engine is running.

Check for a blown headgasket since you said the engine had timing issues. Warped exhaust manifold causing an exhaust leak.

  8. I would get it on a lift and take measurements. If you cant do that, jack the car up and put it on jack stands and measure the suspension to the underside of the car body. By the angle of the pics it does look off but measuring it up, will be conclusive.

Your pics reminded me, I have to redo all the trim I black-out on my red z also. Thanks for reminding me, :( thats 4 hours worth of work. lol

  9. If you find the link your looking for or receive an answer to your post, the other cylinder heads may be an option. If it were me I would figure out what compression ratio, I want my engine to be first. If you can't get that ratio with your engine parts, then I would look into a different head.

There are threads that show which block and head combos, produce what compression ratio.

Work on what compression ratio you want the engine at first though. Then you can decide on a cam, Carbs or Injection and so on.

  10. I think he is just venting, Being that I am a Nissan dealership tech myself I see the same things. 22" wheels on a dropped altima is not a fun car to try to get on a lift, god forbid on an alignment machine. I don't think he uses the same verbage with his customers.

We have to place wood blocks down to get jacks under the cars and or on the lifts, depending on the model. We let customers know in advance that they will still be charged the alignment fee, even if we can't set camber or caster. They either agree to pay it or not. Makes things go smoother for everyone involved.

  11. Most of the newer cars have 2 or 4 02 sensors. The front sensors are now called Air/Fuel sensors and the rear sensors are the Heated oxygen sensors. They still do the same thing, Just changed the name.

I know for sure Volkswagen sensors work with the LC1 Controller, I bought one as a replacement when my first wide-band went out on me.

  12. Check and clean all the injector wire connections and sensor connections first. Figure out if the engine is missing or not. Make sure all the spark plug wires are in the correct spots on the dist cap and at the spark plugs.

Some smoke may come from the valve cover with the oil cap removed. Not a big deal.
