I have a 1978 with a 2000 Trans Am / 6 Speed. Ran 2 rubber fuel lines to the engine. One for fuel one for return. Also the line for the gas tank canister. Put a T in the fuel line, one to the fuel rail the other into a fuel pressure regulator and back to the tank. Got the regulator on e-bay for about $25.00. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2282022 If you want, give me a call on 303 541 0616 in the eve. It is difficult doing this non verbally

Check out the sound !!

The large heat shield came with the car new. I bought it in California in 1978, it required a CAT and the heatshield. I hope it keeps the car temp down as i imagine the LS_1 puts out a lot of heat. I am amazed you picked up on it. I am trying to upload to you tube so you can hear it running

I sent my tach to John's Cars for calibration. Today when I hooked it up it did not work. I have a single wire from the LS_1 computer that I thought went into the red/black post (see picture). The bad news is I have a dash cover that prevents me from pulling the tach from the front, so I just pulled the dash again. Hope its the last time. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Just brought the car home from the muffler shop. I was able to find a real craftsman to do it. I hope you agree. Now its time to put the body together and get it painted. I am amazed at how smooth the car is, its power, its drivability and the help from this web site. I have driven this car for over 30 years, only put 58,000 miles on it and was concerned I was going to ruin a classic. But the LS_1 along with John's Cars Kit and other parts from JTR make this a better car and and I think my Z understands that!!!! http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2282022

If you go to "sticky's" link for his documentation on the JCI conversion, everything you need to know is there. I did a LS_1 with JCI and is kit is about a perfect as it gets. It is clearly a class act. I did use JTR(sanderson headers), radiatior and induction tubes. JCI also has an elegand drive shaft. Good luck -
Mike, you beat me to the punch. Hurst short throw shifters were a common option. My setup came from a Trans Am and also has the Hurst short throw shifter. I also removed the 1st to 4th lockout solenoid on the tranny and plugged it with a oil drain plug, fits right in. Then the PC was programmed without it. The Hurst shifter has the shortest throw I have ever driven, works great!!!

LS_1 / 6 Speed Clutch Question
rwwisnesky replied to rwwisnesky's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
The Tilton TIL-75-875U went into the 280Z perfectly. It works great and the washer bottle clears. I did put a 90* elbow on it in order to make a quick turn out of the cylinder. It comes with straight fittings, so I should have ordered the fitting with the Tilton. Since I didnt, I had to drive to Denver to get one, apparantly "an" fittings are not stocked in most parts stores. I was able to switch the rod from the 280Z cylinder to the Tilton, so the rod and fitting to the pedal remained original metric, no drilling required. -
A video if interested

Thanks for the note. This is a link to my website. Will add more pictures as I progress. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2282022

Thanks to all of you that provided information on my many questions during my installation. The LS_1 is in and running. Last step is the exhaust system. Thanks again

P.S. I eliminated the EGR valve when I went to the Sanderson headers. -
lS1 EVAP Purge Valve and Catalytic converters

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2282022 My exhaust is not complete yet. Plan on the two headers going into one 3" cat and a 3" pipe out the back thru a magna flow muffler. The canister has three hoses. One for vacuum, hooked to nipple on air intake, one from tank to canister, and one from canister to engine. I t-eed into the line from the P/S valve cover that runs into the air intake. Good luck. -
LS_1 / 6 Speed Clutch Question
rwwisnesky replied to rwwisnesky's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
I am running a 2000 Pontiac Trans Am, same as Camero. I ordered the .875 only because it was recommended in other threads on Hybrid. Hope it works. -
LS_1 / 6 Speed Clutch Question
rwwisnesky replied to rwwisnesky's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
Well, I just ordered a Tilton TIL-75-875U master cylinder from Summit. Looks like it should solve the clutch problem more elegantly than what I did this evening. Thanks for the tip. I assume it will not be metric so I will need to drill out the old threads. I actually was able to change the rod on the other Tilton with the old Z rod and convert it to metric. I dont imagine I will be that lucky with this one. -
LS_1 / 6 Speed Clutch Question
rwwisnesky replied to rwwisnesky's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
You guys are great !!!! I was out in the garage about an hour and already have answers to my question. I was able to take all of the slack out of the stock setup and it gave me enough extra pedal that I am able to engage the clutch now !!! I like the idea of the shorter Tilton and an going to look into it. The one I have is too long as the bottle comes down on top of it. I am going to the shop to get an exhaust made next week. Going to run into one cat and out a 3" pipe to a magnaflow and out the back. Thanks again. !!! -
OK, everything is in including the Taurus fan. Runs good, BUT, I have a clutch engagement problem. I orginally put a Tilton clutch master cylinder in in the 280Z, but prevented the washer bottle from fitting into the car. I took a risk and put the original Datsun master back in. Now the car will not shift into gear with the engine running. I can put it in first, start the engine and the engine will idle, so not too much drag. The cluch engages when the pedal is very near the floor and the car moves nicely. Question, any good ideas, if I use the Tilton, no washer bottle. Any other ideas are welcome. Heading out to the garage now to see if I can get any additional pedal travel out of the existing setup.

LS_1 JTR Radiator Question
rwwisnesky replied to rwwisnesky's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
The engine is from a 2000 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am with 24,000 miles on it. I mounted the PCM by brilling thru the aluminum case and bolting directly into the fender well. I also powder coated it. That may make it look thinner. I hope it does not melt !!!! -
Thanks wayne, good input !!!

LS_1 JTR Radiator Question
rwwisnesky replied to rwwisnesky's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
That is the PCM sitting on the fender well. It was the only space I could find. I hope it is OK. I thought about running a tube thru the front and pull air in to help cool it. If necessary, even a small blower. -
LS_1 JTR Radiator Question
rwwisnesky replied to rwwisnesky's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
Thanks for the comments and the hose offer, but I have worked thru it. now just need the fan. -
Thanks for all the input. I ordered a lincoln / mustang 2 speed fan on ebay, but it has not arrived yet. I hope it looks like the one in the picture. That really looks great. NOW, how do you wire it and is the terminal in the JTR radiator a temp sensor. The JTR box had lots of parts, but no instructions. I have mounted it and worked out the hoses, but will have to remove to install fan if it ever gets here !!
