  1. I know a 5.3L vortec motor is iron block and heads.. Will a LS1 intake fit on one without too many mods? Will a T56 bolt right? I already have the JTR headers for an LS1 but will they fit a 5.3? Tell me why I should and shouldn't get a 5.3L for like a quarter of the price of a LS1.
  2. headlights, turn signals, ground, horn, gauges, heater controls. I think thats it, the rest is ran back to the harnesses and removed.
  3. Well I just dug into it really in depth tonight, took the dash out, unwrapped all the looms, everything. All I have to say is why would anyone need a book for that It was seriously mindboggling how easy it was to reduce the amount of wires for unneccesary stuff.. Did it in like 3.5 hours.
  4. Yea, that looked like it sucked horribly, because everything is so strung out and everywhere yet so tidy at the same time in the diagram. With it blown up though it is a hell of alot easier to see stuff, especially tracing it from the pcm and out.
  5. Wow.. I now understand haha.. you should see how huge I blew up your diagram too.. It spans about 3.5 feet wide and about 1.5 feet tall and is hanging up on my garage wall.. Helps alot if you dont like to use a magnifying glass.
  6. Which book, the 350 sbc swap book? It tells about 10 wires that you need to keep. Are those pretty much all the same as you need for the LT1?
  7. Im almost halfway done with getting rid of all the unneccesary wiring in the Z. When you're taking it all out, all you should keep is everything pertaining to the body controls correct? Are there ANY wires that I should be keeping that are actual engine wires and that are not listed in the JTR manual which I gladly bought? It doesn't really tell me what I need to know. I figured some of you LT1'ers would have a breakdown of what color wires to get rid of right at the firewall where they all come out, and then go from there, but I guess not. It would make the ease of this night and day Also, is there anything besides the fusible links that I should be keeping on the relay bracket? The PO did a wiring wonder and there are alot of things that aren't according to the FSM.
  8. Thats what everyone said about my past 6 cars. ^ Ill tally up the receipts when im done, then I can laugh.
  9. Im $1015.64 in mine!!!! $1000 price paid for basically mint car. $10 gas to get me home. $5.64 pint of body filler. No LT1/T56 yet.. Planning on keeping the budget under 4K I dont understand how all of you guys are going insane with your budgets.. Ive built many budget vehicles and this one doesn't seem like its going to be any different from those, 4K sounds like a reasonable peak for a running driving LT1 280Z.
  10. Yeah those are the ones.. the ones I would be getting would be 17's, but even if I still dont know if I would like the way they look. Looks like its time to fess up and get the same on wantanabes
  11. Throw me on some FR500's anyone? Just curious as to what they would looky like.
  12. Sorry I'm kinda new here and haven't had any time to do that. Its a 77 N/A, don't know too much about it, haven't had the time to research the 6 a whole lot. I know on newer cars with a temp sensor unplugged, it makes the cpu think that the coolant temp is like 32* and makes the car run pig rich.
  13. My coolant temp sensor wire is cut at the sensor, and I have no clue where it leads to. Can anyone show me a picture or anything of where that wire goes? Its making the car run crazy rich and fouling my plugs.
  14. Now that it is put in that perspective, I think I could possibly swing the 40$ lol.. Thanks guys.
  15. Dang guys, just wanted to save a happy meal or two My last couple builds were no expense spared, so don't think I cut corners. Here's my jeep I built in 3 days. Brought her home, waited a week. And the following weekend, from 5pm Friday, to 11pm Sunday. Just because I want to save a couple bucks here and there DOES NOT mean that things "can't" be done or "won't" be done right. Im only 18, working 45-50 hours a week. I appreciate money
  16. Anyone have a JTR SBC manual they want to get rid of? I just want some constructive reading without spending almost 40$ Call me cheap.. because I am Also if anyone knows where a LT1+6spd w/harness is, shoot teh PM
  17. Does anyone have a JTR book that they wanna sell to me? I don't feel like spending 35 bucks on a book haha.. Trying to do all this at 18, while just getting my career started, is kind of hard, especially with low, sometimes no funds. I manage to make things happen though. Don't get me wrong though, I am going to do this, I just would like to know half of the stuff im going to run into, instead of the usual nothing You guys have been really helpful though, and i appreciate that. If anyone has the JTR book that they want to get rid of though, just shoot me a PM and I will gladly give someone some $$
  18. Honestly I have never done an engine swap. Ive lifted stuff, bagged stuff, bought something to learn bodywork, built a stroker motor for my jeep, but the one thing i haven't done is an engine swap. I honestly don't see what would be too too hard about doing a LT1 swap. What exactly are you getting modified on the harness when you send it out? Besides that, what else would you have to do electrical wise if you had an engine with a full wiring harness?
  19. I give great respect to all those people out there building 700+ 383's. I'm definitely not bashing on a monster 383, I was just making a kind of biased choice, saying that the LT1 or any FI motor would be better for me. Even though a nice 383 would rock, carbonamuration just isn't for me Ive made my choice on what I want to set my mind to and follow through with, which would be the LT1. LS1's are just too expensive to buy and to mod. There is a picture of it sitting at the guys house, where it is right now Cant wait to bring her home but until then And guys, did I get jipped for paying 1000 bucks?
  20. Well looks like you answered that with the price part, looks like it would be more cost effective in my situation to just get a LT1 donor car and go from there. Anyone have any good leads on a LT1 with full wiring harness and transmission? I found a 95 Formula Firebird with a 6 speed, just has a blown head, not willing to take it as just a blown head though, im sure theres ♥♥♥♥ tons other things wrong.
  21. 383 stroker The downside of that to me would definitely ONLY be the hassle of tuning the carb all the time and the gas mileage I have searched and can only really find small portions of the LT1 swap. I have yet to find anything with even pictures of one being swapped.
  22. Hello all, im new to the Datsun world, so new that i don't even have my 280z yet, just waiting to pay off the last 200$ of it. Anyways, I have been doing alot of searching and have came up with the idea that everyone here likes the JTR stuff more than anyone elses. If i'm wrong, please correct me I am pretty set on doing a LT1 swap, because I dont fancy the 5.0's power, and LS1's are too expensive. I would like to run an auto behind it also. I really would LOVE, just a complete sort of in depth write up, on how to swap a LT1 in. I would just like to know what people are using electrical wise, and any problems they encountered while trying to do so. Im just getting down to the nitty gritty on this because it will either be a carbed dinosaur 383 stroker or the 95+? LT1. Are there any cheap stand alone systems or do most people just use the stock wiring harness? Im just looking for soo many answers, and im not really having too much luck.
