  1. "---It looks like a pretty clean car but that rusty frame rail kinda softens the deal...---"

Opinions are welcome but I think for being a northestern car it is in really good shape. Did you see the floorpans? The rails are also good and strong It`s just the outer patch panels that needs repair. Most 240z`s have this problem.

    "---so does the auto trans."---"

The automatic isn`t a bad deal breaker either. When shifted manually it hits second rather nice and third isn`t too bad either. I`m guessing that`s why the floor boards are still in good shape because it`s never had the twisting and bending from power shifting and dropping the clutch.

"-----"No reserve", but a starting bid of $3500? I think that's pretty much a "reserve".---"

The no reserve was put in there becuase I usually put a starting bid then a reserve and a buy it now price. This time I thought I`d just put what I want for the car.

Just wanted to put the car out there if anyone was interested. And I`m not holding anyone to thier Ebay winner comitment.

  2. They have no choice but to built it. Discontiuing the Camaro /Firebird and replacing it with the GTO was a huge mistake. The arogance of you`ll buy what we build no longer applies.

I think it`s bull that the Camaro and Challenger won`t be built until 2009. If these platforms were still in use we would see these cars the next model year.

Chysler didn`t start picking up speed until they started going retro with the 300c and Hemi, hence rear wheel drive platform. For years they relied on front drive "performance" cars. Remember the Laser,Daytona,Charger, Shelby and Omni GHL platforms? They could be made to go fast if it was a turbo car but none of them light a fire in your soul. For years they refused to build an affordable rear drive muscle car and let Ford and Chevy have the market while they played with trucks. I`m convinced if they had made an aforable muscle car with power and rear wheel drive they would have cleaned up, but what did they make...The Viper... not exactly afordable to the masses.

And that`s one of the reasons why GM is in trouble. Every car except the Corvette is front drive and the GTO isn`t selling becuse it`s a con on the past, and everyone knows it.

Remember when Dogde redesinged the ram truck and how it set the truck market on it`s ear and forced better, stronger and more apealing trucks from everyone including from Japan? That what GM needs to do with this car. The folks that grew up in the late 60`s early 70`s can afford a car that can take them back and GM is blowing it yet again.

Retro = a market that`s ready to buy memories of happy times long gone by.

  3. " I can't wait for the retro versions of the AMC Pacer and Gremlin."

Hell yeah can`t wait for the Mean Machine and The Rebel....just bling them up like they did in the 70`s...Man they were some fuggly cars back then but very patriotic none the less.

  4. I thought it was Lokar you were trying to remember so I checked them out. I looked at that setup but I`m still running the datsun unibody and ground clerance is still an issue. Im only replacing the engine frame rails and adding a cage with some improved stuceral modifications like recessing the side exhaust into the body and reshaping the frame connectors for example.

That pedal is made for the UP to 50`s streetrods and is really big, but thanks for the info! You did give me another idea on how to mount the M/C, acually I have quite a few ideas but won`t know until I dig into it on which one will work.

  5. I found another one brakesys90.gif

But all these are way too much money for what I have in mind.

I think I`ll do something along the lines of what jmortensen suggested in his last picure post. And that is extend the brake pedel up through the housing and mount the Datsun M/C there facing in my direction. Of course this is just a thought for now, since I`ve been sick and haven`t been able to go out to the garage lately.

  6. Thank for the replies, those pedals aren`t exactly what I had in mind. but would work. I might try to mount the stock unit that way.

The idea I had was somthing like this.

    ec-590p.jpg

But I only want the linkage to make it work with the stock setup and I`ll fab the rest.

EvilRufusKay: "question...why would you not use the booster anymore? "

Because a big cam lowers engine vacuum to a piont that the booster will no longer work properly, and the vacuum canasters are a pain to deal with, so it`s just better to change over to a manual brake system.

  7. I`m currently tubing my front end along with a full rollcage and i`m planning on fabbing up some wheel well headers. Since the M/C is off the car and I don`t plan on using the booster anymore. I`m thinking making the headers would be easier with relocating the M/C inside the car something along the lines of what the Chevy shoebox guys do (55-57) only in my case without relying on the dash for support.

Has anyone done this or know of a simple kit?

I think the major issue is finding a reliable pivot pin to use.

  8. Shelby tried to make lightning strick twice by putting a V8 in a british car, though they never had the popularity or following as the Cobra did.

When Chrysler bought the company that made the Sunbeam Tiger they acually had to warranty them with the ford engine. When a Chyrsler engine was too wide to put in the Tiger body the car was discontinued. My cousin knows a guy restoring an old documented racer says, they require a one off oilpan that goes for big bucks. I say get it and enjoy a piece of history!!!

Also,Maxwell Smart drove one in the "Get Smart" tv series.

  9. Yea, I thought about that while I was typing it, but Apple designed the engineering for the ipod. Our pads are used by 95% of the market world wide. If it has a chip in it chances are it was polished with our pad. It`s pretty amazing to see how a chip is made, especally today there`s so many layers of chemical pathways in something thinner then your finger nail or even hair. They easily fit over 1000+ chips onto a disk the size of a CD. Flatness is measured in 1-2 microns difference maybe smaller now, it`s been a few years since I learned about it.

  10. "rudypoochris: You wouldn't happen to work for Genentech would you? "

Nope sorry I work for Rohm and Haas, we make the polishing pads used to make the semiconductors in computers. They gave us the ipods to show us that we`re more then just the PC market.

I have tried the rebooting (several times) but no good the thing is shot. I just rebooted one that had a frozen screen and it worked like it should.

  11. Anyone have problems with thier ipod?

My company gave everyone one because of the good year we`ve had. So I`ve had mine for 2 days, worked great!!! the sound is unbelievable!!! Anyway had it charging on the computer and it falls 12 inches face down off of the PC tower and hasn`t worked since...Not a hard fall either I think a feather would have fallen harder.

I`ve tried everything to get it working again...It`s just DOA just makes clicking noises and the screen has no info just a black bar across it.

These are made with teenagers in mind right? And a 1 foot fall scrambles it up? If I had acually bought it I would be pissed that it broke this fast and is this fragile.

Then I read about people acually trying to break it and can`t....I thing what did it in was a drop from a building. Before that they were throwing it out of cars...one guy ran it though the washing machine..and it work fine!!!

Hopefully I`ll find out monday if I can get another one.

    Isn`t technology great!!

  12. I believe it`s the power to weight ratio the engineers have to go by in order to make the safety aspect of the goverment happy.

Have you read about the concept Bugetti car? 254mph governed top speed. 0-60 in 2.4 sec. 1000 HP 16 cyl (I believe) w/ 4 turbos and a 7 speed tranny. That thing is a heavy porker!!!!

From what I`ve read the power of that thing is unreal and puts everything else to shame!!! 254mph is the limit if the tires, know one knows the true top speed.

  13. Thanks for the replys, I sent an email to NHRA afew days ago, I`m still waiting for a reply I`ll probably end up calling them when the time comes.

"Also I vaguely recall that NHRA distinguishes between IRS where the halfshafts are used as suspension links (such as the Jaguar and most aftermarket hot-rod IRS retrofits), and Chapman struts (such as the Z) where the halfshafts are telescoping and not used for the suspension proper. The difference is that in the former, if a halfshaft breaks, the corresponding wheel comes off."[qoute]

So if i`m reading this right, our z falls into the jag and aftermarket catagory? I always thought if the half shaft(stub axle) broke the wheel would come off, but I thought that would be for any axle IRS or solid. I know that 10.99 aftermarket axles are required.

How are the vette and viper rears setup that the basics would be different then ours? I`m thinking the loop holes are from factory lobbying and not a better setup..

But I`m starting to get off point, has anyone acually had to change over from this rule recently?
