    My best 60' is a 1.7 but mostly im in the 1.8`s....when the CV broke it was a 1.9

     

    Your right John I do have Ross`s 280zxt conversion set up. I`ve thought about his 300z setup but my current one is only a year old so i`d like to get my money out of it, for right now anyway. Im hoping I could buy just a single CV joint (I haven`t checked it out yet but I believe it`s the outer one) rather than trying to find another shaft.

  2. Well the 11`s seem to elude me at every turn. Last month`s T&T the fuelpump takes a dump..Launch out of the hole at 6 psi and cross the traps at 3 psi...result best of 12.2 @ 111

     

    so install new fuelpump, 1/2" line, regulator...Bla,bla, bla...

     

    Today`s T&T with everything the same tuning as the month before, result is the basicly the same 12.3 @111...Was babying it some becaulse I had to rig...er adjust the throttle cable to get full throttle that I thought for sure there would have been an improvment...oh well on to run #2.

     

    Plugs alittle lean. Up the jetting from 78 to 80`s all around..re-set carb, timimg was off, bumped back up to 35 deg overall..felt strong real strong...11`s for sure or so I thought....

     

    Time for run #2...ran my cousin in his mercery comet he tells me he going to heat the slick good this time!...So I got the brain storm to do the same after all can`t let a FORD show me up!!! So I smoked them a little longer than I usually do...The slicks didn`t feel as stable as they usually do but nothing out of the ordinary...Stalled it up and let`er rip!! ...felt good and strong... real strong, pinning me back and the front end pointing skyward. This has to be 11`s or so I thought...So slowing down I hear.. thud,thud,thud from the right rear and go to make my turn onto the return road Bang,bang jerk,jerk...12.4 @ 112....DOH

     

    Well I think it`s a broken CV joint.. has anyone had any luck with after market cv joints for the 280zxt shafts and if so where did you get one.

  3. It sounds like you will have one sick setup. I just have to ask why

     

     

    Why???.....Becaulse it`s there :D No acually a friend at work has a 95 Eclipse that`s just sick!!! It pulls ever bit as hard as my datsun on LOW boost and if he was ever able to hook up it would be easy 11`s and the kicker is his motor is bone stock. At the time I drove it he have a front mount with a 16g turbo. Now he upgraded to the Big 16g turbo his top end is just :twisted: Sick,sick,sick.. bone stock motor..Sick.

     

    And im burned out with the tradition hotrodding and want to learn something different and current. Which I might add is how this datsun kick got started :-D

     

     

     

    What kind of setup do you have for your rear end? I'm worried about whether mine will survive.

     

    Im running a r200 W/3.90 and 280zxt shafts. I also have a r200 W/3.56 that will prob. be better for the turbo setup.

    I think the rear will be just fine. The way my car is setup, rear breakage won`t be an issue at the track. Because my best times were walking it out on drag radials and launching that way there`s no load on the rear. My best 60' is 1.7 with the majority being 1.8`s. I have slicks but haven`t been able to try them yet. I should also mention that stalling it up and hammering it out of the hole netted the same results even a little slower.

  4. The turbos you selected sound like they will spool up right off idle. Your rear tires wont have a chance.

    Your right they will!!! 8) The thing will definetly be a tourqe monster. Although im only planning to run about 6 or 7 psi because of my 9.5 compression. Im also planning, though maybe not right off the bat using the matching intercoolers for the turbos. I have one just need to get another. Im not looking for huge power but more of an understanding of the system. The car already runs 12.2 @ 111 in the 1/4 with a basicly stock 400ci. It has 11`s in it easy with some more tuning but i`ll back that statment up next month when the track opens up! :D

  5. Hanns, well long story short I wanted to use a real nice pair of 1.75 primary custom turbo headers I bought off ebay. I thought they would work, but when I was able to physicly match them with the car they turned out to be too wide and interfered with the strut towers. I was going to try and make an adapter until I found out how much header flanges were (I would have needed two sets). But even if I did make the adapters the tubes would have been too close to everything anyway.

     

    So im going to do something like you did. I haven`t decided if im going to use 2.5 or 3" square tubing. Probably 3" Because I don`t have the same concerns as you did about the engine compartment paint.

    Oh very nice car by the way I was very impressed!!!

     

    Im using DSM Garret T25`s off of the 2nd gen Eclipse. Too start out with then upgrade from there. They flow 350CFM apeice =700CFM combined and according to a Grandnational site mathmatical formula I need 685Cfm for my 400sbc.

    400 sb std bore, stock #882 heads, flattop pistons,LT1 cam (.460 lift) w 1.6 rockers,830 holley db, victor jr intake,stock HEI, turbo350 w loose 12"convert (2200stall), r200 3.90 w280zxt shafts, 2 1/2 y into single 2 1/2 into 1 flowmaster 3" muffler w/3" Electric cutout.

     

    best 1/4 12.2 @111 on drag radials...leaning out on topend

     

    this year easy 11`s if I remember to bring the jets this time!!!!

  7. It`s on my SBC car. I have a 12"x 3"extention running off the bottom elbow of the S pipe. My exhaust is pretty restrictive it`s 2 1/2 into a single 2 1/2 into a 3" flowmaster. It gives me about 4 tenths in the 1/4 :burnout: . It`s perfect for the track but not so perfect for the street, the fumes come right in the car at steady speeds :ugg: . But when closed it`s quiet no leaking (they suggest using red silicone with the header gasket) and when open it`s loud unmuffled,obnxous,testosterone driven exhaust :twisted: .

  8. if you were illegal wouldn`t you want to remain hidden from the goverment? then why obtain a drivers licence. as soon as they do the goverment will have tabs on who and where they are. why should they try to get one when they can drive without one. it`s just a stupid liberal political move that will haunt him long after he`s out of office. if he wants to stay in office he should sign an act making it manditory for everyone to learn and speak english.

  9. Well took my truck thru the DMV today...rear brakes failed but anyway they gave me the paper on why it failed and the diagram had the exact 240z front and rear suspension! r180 , ujoints , lower A- arms, struts, mustache bar and all. Very Cool!!! at least the DMV got something right!

  10. Unbolt the rear 2 bolts that hold the lower A arm bushing (leave the front section intact) and take out of holder. Then jack up the strut/drum assmb. until you have the most room outward... it will jack up like this ...)... Then install CV shaft.. This way gives you a good 2" extra to work with, you won`t even have to push in on the shaft, it just goes right in. After your done with the shaft just jack up on the inner controlarm by the bushing and it goes right back into place.

  11. Im in the middle of changing over to CV shafts and neither of my r200`s have any C-Clips?? except the one i can`t get out!!!! :evil:

     

    I don`t have any reason to think these rears were ever taken apart execpt the one side im having problems with ( broke a pry bar and a hardened chisle i was using as a pry bar!!). It has new bearings and the u joints have been replaced. I guess there was a problem with that shaft at one time.

     

    Oh Well out with the 3.54 rear and in with the 3.90 one. Guess i`ll put it back with no c-clips after all it came from the factory like that.

  13. Im using an old 4sp shifter with my auto. I welded the 3 linkage arms into one unit and had to remove alot on bothends to get all the gears. works great but no lock out yet. since the arm still moves side to side i want to make a gated plate for it. briefly messed around with an idea for a plate but went on to somthing else instead. if i mounted it back a little more the concole would work( at the time wasn`t planning on using a concole) right now im using the oval boot and silver painted bezel w/ a 4" shifter handle and white shifter ball, looks and works great!!!

    I`ve found a 83 2+2 r180 cv setup and I was wondering if I could use the shafts for my r200 240z? I know they are too long but can they be modified some how? ( In one post someone modified some 300zx shafts by turning around a offset part to make them shorter)

     

    Do the r180 CV imputshaft spines differ from the r200 CV splines?

     

    anyone make new CV shafts? OR does anyone want to sell thier extra shafts?

  15. for my money i`d use a 8.5 gm rear over anything else. I think 12 bolts are very over rated seems they always blow out!!! while the 8.5 will take anything you can hand it!!!. Like mike c pointed out alot of cars are running good numbers with them. I only know chevy so I won`t comment on the fords rear but i do like the center section idea!

     

    Other chevy myths that are proven wrong over time...

    4 boltmain 350`s are stronger than 2 bolts....nope webs crack

    turbo400`s are stronger than turbo350`s ....nope T350`s far stronger and less power to turn ...powerglides are just as strong also!!!

    afterthought...stay away from pontiac and buick 10 bolts 8.5 they are very weak don`t really understanbd why since both makes put out high tq/hp numbers...they have a differnt cover than the chevy.
