  1. I`m in the prosses of a full cage and frame rail reconstruction project for my 240z and am considering a solid rear conversion while it`s in the air. I`m soon going to get a 2006 rule book but until then my daydreams are getting the better of me!!

I`ve read old posts about what the rules are for back in 2002, about what times you can run before your required to change over. And the rules aren`t clear about what to do whit the datsun setup.

Since then factory cars are much faster now in 2005 then in 2002 and NHRA changed the rollbar/cage rule to adjust for that. Also Sport compact cars have come into play as the times on them are also up!!!

I know the strength of the R200 setup from seeing quite a few members here running unbelevable times on the it.

My question is what times were you forced by NHRA rules to change over to the soild rear? 10.99? never? 2004,05, now 2006?

I should state that my car is becoming a race car only and I`d like to play in the early 10`s and dabble in the 9`s if the rules allow.

  2. The pin broke on me also at 114mph. Luckly the ring gear keeps the pin from going only so far(other wise I would have been in deep doo doo). I had some damage to the pinion gear but nothing I would worry about. I thought about welding it up but the gearing was do deep any way (3:90) so I just changed it out.

  3. Ask her if this is too much to have since i`m single and don`t get yelled at (told) on a regular basis.

    At this moment I own:

    1 68 nova, owned 18 yrs

    2 72 datsun 240z stock

    3 73 datsun 240z sbc

    4 94 s10 SS model

    5 05 Victory Vegas 8-ball motorcycle

6 72 chevy C30 wrecker (tow truck) just bought for 500 bucks w/19k miles on it, near perfect body and original spark plug wires.

They`re like shoes to a woman you need one for every occasion!!!

  4. Thanks for the replys to the thread, I decided i`m just going to shoot for the 10`s ...and 9`s on NOS every now and then.

Since my track strickly follows the NHRA rules, I would have to change to a solid rear the faster I went, so I`m just going to bite the bullet and change over. I love the IRS system, I think it`s what gives the car one of it`s many charms, but for safety sake there`s just too many things that could go wrong for a system that wasn`t designed for 1/4 mile abuse, even though it`s stout enough to handle the power.

One positive note is, I`ll feel more confident launching wheel stands with a solid rear backing me up, and if I do put in my 4sp setup I think a 9" has a better chance of holding up to the shock factor.

  5. I`ve recently noticed 3 hybridz cars maybe more launching with the front tires hanging ( I forget the technical term) two of these cars have the irs system still in use. Needless to say I am blown away by this and would like to also achieve this in my own car.

This winter I`m already planning on a cam change but am unsure if I should go with a 10" converter or putting the Richmond super T10 out of my nova into the z since It will be laying around during resteration anyway.

Also I`m planning on welding one of the two rears I have a 3:54 or 3:90

And thinking of experimenting with NOS also 125-150 shot.

I`m a little conflicted right now because I just found a local AutoX club that I would also like to try but I know the welded rear and 10" stall wouldn`t allow me to perticapate in this but the 4sp would. Although I still have my stock 240z to do the AutoX but the v8 one would be more fun.

Any ideas on a well rounded car that can do wheel stands off the line in the 1/4?

  6. It`s the same suspension they use for thier Pro T car which is basicly a street legal race car. The wishbone connector mounted from the frame to the rear is adjustable for track conditions so no bars or conventional leafspring traction devices are needed.

The springs are short and would probably give a hard ride. But my thinking behind all the 9" questions are for dragracing purposes.

A friend of mine bought a t-bucket kit from them and was very happy with the quality of the kit he bought. I have trailer springs in the back of my truck right now for a future project from a 3000lb boat trailer and there is no way they could be subsituted for automotive use, so I think trailer springs are not an issue here.

To me it looks like a good kit with a fair price. comes with everything even a a narrowed 9" rear and axles. Add brakes and a center section and hit the track.

  7. in dragracing it was the thing before stall converters. Fairbanks was the last to make the setup for an automatic with a clutch setup.

there`s another version of it in dirt track racing, where there is a solid coupling in place of the converter and the clutch pedal works a "dump Valve" in the trans valve body. Basicly when you depress the clutch pedal the valve opens and "dumps " the line pressure. relese the pedal and pressure returns.

when I looked into it a few yrs ago, I was told it wouldn`t work well for dragracing because the trans needs the tourqe multiplacation of the converter for lunching off the line.

  8. I`m getting ready to make my 240z into basicly just a dragcar with driving to and from the track only.

one of the projects I want to do is remove the brake booster and datsun M/C and replace it with a nova drum brake M/C.

The main reason is I`m making a simple style fenderwell header and the datsun unit would be in the way ,not to mention the resivors are plastic.

I`m thinking a nova drum M/C would work because I still have the stock calipers on front and the M/C is sized for wheel cylinders so the volume should be close.

Has anyone put the M/C inside the car? Like the 55 chevy under the dash kit?

just doing research for now. I ran a search and didn`t come up with info I was looking for.

    Thanks,

    Mark

  9. 2866 miles and the 05 Victory 8 ball didn`t skip a beat, and with the stock seat even!!!

Left from Wilmington,DE thru Gettysburg,PA down to Shannondoa National Park in VA and the Skyline dr. thru to the BlueRidge Parkway in NC until the 300mi marker.

Then headed south to Charlette,NC then Savannah,GA all on back roads. Then I95 into Jacksonville, FL from there to RT1 thru St. Augustine and Daytona beach and finally to vist familly in Orlando for 4 days.

When leaving took RT50 to I75, (which I75 IMHO is not motorcycle friendly) with a rest break at Don Garlets Dragracing Museum in Ocala,FL! (which was a bonus becaulse I forgot all about it being there!!)

Back home on I95 until Richmond,VA where 301 was the road of choice into Annapolis,MD where there was (I assume) a Navy Graduation going on with what looked like 4 of the Blue Angel F-18 fighter jets buzzing the city in formation for what seemed like forever (yet another unexpected bonus!!)

Then the ride home into DE in the pouring RAIN and COLD!!!! That was the longest most miserable part of the trip! I just wanted to get home!!!!

But up until that moment it was a great trip!!!

  10. Can the stock rear coilsprings be used up front?

I`m selling my stock 240z this spring and I have to do the struts. The front springs on the car now are from another make car entirely (previous owner was setting it up for a v8) so needless to say the front sits high. I was going to cut the coils but I have a rear strut (280z) set in the junk pile from a rear change and I was thinking I could use those springs instead of cutting the ones on the car.

    Anyone know?

    Thanks,Mark

  11. Looks good! I have a couple questions though....

#1....I`m wondering why you decided to go with a Mustang 8.8 instead of a ford 8" or 9" diff?.

I ask only because a solid rear is my next step, and since the speed experimenting is never really quite done, the 8 and 9 " carriers offer easier multable gear changes for whatever conditions you want to run.

#2....What is your hub to hub distance and who made up your rear. I was looking at what S&W had to offer.

  12. I noticed the cycle shows on the Discovery channel didn`t wear welding goggles/helmet when using a plasma cutter. I always thought you needed one. I have found it frustrated not beeing able to see the line I want to cut, however I don`t want welders flash. Do you need the tinting protection?

  13. I think he jumped the Fence of Mexico and ran through the woods to grandma`s house. Where he bought a nice pristine silverish blue honda civic. Or it was his Grandma ma`s with only 22,000 miles on the odometer which she only drove to church and bingo functions. It only needed in his words "laud muflors and iligthment". After that he thought it should have a kickin sound system so off to Kmart for a $65 kraco system w/speakers and an "amflapire" and an alarm to protect his investment. Sadly his civic was "stoling twice" and they " stoling twice" his kickin system. And since he`s been driving without insurance, there was no way to issue a claim to recoupe his $130 + alarm investment.

That`s when he got inspired by Pimp My Ride. So off to Pep Boys he went for some, "tailighs a rare tailights, alarm, seat covered and also more infos. a little bet parts" and while he was there he remembered his "Crx has a little bet bandos on it" so 12 cans of black primer went into the cart. On the way to checkout he noticed a SALE sign that read "inluding this rims fet in on any hondas crx, civic,HONDA PRELUDE,accord and mors " he though Hmmm they fit a HONDA PRELUDE,man now that`s pimp`n!

14hrs later he`s got his "tailighs a rare tailights","seat covered and also more infos" along with that flat black primer paint job, that gives the car that lowdown No Fear look we all desire. You`d think our hero is on cloud 9 right about now. Nope, He was but not right now. See remember when you just do too much in a short amount of time and things just start to back fire on you?

Well he hooked up his alarm incorectly. He tried to read the instuctions but everything was just spelled wrong and made no sense to him, so he kept blowing fuses until the "check ingine but no worries just wiring problems" light stayed on. Well this won`t pass CA inspection better get it looked at. So now everything is now""hey no problems is fix" runs good realy good laud muflors ". Until he sees a 3000gt and realizes after the $14,000 in parts and $1200 he paid for the car, plus the $2200 in storage fees from when it kept getting stolen "twice". His time with the little CRX civic just wasn`t giving him the props he wanted. So that`s what lead him to write the ad as we know it. Maybe next time he`ll let his 6 yr old sister proof read the ad. Only one can hope!

Got to give him credit. His english is mixed up and spelled wrong but it`s more than what most "illegal immigrants" would do.

Naw i`d bet he`s a product of our fine education system. My guess college grad.

    "laud muflors and iligthment"

("title/ Salvage") "now i'm buying 3000 GT if you have 3000GT i'll trade it for you i'll pay the rest also trading for honda hatch back, Pontiac or 1989 crx black "tille clean"
