  1. Wow am I good...I estimated a 19 in the quarter with the Hakosuka and I ran a 18:72 at 70 MPH. 2.64 60, 11:50 at 58 eighth...I am now offically the slowest street car in San Angelo hahahahaha.

Been getting tons of comments on the car..anything from "Is that a RAMBLER? to Nice strectched B510 (hahahah) to "Sweet Nova Chevy II" oh and yesterday a guy said sweet buick!!! Alot of people do know what it is though, I had alot of fun driving if it werent for the 102 HP thing....hehe.

    Engine:

    L20 2 liter 102 HP

Header and Holley 600 with AZ intake

    4 speed and R200

Just needed a start to compare the gains when I get started. I already got a 5 speed tranny in the storage waiting. NOw to find a nice 3 liter L28 or a 3.1 Decided to keep it NISSAN instead of cutting it up.

  2. Pics??

Theres some pics in my picture trail album below. Ill upload the time slip when I get back to Japan. I noticed that the torque felt like it went down when I added the header. Probably better to not have a header on the two liter stock engine without any head work. Ahhhh its getting pulled anyways....who cares....hehehehe.

  7. So what does it really cost to get a car shipped from Japan?

Hey guys chiming in. Hi Mike. Mine was $3200 for shipping plus $400 Jap customs fee to get it to Cali. Its on its way to Texas now for another $2500. Once it hit Cali, American customs and transpo fees add up. So Mike was right a little over $5000 to Texas for the Hakosuka. American President LInes is the one I used to ship. Prices are up due to fuel prices Im sure. used to be about $1200 for a 20 foot container a few years back.

  8. hey Terry. Still hittin the gym? How are things?

Ummm...The motor is out of '06 corvette and has 13,000 miles on it. I picked it up for $2600 shipped, minus the ECU and pedal assembly. After much searching, i came across a t56 + clutch and fly for $1,000...All in all, i feel like $3600 for a 13,000 mile ls2 and t56 is a pretty good deal :-)

Wholly Molly!!! Id say thats a great deal! If only I can get so lucky when it comes time. That will be one sweet swap! Im still in the gym but starting to have those damn joints problems from all the years of heavy lifting...oh well adapt and over come I guess...hehe.

  9. After much debate, i really like the idea of going carbed on the ls2. Plan is as follows:

GMPP single plane manifold (unless i get another recommendation?)

    MSD 6Ls-2 ignition

    Custom built carb.

So, that being said, i have about another $1,000-1,200 that i can afford to spend on the engine. What do you think the best bang for the buck would be? Porting heads? New CNC L92 heads? Cam only?

I'm looking for about 400-450 at the wheels to use in autox, spirited mountain driving, etc.

How much did you get your engine for? Im planning on the same thing...

  10. Hi all, I'm new to the site and was referred from Zeroyon and MattK to find some support for my 280ZX buildup. I agree I am also interested in any good aftermarket suspension, diff, and brake swaps. I'm also in a bit of a bind with the 2+2 body but don't really think there is much difference from a 2 seater suspension except for spring rates? Anyways, I am looking for big brake swap parts, suspension parts, and rear stub and diff upgrades. On top of all that also looking for some good 16" or 17" lightweight aftermarket rims that will fit without spacers. I know you all have some good info on this stuff and would really really appreciate it. I will also be posting up some parts I have available from the engine swap.

Search and you shall be set free my brother!

  11. Hi Guys,

I'm going to the JY tomorrow. If I find a CLSD R200, what's the best way to remove it, and what tools does a bum like myself need?

    Sockets? Sizes? Johnson-bar? Ratches? Cro-bars?

    Thanksssssszszzszsz!

If I rememebr correctly at a minmum youll need a 14MM socket (front cross member and bolt that connects the front of the diff to the cross member), two 12mm wrenches (drive shaft bolts front and nut side, and axle nuts/bolts) these maybe 14mm but I believe they are 12mm. The nuts on the rear of the diff that holds them into the mustache bar is a 21 or 22mm socket if I remember correctly. Now I dont know what type of axles are on the diff your getting but just make sure you have the usual 10-22MM sockets and a couple of 12,14mm wrenches and maybe a 17mm wrench, a screw driver and youll be fine. All of this is meant for a S30 so S130 or above Im not sure.

  12. for my 81(actually its a 78n/a motor but turbo parts from a 81) turbo motor im using the 78 4spd I have, im not using the auto that the 81 came with unless I can build that some how... anyway any one have experience on breaking these 4spds on a stock l28et? maybe some advice on how much I can or can not beat up on this tranny would help, I have a t5 from a 85 turbo Z maybe I can use if or when it breaks, would just need a bell housing ive heard... I kind of think that since the car is light it will be easier on the tranny but I have no experience with the 4spds.

Also I am using a stock 78 2+2 clutch(which I read is what the stock turbo uses also, size wise). I dont really have any money and can only leave the car in pieces or put it together and hope it all wont break or slip...

I used to break the stock trannies and the R180 diffs all the time back in the 80s. But then it was only 5000 yen ($50) to replace them from the junkyard in Okinawa. They didn't like continual clutch drops and will go sooner or later after continual abuse.

  13. I'm very jealous... I can't wait to get out of school and travel and buy cars.

Congrats on a nice purchase. Do you have any pics?

Yes sir! There are a few on the MY PROJECTS page. Itll be awhile till I start restoring it and ofcoarse I have to come up with the ideas of what I want to do to it etc....whew!
