True to my word, I've organized the meet in full. Please leave a comment and/or donation on my site (below) so I have an idea of who's showing up, and invite as many fun people as you can think of to join us ([single] ladies especially). If there are any questions, concerns, or suggestions, send me an email at drummingpariah 'at' gmail.com. If you don't know how to get to Anza, email me and I'll send you detailed directions and give you my cell number so you'll be sure to make it. Looking forward to seeing you all there! Here's the link for the official info: http://car.scrapper-site.net/news/berkeley-ca-meetup/ Please, please, please, leave a comment if you're coming, and if you aren't going to bring anything, donate $5 (or whatever you can afford) so I can pick up supplies ahead of time.

That just means that it's a healthy engine If you need an engine, I'll give you my strong l24 when I swap it for the l28et if you pay for shipping from Cali. I also know someone with a spare l28 in NH who would part with it pretty readily. The l6 is one of the best platforms to work on, and it's dead simple so there are only so many things that'll go wrong. You have wide tolerances of abuse that it'll just shrug right off, and parts are easily/cheaply upgraded to lighter/stronger/faster/newer components. Or you could go with a small block ford/chevy. Want to talk about reliable?

You don't like the dog more than the car? At least the dog RUNS!

We apparently have blogs over here now. Although I already have one here: http://car.scrapper-site.net (URL subject to change) I'm curious to see how the vBulletin blog system works. Here's post #1! I purchased an s30, which was supposed to be delivered today but has been postponed due to technical difficulties. It should show up tomorrow, if all goes well. Basics: 72 240z l24, bad starter (at least) stock 5spd stock r180 stock brakes flat black (except for rust spots) a pair of rust issues bolt-on roll bar 4 flat tires no seats broken headlights stock wiring no title (no information at all in the DMV database for the past 7 years) Immediate plans (this week): Install this pile of parts: with different wheels for those tires (you'll see) Install my new(to me) l28et (anybody have suggestions, threads I should read, or sites I should visit before diving in?) Inspect the clutch and address the immediate problem of it not engaging Inspect the brakes and address immediate problems Inspect suspension and address immediate problems Change all the fluids everywhere Bolt down the roll cage Get a Xenon/BRE front end for it (if you know someone who's selling one, LET ME KNOW!) Re-route the ignition wiring so I don't have to have a key made. I don't like keys, by and large. I've been thinking about exhaust, and would like some input. Should I do a single side-dump through the driver's side fender or run something all the way back to a motorcycle can or two? Pics of my $500 project to come as soon as it's here. (yes, this was in the members projects area, but I forgot other people can't post there)

I just saw that article and immediately thought: "I know that dog!" I say ditch the hood, leave the front end naked, chop-top it, and call it a rat rod.

I couldn't agree with her goals more. It's a gorgeous car, it was gorgeous from the factory, and it's a good idea to leave gorgeous as it is. The wrong modifications on the right car are like plastic surgery on a gorgeous girl. Keep it clean and I'll just keep appreciating it. Also, I totally dig the septum. Just got mine pierced last week. I'd missed that "new piercing smell".

Sorry mate, was reading at work which sometimes (often) means that I'm skimming, trying to catch the major points of a thread. Now that I've read it, I support it! Well, there isn't really a reason not to I suppose. I just don't see a compelling reason to go to all the extra work/expense for ITBs when a decent plenum performs just as well on a forced induction engine. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there's actually a performance gain there.

Somewhat serious street build
Jesse OBrien replied to Jesse OBrien's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
Well, I placed my seats and harnesses in today, but didn't have time to bolt anything up or get pictures (it was really late). I'll see what I can do about getting some taken and sent to me today, it's starting to take on the appearance of a real car, finally. -
Let's see some pictures, and I highly suggest gathering all your parts BEFORE starting the project. Car projects are especially susceptible to what's called "feature creep" in the software development world, where you keep adding things "while you're in there". Get to version 1.0, button it up, and plan out your version 2.0 after that.

Somewhat serious street build
Jesse OBrien replied to Jesse OBrien's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
Oh, I've already cut out the floor, getting it welded up again once it's driving. There's cardboard over it right now, so nothing flies up into my face when I fire it up. And no, none of this is for the ignition. The knife just happened to come in on the same shipment as the clutch master and slave cylinder. I'll still have to pick up a hydraulic line and bend it into place, but if all goes reasonably well I could be driving (illegally) tonight! Yes. I blame you. -

New delivery! Woohoo! Maybe it'll run tonight? -
I was just thinking that. Why take an l28et to build for NA? Or, if you're looking at the opposite argument, why put ITBs on a turbo motor? Absolutely love the build quality all-around though. Looking forward to more.

Looking forward to seeing where this ends up. Subscribed.

Longer wheel studs for 76 280z
Jesse OBrien replied to Comrade_Charlie's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
And that's even for a set of 5! I need new studs, I might just drop the $40 and get a full set of these. -
Longer wheel studs for 76 280z
Jesse OBrien replied to Comrade_Charlie's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I don't see a problem with wheel spacers, they're essentially the same as having wheels with more offset (metal that makes the wheels stick out a little more, except that they weigh slightly more.) Measure the threads of your wheel studs, and you should be able to get a direct-replacement here: http://www.pdm-racing.com/products/misc_tune.html -
1974 260Z track car. Ground Up.
Jesse OBrien replied to MoNkEyT88's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
I can't even sum up all the things that make this picture perfect. Do me a favor and walk with a cane from now on, so it's easier to follow your footsteps. -
I had gone down there in the red one, but only once. It was quite an interesting ride (the suspension in that car was very special. I don't have it any more, now I've got my black one and it's coming along very very slowly. This is a pretty great time to own a Z, lots of fun meets coming up in the near future

s130 Master Cylinder in an S30
Jesse OBrien replied to Jesse OBrien's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
Since I lack a welder and have a spare s130, I may just see if the s130 pedals fit in the s30 chassis. -
I really wish I had some pics on hand, but I guess a description will have to do. I just put an s130 clutch master cylinder in my s30 to replace the VERY badly bent and seized one that came in the car. After I had everything bolted up, the shaft just kind of ... fell out ... of the master cylinder, and it really isn't even long enough to reach the pedal. Is the shaft in the s130 MC shorter than in the s30 MC? Does anybody know what the shaft length actually is?
-
I'm looking forward to an update on this, and some more detailed pictures.
-
Also note that there are two s2000 motors, the f20c (ap1) and the f22c (ap2).

Pretty useful info. Got any pics of the exhaust? I'm curious to see what it's like. Also, welcome to hybridz!

My Little CAD Project
Jesse OBrien replied to Kirby260's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
If we keep going with this, can we license it under Creative Commons? I think version 2.0 is my favorite thus far. Having a complete model of the chassis that's stress-test-able could very well bring the s30 back into the limelight. Recently, I've been seeing a lot of FITs driving around and it saddens me. -

Oh, did I forget to tell you guys that it runs? Hopefully I'll have video to share this weekend.
