  1. Thanks man and awesome avatar:lol I've been on GSXR's for the last two liters but I had a 600rr that was to be the track tramp so to speak... I've sold off the last bike to pay for this build so we'll see how far 5 grand doesn't get me
  2. Hi fellas and it's great to be back on Hybrid Z, like the new look too. I've got a clean 77 that I was hesitant to chop up so it's been in storage for too long. Starting to gather a few parts so I suppose this can be my build thread. Ideas are definitely going in the LSx department and I have spent the last year lurking over on tech. I'm going for street bruiser and will not conform to any race rules so it's as rough as I wish. Just a heads up when making your comments on what is street and what is race only, my DD for the past few years have been 1000cc sport bikes so I can live with a bit more than the average fella. Round one will be a few months of body work and yanking the 2.8 Thanks for any advice and criticism is always welcomed. pics soon RK
  3. Another potential road block... The T-45 is showing an integrated bellhousing for the modular ford, it appears that Keisler has over come this with a new front plate. I'm open to ideas here and I'm sourcing cores to take apart so all info is appreciated fellas.
  4. Just got off the phone with Keisler and they will not sale the input shaft separately but they were more than happy to sale me one of their transmissions for 1300+shipping... Who ever figures this one out wins 1000 internets from me Also, it appears I may be mistaken on which years the T-45 was in the mustang because running down cores it seems that they ran until 2002
  5. Well they were put in every mustang 5 spd from 99 on in the new edge cars so there are plenty of used one's running around.
  6. I posted this in the LSx specific part of the forum and thought it deserved a thread in here also... Keisler has been taking reman T-45's and swapping in a GM length/spline input shafts... Does anyone know where, other than Keisler, that we can score these? With the hardened input shafts that are 26 spline they have an advertised torque capacity of 425 lbft. This would do my little high winding V8 perfectly without the added weight and costs of the pricey T-56 not to mention perhaps a more desirable set of ratios. Thanks in advance guys
  7. Keisler has them, with the popularity of the LS platform and many of us wanting 425lbft torque capacity but none of the weight and especially the cost of a T-56, this trans will fit the bill perfectly. 1st gear may be too deep, somebody please chime in on the ratios by all means. My main question is this, where is keisler getting these things and why don't I have one now!! Thanks in advance guys
  8. Just a thought Braap; I have seen on another LS1 Z32 build where the owner was using a Holden pan... I'm not sure if you've considered this or not just throwing info out there and he did not host pics of his pan, just stated that's what he's using I've been trying to find a pic for you with little results, my searching can be so-so.. Hope this helps RK
  9. Looks like your in business with this, get us up a group dicount pls!!!! saw that thing n bout lost it!!
  10. ^^ The chop saw worked fine with the right blade and this was on 1/16" tube for food product lines same as exhaust but polished inside. Just clean up with rat tail and purge before welding, very simple and it works.
  11. we had one of those cheapo's from harbor with our demo derbey stuff and never had one issue, crazy huh? The new dewault is nice but the regular Milwaukee Super is still the standard IMHO. When we have to cut a line of tubing in the plant we also use saw-blocks. A saw-block wraps around your tube by a clamshell design with both sides of the block fixed shut with vicegrips ans 1/16" slot to just get a sawzall blade in, very handy.
  12. Back in the day before we had George Fisher radial saws strait from the Germans we used an ordinary chop saw....The craftsman one they have on sale for $100 would do you just fine if your only running 3". Its all in the cut-off wheel your using if your cutting tubing. Go to your towns best steel retailer/wholesaler and tell 'em what your up to and what you need---wheel to cut steel tube-- total cost about $30. That simple pm me if you want some tips on fitting tubing, this is more difficult to do right than I thought before fittin' pipe. Good luck RK
  13. Nice on that fit Colt, and I'm still amazed you tig'd that with a Harbor Freight machine! I'm totally ripping you off when I do mine and imitation is the highest form of praise sir, good luck on the tune. What wall thickness tubing are using on the hot side, I think I've missed it, thx.
  14. Very cool, once again I am a pipefitter so yall feel free to ask any Q's you want and youll get an honest professional opinion and I'm sure as hell not afraid to tell you "I dont know" would love to help! Nice beads too man. You never said why you didnt invert the truck manifolds? I know I saw that on ls1 tech. Thanks again...
  15. Very nice sir, I enjoyed looking at your build before but damn! $330 shipped is a smokin deal, why not run two? I am a pipefitter and can appreciate your work but why not invert truck manifolds? I'm lurking right now in and out til I feel comfortable with a direction for the project and this is very close to what I have scketched around so keep us posted and good luck!
  16. Welcome to welding but I must warn you that UV light does something to your brain lol. The best starter to welding is your local welding supply store and ask who has the best vocational programs and practice on the schools welders and materials.... Its best to get lots of training before buying your own machine or you run a great deal of risks on your equipment. If you must buy a welder, Miller is the best, just try and flame me on that internet welders rotfl... They just came out with the "Deversion 165" TIG and it will do AL, SS, carbon steel, Titanium, as long as you dont go over 1/4" on your stock..
  17. Great man that sounds awesome. Watch your friend whos proficient and get yourself 15 hours on that torch and youll knock 'em out! Your speed and uniformity all come with hrs and hrs of welding, I still have a ton to learn and I Tig 4 hrs of everyday most weeks RK
  18. Very nice, any progress reports? I'm also a pipefitter by trade and doin somewhat of the same build up minus the full tube frame, im doing the 10pt cage and suspension. That is a bonafied steal on an econotig, all I use is miller and they have one in the plant's shop: im subcontracted. I've used it many times and does very well for the price range. That machine will do any steal you would like, enjoy!! RK
  19. Yes side lifts are dangerous but renting one is cheap and depending on height you want to lift without using at least a two post anything is very dangerous IMHO. You said that you had a few long screw jacks i would use the lift then secure each corner with those would be the hot ticket. Good luck and be safe Sir RK
  20. ^^^ No prob Dayz Im glad I could finally contribute something to the site instead of all the questions I have!!! Your on your own on the Mig, I never went to trade school and received OTJT with Tig only. I can tell you that the reason they are using a mig and there may be 2. First a Mig is very fast and suits medium to large scale production apps because of the afore mentioned effeciency in moving out product. Number two would be the possibilty of using robotic welders wich are Mig only on the most part... I can tell you that if Mig was better for doing SS tube I could tell you about that, but we only use Tig for a reason and thats control over your work. You just have so many more options and it is what the pros use. Come to the dark side Dayz, rent a Tig for the day and you wont turn back. Got ahead in fit it out and make your tacks and take your time on the fit, Im sure you will do fine either way you go and if you do go Mig remember to use trimix and another hint in purging is to have flow only NOT PRESSURE!! On the end of your tubing pplace masking tape over the end and leave about the size of a pushpin open for your purge flow. On 2-1/2 or 3" set your regulator on about 20-25, hope this helps a little and have fun Sir and take your time for best results RK
  21. I say try and make them!!! How are yours, and his if he'll help fab skills? This is only an intermediate task as far as fab goes, he may be talking about time involved cuz its a ton of work but not at all undoable by any means. Tip: Find a guy with a wide metal break like ones used for ducting, and bring him too if you can lol!! Let me know how this goes im finally gonna chop up my nice 77 been sittin' on for awhile and im thinkin of goin the fab route. Off-topic as hell but what do stock pans go for cut out? high and low pls? Good luck man if you buy aftermarket, Im not sure on the datsun but everthing else I've got from my LT4 vette to a 69 beetle have been less than crappy. RK
  22. Dayz I have the answer to your question. Before I give the answer I will tell you that I am a pipe-fitter by trade and work in a milk plant that has hundreds of miles of only SS tubing. SS is what I do everyday for a long time. Those welds HAVE to be purged if you wouldnt like the whole weld to"sugar" on the inside that the rookies can't see. I strongly recommend that you dont MIG this, try Tig you'll love it. Just rent one for the day. Get your exaust "fit out", and you can tack w/ Mig but I would strongly recommend tig, because if you make good cuts and file them with a SS only file BTW, you will use much less filler wire. On filler wire use prob ER308L, someone correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure thats the most common for SS tube... If you have to use a mig your going to purge with TRIMIX, look it up or you can just go rent a bottle n tell that to the supplier, they'll know. Used with a tig.... Don't purge SS with anything other than pure Argon, also SS should be Tig welded IMHO. Anything less has forfeiture of control and once you practice an hour on a tig you'll get it enough to practice on your tube, just buy a little extra. Anymore q's feel free to PM, home after 1600 Central. Good luck!!! RK
  23. hes right about the ramp idea, but if i may offer my opinion.. Rent one of those single-sided hydraulic lifts
  24. OF course and the pics will be there step by step. I've finally got garage space again so project commencing will have first pics soon. I'M also an engineering student and very interested in grafting C5 suspension pieces and such. BTW the channel will be a custom lower chassis if i can pull it off, just take some time but rest assured I'm adamantly searching these threads. Figure I'll bug Y'all while I'm tearing it down, Thanks for all your help in advance. Rk
  25. ... Duely noted sir. I humbly apologize for my lack of professionalism as I must profess only until now have I found one forum that handles some regulation of cinduct. Its refreshing to say the least and once again I apologize. P.S. I am a pipefitter by trade and a mechanics son, and this is my first swap so any and all input is welcome ive been lurking in the forums trying to decide which car to build and theres a nice 77 parts car of mine that needs some 5.3 turbo theropy and a nice frame and cage. Most of my questions are of the fesabiltl of runnin chanel through the uni-body to the front reat mounts and the pans as well. I'm searching feverishly so once again all advice is welcome. Thankyou for your time, Rk
