  1. Please forgive my ignorance but how does this compare to Megasquirt? Cheaper? I am about to swap in a stock ecu turbo setup and I'm sure I will be looking for an alternative control scheme shortly thereafter
  2. To answer my question for posterity: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=86552&highlight=ecu Note the date on that post... was probably one of the first 20 posts on the turbo forum
  3. Nice. It sounds like it'll hold me over for quite some time.
  4. Anybody tried this behind something hotter than stock? I too need a flywheel and this seems like a good way to get one but I'm headed for 250ish rwhp so maybe tracking down a stock 240mm flywheel and hd clutch would be better?
  5. I know 81's are different but is there any difference between an 82 and an 83 ecu? I have an 82 stock turbo setup but I'm missing the ECU so does it matter if it's 82 or 83 and does it matter whether it's from an auto or 5 spd?
  6. For what it's worth, my rebuilt York compressor says it's for 134 or 12. I already bought it ($80 rebuilt on ebay) so I'll try it and if it doesn't work then it can go on my Bronco and run air tools Then again, a turbo 280zx did just show up in my yard and I bet it has a compressor on it
  7. Weird, there must be a post on hybridz stating that raising the seats adds 5 hp because my seats are jacked up a couple inches as well!? Glad to see you've made it to the finer details... I just scored a turbo 280zx today so I'm suddenly overwhelmed all over again
  8. Part # 4102 at AutoZone... $13.99! I just happened to find this on their website when looking for a drier for my 93 Bronco. Coincidentally, I've never seen a drier like that on a 90's Ford but it is identical to the one in my 74 260z with the exception that it doesn't have a sight glass. You can't beat that price and the label on it says it works for r12 or r134a. It is special order and they will have a little trouble looking it up but it's in there. You can also order it online (use 93 Bronco w/5.8L w/ dealer AC). Free shipping if you make $75 and if you're like me it's no problem spending $75 at a parts store
  9. You might want to make some friends in the mech. engr. dept as well, they have a full on machine shop and a few guys who really know how to use the machines. Looking good. Hope you're not working in the sun in 101 degree heat like I was... glad I'm done! Now to get the a/c working
  10. Yeah, it's the original 4-speed that came behind the L26. Speedo jumps all over the place but I'd say 3100 rpm is about 65 mph. I am keeping my eyes peeled for a 81-83 NA 280zx 5 speed since it bolts in and is good for 25% overdrive. Big Phil has a NA tranny holding 400 rwhp so it should hold my 120 rwhp just fine It's just a matter of finding one nearby. I see lots of z31 cars in the yards here but few s130 cars but I'm sure something will eventually come up... hopefully before gas hits $5 / gal!
  11. Nice progress! I had the same issue with the swaybar end links but I figured out if I put the bolt with the threads toward the ground I could wedge a board under the body and lever down on top of the bolt head, which compresses the bushings enough to get the nut started. Not as "clean" underneath with the threads sticking down but no big deal. You have a way to machine that bellhousing? I've been eyeing the 240sx tranny swap mainly because turning 3100 rpm on the highway sucks! Also, if I go turbo 2.8 I'll have the beef I need already. There's one at the Upullit here in LR that I'm tempted to pull. I parked the Z a couple weeks ago because I had the windows down and I could hear a bearing spinning... in the middle of swapping rear wheels bearings right now so I hope to end my Z withdraw tomorrow! Keep trucking... good luck
  12. That'll only take a few minutes I was ready to throw the Z off an I540 bridge about half way through that ordeal, and my spindle pins even came out without a puller!
  13. Cool, I've got my popcorn out waiting to see this "finished"! Have you found any S30's in junkyards in NWA? Down here in LR all I find are Z31's (no LSD r200's yet, though). Oh, yank that diamond plate off and go get an antique one... looks pretty cool and you never have to renew it! Best $14 I've ever spent.
  14. Miles, props on the 5.3L swap! I'm assuming you're running a factory ECM... what did you do about getting rid of VATS? Did you buy a harness or modify a stock one? I may have found a deal on a 5.3/4l60e combo complete so we may have another 530Z here very soon Oh, and did I hear you say you used factory camaro exhaust manifolds instead of block hugger headers? Have any pics of how you modded them?
  15. Ok, I may try this with the truck intake and custom mounts and if it doesn't fit then LS1 intake it is. Another question. I've searched everywhere and can't figure out one simple thing. Are block hugger headers required for the 5.3 and 6.0 swaps? Are these engines considered SBC in the general sense or is that reserved for the old 350 stuff? Not too knowledgeable on Chevy engines.... are the heads the same dimensions as the Ls1/LT1?
