  1. Yes the clip under the tb is NOT bcdd on that car! It's your idle air controller. It does all the functions of the other three valves combined...
  2. I wonder if he ever did that lower for me... I told him to call when ready...
  3. How is there a difference between "factory" and "stock"? PS pump mounted like Aftermarket Air...
  4. I would make a comment, but it's so un-PC I would be banned...
  5. They don't have it, didn't have it, and that's that. No factory S30 Cruise Control (or power steering with hydraulic assist cylinders on the R&P!)
  6. No, you don't. You have a Z with a dealer-added cruise control unit. Same as the guy who brought me the 280Z with "factory power steering" ... Just because it's been on it for a while...or even has a logo on it does NOT mean it was installed inJapan. Show me the factory parts page supporting your part, and I'll eat it on video posted on YouTube! Nice photos on the ad, fishing has reached a new level.
  7. Didn't buy it eh? Hmmmm... I may have a cross-country trip in a Z repatriating right-to-left...
  8. Does the original post actually constitute trolling given the stated goals and philosophy of the site? (Not to mention the left front fender clearly states -- with an arrow pointing to them -- "I love SSR MK3" My bet is you google SSR (or Speed Star Racing) MK3 band you can find what you want in regards to the wheels which apparently you love so much. I got bigger, wider wheels on my car. But that was mainly because the turbo was making a bit more power than stock, and I needed traction. Not because someone told me it looked cool... It was something required for the power produced. Sure, when the turbo was off, I got by on 225's, and they looked totally dorky in the big flares. WTF do I care what someone else thinks about what my car LOOKS like, it's what was needed to work, and that's what went on it. Function>Form, period. And the reason it's old guys doing the work is becuase they got the money to do it. You will notice places like LeMans, Bonneville, etc... got a lot of 'fat old white guys' in charge of things. Hmmmm, wonder why that is? Let's change the world and make LeMans a styling contest. Then young kids would have a chance. My bet is the fat old white guys would simply go someplace else and continue doing what they were doing before without worrying about the approval of someone else...
  9. Well, it's gone political so... "it's like writing on paper" Gawd forbid someone take a note while driving. There are enough laws to enforce allready. Adding more will NOT make anything better. EDUCATION, not LEGISLATION. I can function fine talking on my celphone. Yeah, I've dropped it while talking to someone. No, it was not the end of the world, I did not duck down and try to frenzidly recover it. I was driving. Yeah, the other party called back. Several times. Since the phone was under the seat someplace (and I pretty much didn't care to risk trying to get it back it went unanswered...) I highly resent having my liberties restricted because some slack-jawed moron can't handle the simple task of carrying on a conversation as a secondary task while piloting a vehicle along an interstate freeway (or wherever...) Why not restrict them by ticketing THEM when they are seen weaving. Most places have 'inattentive driving' or 'failure to maintain lane' laws ALREADY on the books. Cite them for what they are DOING. I have a right to freely converse with whomever I so choose. I spend a lot of time in transit. These insane laws which limit an otherwise LEGAL activity because some can't figure out how to prioritize offend me. I'm not weaving. I'm not slowing 20mph in the fast lane to take the call. Why must I be held to a standard of the lowest common denominator yet again? Shouldn't driving be something we concentrate on EXCELLENCE, and not lowering the bar to the lowest common denominator? The interstate highway system isn't the autobhan, and I'm not taking calls at 150mph+. Cell Phone Laws exist because "Law Enforcement" apparently is too dense to interpret a law already on the books, and needs a simple 'check the box' offense to make their jobs easier. Then again, the more laws on the books, the easier it is to generate revenue. It's like the guy who slides off his Harley, under a concrete truck and gets crushed. Fatality gets checked as "no helmet worn"...like it would have prevented it. Same for the guy who dumps it and breaks his arm..."no helmet worn"... like it made any difference.
  10. "Still not crazy about the idea of a plastic tube not rated to fuel or pressure with an endless supply of fuel in the engine bay. Better pull that SU setup off, those fuel transfer tubes under the bowl to the jet bottom will pop at 7-10psi... They are vacuum rated tubes designed not to COLLAPSE, rather than not expand (which is what pressure-rated hoses are designed to do?) The tank venting issue usually rears it's head after someone decides to redo all their tank hoses in a 240 and actually gets a good seal. Then it starts doing things it never did before!
  11. Most heat containment schemes dealing with the turbo handle it by containing it to the turbine section. In the process, it lowers heat transfer to the water/oil side center section---which would actually increase lifetime. Thermal stress cracking and failure of turbos these days is a non-issue unless you have some serious fuel control problems (or timing)--in that case, it's the root cause, not putting ceramic or a blanket over it. What likely is being talked about is the increased corrosion, and heat induced warpage for manifolds, or headers. A lot of this can be traced to other factors, like using mild steel and wrapping with moisture absorbing wraps...really accelerates rust flaking and eventual failure. Jet-Hotting that same manifold before wrapping it will negate the previous problems. It's usually more a mis-application of the wrap than retention of heat in the component that causes the problems. MAnifold warpage can be due to many things, and people tend to blame it on whatever they can see first. If it's inherent in the component to begin with, getting it hotter can aggravate it, but then again keeping it wrapped to keep the heat in longer after shutdown adds to a stress-relief action which should fight warpage... But if you unevenly wrap it, and have exposed metal showing that can cool quickly... Again, misapplication root caused damage being blamed on the product itself. If you put in 'correctly applied' heat retention/blankets/wraps I would say it won't appreciably affect anything. In fact, due to the SLOWER thermal cycling after shutdown, one might argue that wraps PROLONG component life through less drastic changes while cooling.
  12. AND he's solo driving in and out of the HOV lane across the double yellows... (Not that celphone video submitted to the chief, detailing time, car number, etc. had any response or effect for that matter.)
  13. HEY! I sat on my ass in the Sun near the porta-johns for quite some time. Then I felt it was appropriate to move to the Summer Palace...
  14. Either swap the entire EFI system, or put an O2 sensor in (and check to see if it has a connector for a stepper-motor IAC)...You couldn't be more wrong about the ECU! Especially pre-82 as the JDM cars had O2 feedback from DAY ONE on the S130. The Japanese version EFI's were FAR advanced from what was in even California. My July 78 Produced S130 has O2 Sensor, as well as stepper motor IAC on it, and if that O2 Sensor is not connected and giving a proper switching signal like on an 82/83 US Model it will go pig rich 'limp home safe'. Someone probably specified an engine by model year, and being in NJ they gave them parts for a Federal Model...which didn't get an O2 Sensor till 81/82. Manifold is a direct fit, but no bung for the O2. Anything applicable to the 82/83 models in regard to the O2 Circuit testing/function is applicable to this car.
  15. Holding court in my usual location. "tankto jaabaa, dyno maaktoo!"
  16. Not battling crocodiles, green mambas, and rising floodwaters I can't. And that's not sarcasm, I'm serious!
  17. They only write the citation if you stop? Because I've never stopped to let them giver the citation... Catch22-don't stop!
  18. That Loctite can stick pretty well. And should someone have gotten the great idea to use "Liquid Metal" or even better believe the hype and "Save" a buggered pulley or keyway bore with JB WELD.(on cleaned metal!!!) good luck getting even a new pulley off by edge-grabbing. I've seen more than on pulley with chunks out of the edges from a failed attempt! Maybe the quality of automotive bottom-feeders is higher in the Atlantic NE... but here in SoCal stuff like this is all to common. And if they are getting repair advice from another Zcar board...the incidence of JB WELD application for a damaged pulley bore is dramatically higher!
  19. In before the lock... Plenty of information out there already, asking nothing that hasn't been asked and answered before, along with a belligerent attitude about it! Winning combo for sure! Best post ever!
  20. Given I've written on it extensively in the past I didn't know what else to do...
  21. Steering Wheel Puller here... Jawed pullers will (can) rip your v-grooved section clean off if the center hub has been properly affixed using RC608 cylindrical locking compound (loctite green, per "How to Modify") and not heated the center hub. Really, jawed pullers are incorrect for the application, and as mentioned above if you look in the FSM you will see a sketch of something very reminiscent of a steering wheel puller. Even a three-legged universal 'axle puller' kind will work if you have the bolts and washers. Thing to remember is to pull the HUB (which is the CENTER) and not on any of the PULLEYS. You put Elastomer of the dampner in shear in it's thinnest cross-section to concentrate forces of removing the hub... I have a LOT of nice "Posilock" pullers and after tearing off several pulley sections in junkyards... I got the steering wheel puller for under $9 and haven't looked back since.
  22. Searching my posts may uncover something... It's not an original thought by far. Tried and true.
  23. JeffP made more than that on a stock manifold ... In fact, he discarded the tubular manifold he had and went back to a stock (ported) Nissan cast iron manifold as the passages internally were larger and it didn't warp uncontrollably. Nissan manifold, modified for external wastegate...650+Hp
