They dont work? I must be extremely lucky. I found an autometer monster tack in my garage a few weeks ago. I didnt know I would need it. sweet

Sweet looking car! Just out of curiosity, why were you looking for a running car if you are going to swap an RB into it? Im actually jealous of your 240z, I couldnt find one so I went with a 280z and am stuck with those horrendous bumpers and such. Welcome to Hybridz! Would you mind sharing where in California you are from? It would be cool to have an RB-Z socal group or something of the sort.

Ill take everyone that looks similar and "pocket em" then post my results.

You can make a 240z 4wd but it places the engine really far to the front and its not a very sensible thing to do. You have to mount the radiator on the other side of the core support and theres no clearance for a fan or anything like that. It also majorly throws off the balance of the car seeing as youll have more weight on the front end. I personally would not reccomend doing this because after all the work and money you put in you get a "half ass" result which is really not worth the 4wd in my opinion.

Sweet thanks! Im going to head to the junk yard here pretty soon so ill keep an eye out. Thanks for the info on A/C related sensor, I wont even bother because I took off everything that related to A/C to free up the engine a bit.

Got my harness back from McKinney and boy is it pretty! I got the correct driveshaft finally! She fits like a charm! I discovered that my clutch master cylinder has a leak somewhere and a friend of mine had a spare so he gave it to me. I can confirm that a K&N HP-2008 oil filter will work for an RB25DET as most people know. I put in an order for a fuel pump and that should be on be coming sometime. Completed drivetrain in all its glory: Box -o- Wiring Harness: Clearer view: Clutch master cylinder: Oil Filter: The most ghastly looking bumper in the history of automobiles. Going to use it temporary until I can get my hands on a JDM 240z bumper:

I have bought several parts from McKinney and I have been satisfied. Mac, the head guy there is helpful if you have questions. I would recommend them. I actually purchased the mount kit and have it installed, check my page in the members projects section (My $100 280z) if you want to see it. It fits absolutely perfectly. The transmission mount does not look like it'll fit at first but you have to beat in the tunnel a little bit. The driveshaft which I also bought from them is aligned perfectly and the engine sits right where it should for optimum weight distribution. Its a bit pricey but you get a really nice mount kit that places the engine right and not too far foward like some mounts do.

That would be great! Heres what Im missing: Thats the MAF sensor, its located on the throttle body. Im also missing the connector that plugs into this purple one (Im not really sure what it is haha, its located on the plenum towards the rear. If you happen em we could arrange something if you'd like, thanks a lot!

The only thing I have to sort out is how to step up the stock 2.5" piece of exhaust coming off the turbo. And Evan Purple, I would be interested in your sound clip if you can find the time :]

never mind guys I'm just gonna jury rig of with some silicon.

ohh ok. I don't think I'll bother with the sideways mounting of the muffler. Thank you.

I was leaning towards 3" as well but I just wanted to get a second opinion because I'd be (for lack of a better term) butthurt if I did all this 3" pipe to find out there wasn't enough enough back pressure or something like that that hindered performance. I also use public transit regularly (dont laugh people hahaha) and am not going to be driving it everyday. Not going to install a stereo so there wont be annoying massive bass thats worse then any exhaust :]
-
Approximately 3" for the inlet on the larger one and the smaller one has an inlet of about 2.3" its a turbo'd RB25. Also I do not have an exhaust system at all, just the header coming off the turbo. I am going to fabricate my own piping. I apologize for the lack of relevant information. This may sound like a dumb question but whats with the sideways muffler mounting? Any performance value from this? Since I'm making my own piping I want to make it as performance oriented as possible.

Problem: I am going to invest in a genuine HKS Hi-Power Ti Muffler and I am not sure if I should get the 120mm tip or 96mm tip. Question: Does a larger diammeter tip yeild a larger horse power gain or does it have a point of diminishing return? Which muffler would yeild the biggest horsepower gain? Application: RB25 powered 280z. Supplementary Info: I do not care if the larger muffler looks ricer, were not dealing with a Honda Civic here. I do not care if the larger one costs more because its not much more. I want my car to sound bitchin:biggrin: Photo:

Dilemma: My wiring harness was hacked up a little and I do not have the 6 Prong MAF connector that connects to the throttle body on an RB25DET. Question: Does anyone know where I could locate one of these connectors or an alternative part? Supplementary Info: I had my wiring harness outfited for use on a 280z by McKinney Motorsports and they were unable to supply me with one. Thank you in advance for your input, any posts will be greatly appreciated.

Going up to Mckinneys tomorrow to get the wiring harness and drop off the driveshaft(for like the fifth time). Heres that tack I was talking about till I get some pics of the harness tomarrow :] In box. Sitting in the dash where it should be.

one of my classes got cancelled today and I'm bored as hell with two hours to kill with my iPhone. So I found myself on hybrid z and decided to do a little update. I'm still waiting on the driveshaft. However I did find a nice autometer monster tack and shift light laying around the garage. I'm going to replace it with the stock one in the dash and put the shift light in the center console where the radio is supposed to be next to my future boost gauge so it won't look all ricer haha. I'll post pics of it when I get home.

Very disappointing update... the driveshaft flange does not fit, yet again. I was hoping to get the drivetrain done before I started college. It seems as though that will not happen. Ill get her done though! just not as soon as I would have liked.

Small update this evening, got the driveshaft back from McKinney and it looks like itll fit like a glove! I had a lot of non-Z related things to do today so I didnt get it in. Ill save that for tomorrow when Im less busy. Driveshaft fresh out of the box. The part McKinney changed so itll fit on my application. I know Ive posted this picture already but heres the difference once again (Left side fits a 1978 Z and the left is from a 1975 Z)

Sheesh Zardilla thats one expensive oil filter! Its probably a beast though. Tell us how you like it!

Decided to change all the flex lines that go from the caliper to the hard brake line because the ones on the car were cracked and about ready to go. New brake pads were also installed on all four corners because the originals were toast, which is not much of a surprise. Also got the radiator mounted and the fan put on. Originally a dual fan set up was going to be put on, but after further examination it was concluded that it would not fit. So we cut it in half and are using one. We also bled the brakes, they seem to be working great as of now! Radiator mounted. Fan almost mounted. New pads and flex lines all around! Heres a little peek at the turbo.

Ok, just so everyone knows, a K&N HP-2008 oil filter will work for an RB25DET engine. It is out of the KA series engines i.e. 240sx etc. Thanks a lot for your help guys!

Im having a bit of trouble trying to locate an oil filter for my RB25 engine. Ive done a lot of looking around and came across the thread by Stony which was talking about how Fram filters are cheap not of good quality. The Fram number was the only one I could find and I do not want to use that filter. Does anyone have a part number or what have you for a quality oil filter? I am from the US and the RB25 does not exist in any auto parts store databases as you all know. Thanks a lot in advance!

Managed to get down to the junk yard and got a few essential parts Ive been after. I got a radiator out of a 240sx. Not sure what year it was but its the one that resembles the S13. I also got a dual cooling fan set up out of some V6 Nissan sedan. I was able to get a suitable throttle cable and pedal that would fit my application out of the same 240sx. Its long enough to reach the plenum with some slack. Radiator out of the 240sx sitting in my Z ready to be mounted, its not a perfect fit. The cooling fan is again not a perfect fit but will fit with some minor fiddling. Picture of the throttle cable on my Z. This is the gas pedal out of that 240sx that must replace the one in my Z because the one in my Z is mechanical and will not match up to the cable.

Today I drove to Murrieta, California to drop off the driveshaft and wiring harness to McKinney. I'll go and pick them up in about a week. In the mean time its time to scourer the junk yard for a radiator and a few other nick nacks to get the engine up and running. I'm going to end up purchasing a full exhuast set up from McKinney as well as I don't have the time to fab one up myself. On the way back I came across an old Skyline GTR which is a pretty rare sight around here. Thought you guys would appreciate it.
