Got the wiring harness and driveshaft loaded up to take up to McKinneys tomorrow. We are going to pay to have the harness "plug and play" because were not very skilled electricians. The driveshaft has to be modified to fit because a previous owner installed a rear end from a 1978 Z and the driveshaft I ordered to fit the 208z and the RB25 transmission is for the 1975 rear end. The flange is different so it does not match up. Wiring Harness Driveshafts (orginal and the custom one that is being modified) On a side note, got a sweet laptop setup for school!

The day belonged to the Z. First thing was first, get the other transmission mount off so we could have clearance for the transmission to slip into he tunnel. The next order of business was to prep the engine to be put in. We got it up on the lift and wrestled it in. It took three people and a little monkeying around for about twenty minutes to get it in. Then we mounted it. As my neighbor put it so eloquently, we got the engine stabbed into the chassis. Finally both triangle mounts are off! Lifting the engine up high enough to clear the core support. Almost there! Shes in! The pops and I. The sun sets on a very productive day.

Very nice! im from the US and eventually want to do the RB30 conversion someday. You say your paint job is bad...mine looks like it just came out of someone's rear end hahaha I havent painted it yet. Keep up the good work!
-
wow nice job! How much would you say the engine with all the Mods cost if you don't mind me asking? And what kind of horsepower would you say it makes?
-
If your talking about the original fuel pump that came with the Z then no, I wouldn't recommend it. Itd be best to get a new one. I have to buy one myself as I am swapping an RB25 engine and am not sure which one to buy.

Shes ready to stuff! I am at the point of being able to mount the engine and transmission in the car! All wrapped up for the night.

Sorry cant help you on this one. I ripped that thing off the first day I got my engine. Also this is a section about swapping RB engines into Z's. Might be better off going to a forum where people are more knowledgeable about putting an RB into that car. Sorry!

I want one of those babies but thats why Greddy is known by a lot of people as "Greedy". They make quality parts but you gotta shell out a hell of a lot for em. You would think prices on items such as this would be dropping due to the fact that gas is getting more expensive by the day and people are in "milage mode" insted of the good old "horsepower mode".

I decided to take off the wiring harness from the rb25 so I can take it into Mckinney when I bring in the driveshaft for adustments. They will wire it completely for the 280z so that its all "plug and play" for $550 which is a pretty good deal in my opinion. I am not a very good electrician so its worth the money to me just to take it in and skip the headaches. I also removed the front tires so I can put on new brake lines, pads and bushings to tighten up the cars handling. On kind of a side note, these two are my best friends right now as I get the Z running =D The good ol' San Diego Trolley My cruiser board.

I then went in and took off the stock driveshaft which was a bit of a struggle but I finally got that sucker off. To my dismay when I went to slip the one I got from McKinney it didnt fit. Come to find out I have a rear end from a 78' Z and need to take it back in. I called up Mac from Mckinny and he was real cool about it. Im going to take it up sometime this weekend or early next week to have him fix it free of charge. Heres some pics of the differances between the stock and custom driveshaft from Mckinney. Yes, My lazy self has not cut off the other stock triangle mount yet. That is coming off very soon as the engine is ready to be dropped in.

FINALLY got my oil pan and pickup! its been a long time, it got lost in shipping or something. I was so jazzed when I got it that I forgot to take pictures of them out of the box. Somehow some kind of plastic melted all over the oil pan on my engine so I had to pry it off and un bury the screws to get it off. I then got it off and replaced it with the 200ZR one, forgetting that I also had to relocate the oil dipstick which took a while. Heres a picture of the box the pan and pickup came in. Heres a picture of the oil pan on the car. This is pretty much a quick diagram I made that shows what happens to that pesky Dipstick.

ohh ok thanks guys, I was just curious if maybe the rear end swap would be in my favor, as in beefer, lighter or something of that sort, but seeing as its all the same and was just to accommodate a transmission swap then ahh well at least its slightly newer :] I cant answer that question because I have never seen the engine or transmission that came out of the car originally, it was sold to me without them.

Hey guys I own the $100 1975 280z which I am putting an RB25 trans and engine in. I had to order a driveshaft that would fit the two, which I did, and to my surprise the flange didnt fit. After futher research I discovered that someone had installed a rear end from a 1978 Z. I was able to get the driveshaft corrected but I was just curious as to what the possible advantages, if any, there is between the 75' and 78' rear end besides it being "newer". I heard something about the 75' having a vibration? but im not sure if thats true or even related to this subject. thanks in advance!

Dont park that thing near me or your rims might go missing boy what id do for a set of watanabes like those... Overall the car is a 10/10 period.

ahhh school and a lack of oil pan has kept me at a stand still. The oil pan I ordered is on back order and should come in next week. Been lacking updates because I have nothing to update on. I need the oil pan to be able to mate the transmission and engine and align them correctly with the mounts. I will update as soon as possible!

Yeah Stony i know what you mean. What i mean is I dont want to be paying McKinny prices for parts ($300 radiators, $900 intercoolers) I already dropped over a grand in engine mounts and driveshaft. -.- I still need to get an exhuast set-up for it and a muffler as well as have the harness done to get it going. Im just barely gonna make it hahaha. My ride is gonna look like a pile of crap but when i fire it up thats all the satisfaction ill need right now. Just think guys the ultimate sleeper If i hadn't gotten a few grants and scholarships then this whole entire car would have been out of the question for me, so im pretty jazzed that I have the big purchases out of the way and am moving onto the minor ones. Just got my last paycheck, $250, I had to quit work to go to school =/ I feel that I was meant to have this car seeing as I got it for $100 and have gotten a lot of good deals on other things as well, noteably my $90 intercooler set up. Im willing to do what I gotta do to get this baby going Thanks a lot for the help on stuff guys really helped me out!

Give McKinny a call since you dont mind paying nicely. They can do it for sure. And along with 260z shooter i just received my unmodded pan today from Courtesy Nissan Parts and was happy with their service.

I live in CA and am going to be doing a junk yard run here pretty soon. I have a few questions about getting stuff that'll work with my 280Z and RB25. Ive done some searching and have not found what I am looking for. I'm on a pretty tight budget so anything I can use from the junk yard is fare game. I need a fuel pump, a throttle cable and a radiator. Are their any cars that are likely to be found in a junk yard in California that I can get these parts off of to satisfy my needs? Thanks a lot!

McKinney had the 200ZR pans on back order when I went to their shop a week or two ago so I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't have any around. You could probably put in an order to them for one if all else fails. They are good guys I'd recommend them. However it probably wont come cheap ($400-$500).

I'd have a hard time seeing that one off, man thats one of the best looking Z32s ive seen in a while with a nice clean swap. If i had $25,000 laying around i'd buy it in a heartbeat, sadly I dont =/

I happened to come across the Wangan Midnight Live Action Movie and was watching it. It featured a Devil Z replica as you all know from SSS. I wanted to get some pictures and its whereabouts/current owner just out of curiosity. After searching the internet through google I found nothing of the sort except it's specs. No pictures no nothing. Did it get wrecked or something? Or did it mysteriously fall off the face of the earth? You would think that the popularity of Wangan Midnight would force it and the owner out of hiding. Anyone know if it's still alive?

Yeah it needs a few adjustments. When it gets in the car its going to screw into the core support for some stability.

Problem Solved.

350z's are under represented on this forum. I was shocked to only see one post in this section seeing as theres a lot of people that come to this forum haha. And its not even concerning a 350z. My question is does anyone have any pics or anything on hybrid 350z's? I.E. RB powered 350z etc.
