I was told today when I went to a shop, that a guy running with an l28 making about 200rwhp, has a complete tube chassis car, and he says he keeps twisting the frame, I knew the stock frame was weak, but if thats true, my 7m swap is useless, cuz id be running a standard NHRA spec cage, 10pt, with about 350rwhp. I dont need to be ripping my car in half when I get some traction. This was supposed to be mostly a street car, and there is no way I will continue this project if I need a full tube chassis to MAYBE keep the car straight. Some please tell me he is just trying to stop a 240z from being what he calls "butchered". HE said though If i did a 280z it would work a lot better. So will my 72 240z be a problem with a 10pt cage and 350rwhp?

what offsect and etc for these flares?

Ive been under the impression that the Z needs a 0 offset, or 4.5 backspace., maybe a little one, like +10. I might be completely wrong. -
Whats a good fuel pump to get for a straight 6 making about 450-500 Crank. OR what are they using for the chevy upgrades. I Tried a search but I keep getting posts where Fuel Pump is listed in Mods, not what kind, just "fuel pump" or someone randomly says they have to install thiers or something. Just need some good places to shop. Also, at what power level are the 280zxt half shafts necessary?

not mounted but its laying in there, the only real concern at this point is the shifter, it sits a lot more forward. Gotta figure out how im gonna get a new one made. Good thing i know some guys who can fab. Ive taken pics, later on this evening ill post everything up that I can.

yah, i thought about making a new panel, i want to retain the AC, seeing as it is primarily a street car, i thought about stealing all the electornics from the supra and using the supras AC panel but that would be a huge pain in the ass. I wont cut out the cd player though..I want that in the center console. I also need to figure out if i can locate the plaque on my dash (the one from road atlanta) to put a tv screen in and slide a dvd player into the glovebox. Also, if anyone has any good pics of good sound systems id appreciate it.

there wasnt an interior section, so i figured id post here and let a mod move it if needed, if it is moved please pm me and let me know where it goes. anyway... Has anyone ever done anything with the center part of the dash (A/c control, stereo, vent) to make it look more modern. Im trying to blend old with new on the car and the best thing i can come up with to hide the ugly ac control and vent, is to move the controller into the glove box. IF anyone knows or has pictures or has seen anything to make it look nicer, id appreciate it. I know it would be tough to move since its manual ac and all but i figured id give it a shot, ill probably just end up modding it and painting it or something. by the way, my car is a 72 240z.

il be posting my progress in the my other thread, 7mgte swap progress or whatever i called it, sorry i have been slow with pics but i actually havnt had time to move it, just FYI, ill be doing the r200 with this swap, i believe having the r200 rear end is basically Necessary for this swap based on the torque-yness of the 7m.

I was wondering if anyone can point me to someone using the big msa fender flares, has pictures of them installed, knows what rim and tires sizes can fit, ( i want to use a 17x11 which im sure i can make work), etc etc. Just need all the info I can get on the big MSA flares.
-
ok, Decided to go along with the swap, so ill just start a thread for people to keep up, everything will just stay here, that way later if anyone needs info they can link to this thread and have all the information they need. and instead of me sitting writing a detailed how to for several hours, i can do it piece by piece that way ill have less chance of forgetting something. So today we pulled everything out, ill go take pics of the donor car. Already found something mighty cool, the speedometer cable from the Z car makes a direct connection to the speedo sensor from the 1990 Supra, i plugged it up and spun it off my hand and sure enough the speedo in the car started moving, although i could only spin it five miles an hour...

Does anybody have any racing seats that they really like, ive had a few different kinds in other cars i liked.. sparco torino, corbeau cr1, r1 racing, .. etc. ALso if you could, how hard was it to make sliders and brackets fit?
-
ok, that is part of what is so backwards to me, im used to a smaller offset in the front, not in the rear, that was the wall blocking my logic from working. I got it now, I will get the 5 lug, with the MSA IMSA flares, should be able to run my 17x11 then, with a smaller, say 275 tire stretched versus the 335 squared. Especially with the coil over. I Pm'd Zr8ed. he has the big ole' wheels and tires. He uses a 17x11 with a 4.5 backspace and he uses stock spring perches and he says he has room for a 345, so I would imagine, my runnin the same wheel size with a smaller 275 or 285 shouldnt be a problem.
-
I see, but if you re-read your thread. unless im totally missing something, he says he ran a +20 and it stuck out to much, so he put a +40 on the front and it fit perfect, nothing about the back, nothing about a 10-11 inch wide wheel with fender flares, nothing about what he did for the 5 lug in the back, im assuming he bought the conversion hub from modern, but above is mentioned a 240sx conversion, which i havnt heard of, maybe a type, i dunno. and since there are about 5-6 ways to get a 5 lug, from redrilling to using this hub to that hub, and you can mix it up front rear, i listed above exactly what i do, that way from there i could get some help figuring out exactly what I need, like in his post, where Ivan240z or whatever says he hopes the other guys wheels fit different than his because i guess they had different conversions for the 5 lug.

my bad, its a 72, anyway, ill be documenting the whole thing, my garage will probably sell this swap, u know, 6 grand, complete car, or something along those lines.. who knows.. but yah, ill be documenting everything.

I do have coil overs. I see that, but just like my other thread, these cars really manage to confuse me, they dont have off sets and sizes im used too, im used to shopping for newer high end imports like rx7s, supras, 300zx's... My supra fits an 18x10 with a +45 on the rear, the Z i guess is like a 17x9.5 with like a +30 or something?
-
so now here is the big question, if I do flares front and rear and want a 5 lug pattern on my 240z, i can buy a 300zx hub for the front, and then buy the 5 lug hub for the rear from modern-motorsport? And then, how bad does it screw up the rim offsets? Can i still use a 16 or 17x9 or 10 with a 275 tire?

Suspension Conversion to new wheel sizes?
majik16106 replied to majik16106's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
thats wierd, i met a guy yesterday running like 16x11 with a 335 on the rear... didnt look like he had any major rear end work done. -
hey guys, I actually decided to put a 7mgte into the 71, not my TOP choice, but Id rather have that than a v8. I got a good deal on it, got some goodies on her, should have a quick powerband, should make about 350-400rwhp. Which means with a badass suspension and big tire set up I could actually drive it on the road, hit some mountain passes and road courses. And based on what I have seen this exact same set up do in a mk2 supra chassis, which weighs about 600 pounds more than the Z AND had a terrible suspension, wheel, and tire set-up, probably can make it run deep 11's if not high 10's.
-
Ok, i read a lot of posts about this and that, but nobody ever gets really specific. People say what size wheel with flares and suspension, but i knwo adding a coil overs makes a TON more room, and there are about 9 different flares for the car. With that being said, what size rim and tire fits on a 71 240z converted to coil overs with the biggest flare that MSA sells?
-
I was looking into putting the sr in a 240, i may actually drop in a 7m, im not sure yet...

ok trying to get in touch with him, I just really want to talk to some high HP guys who drive around on the street pretty regularly..
-
just out of curiousity, who all on the boards is going 9's?
-
a bunch of stuff,in my experience this just works better if i can make a phone call to somebody, you know, so i can play questions off the fly, instead of typing back and forth 900 hundred times it only takes a 10 min conversation, u know he says one thing, i have more questions, so instead of getting started on the boards, id rather just take care of it all at once, its ok if nobody is pushing that sort of power i can talk too, i can play around on my own, was just hoping to get some input, and no, the r200 actually has nothing to do with my questions....

seen him, not sure hes the guy to ask, anyone else?
