when you start looking for 1jz parts, check out http://www.powerhousejimbo.com, great guy who has helped out several 1j owners, he also has his own "for sale" section over on http://www.supramania.com

However, i started thinking, my best buddy has a 1jz mk3 supra here in atlanta, he runs a 3037s kit from hks, it looks fantastic and id rather have his set up than the other two. but it dont look stock. I plan on running something similiar in mine when I swap it from the 7m to the 1jz. Medium sized singles work fantastic, and his 3037 has some wierd trims, it has a VERY small compressor compared to a pretty large hot side. but his car scoots pretty damn good. Seems to me you both dont want to have anything that looks all crazy though, but personally, if you can bring yourself to put a small single on it, it would be very very cool, hell a t04e should break 400 by a good bit at high boost.

Damn straight about thay y pipe, dont do a turbo upgrade without it. I had one custom made, it helped tremendously. it went from almost no lag, to no lag, a 1jz with a y pipe and 3inch exhaust, turbo back, feels like its super charged... I actually sent my turbo's off to turbo technics for the hybridz to be made, and during the process, i sold the car, however when the turbos arrived from the uk, i did get to put them on the car and drive it, I was pushing the stockers to make 400rwhp on a us dyno, which is like 360ish on a uk dyno, I ran the hybridz at 18psi, which i was assured would be fine, and it was significantly faster, a little more lag, but it got moving fast enough. I have installed a blitz twin k3t kit ona friends sc300 with a 1jz, basically a soarer, and it was a bit laggier than the hybrids, but it was much faster, pulled through redline. a friend with a 1jz out in texas, now maryland, had the blitz kit on a 1jz, but he used the 2jz bottom end ( a 1.5jz) he made 556rwhp on a us dyno, and pulled an 11.2 with a 75 shot of giggle juice. I hope that helps...

Anything can make power with enough money, there are plenty of 1jz's with over 1000rwhp, theres 2 7ms in australia making 1000+rwhp. The 2jz is only considered the "best" here in the states because its the most popular, but in japan, i know of a few 4th gen's that ditched the 2jz in favor of a 1jz, it all depends on what your trying to build, but if you just want lots of power, just build a big blown 454 or something and dont waste your time with a supra motor, it will do it easier, cheaper and faster.

1jz vs 7m, jeeze, if you wanna read all about it, look it up on supraforums, this argument went on there for 9 months in 100 million threads, you can find everyones opinion there, just remember, 99.99% of those people have no idea, they have never seen a 1jz in person, much less worked on, ridden in or driven a car with one, and second, most of the 1jz people never had a decent 7m car. theres only a handful of people i would ask about this.

just a few years ago, i helped with the white sc300 that will soon be featured in some magazines, belongs to a shop down here called Finish Line, 1jz car, twin blitz kit, vertex body kit...etc. IT was at nopi in the toyo booth. Its a pretty nice car. why not put a 1j in the 240? it would be badass, its such a fast revving motor, it would make the little Z car haul if you could get traction.. like i said, its what i plan on doing eventually. Right now Ill just lightly build up the suspension and body around the 7m's power, but a 1jz with a t61 or the one of the newer GT turbo's would be might nice, and probably REALLY fast, especially for road racing.

The reason I need wider tires..
majik16106 replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
It still wouldnt be any positive offset, infact on those without a hub extension, you would need more negative, my guess is you would want something like a 10 or 11 inch wide wheel with about 4-5 inches of back spacing. I modified some Zg's, and am using 17x11's on the rear with 4 inches of back spacing, that comes to like -28offset or something, its like negative inch and a half offset. If he is using the hub extensions he would need a regular +offset wheel, like most newer cars use. -

I just wish somebody sold those flare for less than 600bucks for a pair, i just cant bring myself to spend that much when i could have some Zg's extended. but it looks so nice, what size are those nismos? -
my car is a '74, 7+4= 11, "toyota 7mgte" has 11 letters, " I enjoy Porno" has 11 letters, Great, now I cant whack off or drive my car.. what the hell am i gonna do with my life...?

gross, do your self a favor and sell them to me for 5 dollars, really, i guess i can fork over a little cash to help out a fellow Z owner.. ill put those on my probe or something.. -
Where are you getting your information from? The vvti 1jz's came with a ct-26, its not ball bearing. its the EXACT same turbo that the 3rd gen supra's came with but with a ceramic impellar to reduce lag. Second, the vvti makes almost no power difference or powerband difference in the soarers, its the turbo set up, the larger single is punchier, and this is coming from someone who has been in japan and driven both. Third, the vvti computer and harness are COMPLETELY different, and the regular 1jz system is complicated enough, especially in cars like the chasers that had all kinds of extra stuff like traction control, but the vvti cars are ridiculous, Do whatever you want man, but do some more research, seems to me your getting misinformed...

I had a Supra with a 1jz, it was the car I just got rid of since my Z is almost done. Im building another on a stand that may eventually go into my z, or may eventually go into something else... I was one of the first people to do that swap on supraforums or anywhere else public like that. I wouldnt read too much on there, most of the kids on there dont know anything about that engine, i almost never post on that site anymore, go to http://www.supramania.com and find a guy named Toypro, he lives 15 min from me, a close personal friend, and me and him have done both of ours, plus several other peoples, we know these engines like the back of our hands, so feel free to e-mail us with any questions. and.. with all that being said.. forget the vvti motor...

I tell you guys what, I know im not really an important member here, some of you may have seen my posts but its not like everyone is asking my opinion on anything... with that being said, I still feel more welcome here than any other forum for any car group I have ever been at. When im bored I pick a car, find a group for it, whether it be ITR's, Wrx's, rx7's, starions, silvia... etc. Look and read and Learn. And of all the groups, you guys are by far the nicest. I think it has a lot to do with how this group started, sort of like outcasts who formed their own family. People didnt like us "tearing" these classic cars apart, even though we made them drive better, go faster, arguably look better.. etc. We arent purists here, and it shows.. people respect everyone elses opinion. I was a supra owner, and there, your nothing without 18's and 700rwhp, which is ridiculous.. i stopped going to supra meets, nobody could even spell road racing much less do it, save a few special owners. I wanted 17's on my Z, big IMSA flares and 275/40 rear tires. But the tires i needed at 400+rwhp on pump gas on the road. the 17s and flares were just for style however, nothing like 6 inches of lip,but now i think id rather use the ZG flare, keep the 275 with a 45 or 50 sidewall, and put them on 16's so I can lower the car a bit more. But the Great thing about that is, no matter which way I would have gone, a black car or a bright orange one, people on this board would have understood, and been curteous to my own "personal style". HYbridz.com made me a Z owner for life. And I cant wait to post pictures when all the work is done because I know that I wont be made fun off...

right but his combo is considerably higher, plus he essentially has 10mm of extra backspacing, not that it couldnt be taken care of with spacer, but according to my measurement, the taller the combo, the more negative you need because of the shape of everything inside, Everyone I have seen running 17 or lager with a 10inch or wider wheel has negative offset, whereas the 15 or 16x10 combos are using a dead 0 offset.
-
did anone notice he has an 18X10 with a +10 offset, thats gonna be a real close call for the suspension, I think a 10inch wide wheel barely fits at 0 offset. I think you need a wheel with a bit less backspacing.

confused about backspace measurement
majik16106 replied to majik16106's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
You running a much higher sidewall than ill be running, i plan on running a 275/35 or 40 on a 17, i know people with zg flares that run a 10 inch wide wheel with 5 inches of back space and 18's so i may just use the 9.5 at just under 4.75 back spacing, like a 4.25 or 4, in stead of hoping for the 3.75 to work, and in the front ill use an 8 inch wheel with say... 3.75 as well. According to another source, people have run a 12 inch wide wheel on these flares in the back.. barely but its been done, so there is lots of space to push them out.... -
What is your dream suspension?
majik16106 replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Dream Suspension- Spirit garage Coil overs.. mmmmm You seem to have a bit of a mix up though, the more "racey" you get, the less comfortable it is. And air ride suspension would have to be fabbed up, would get expensive fast, but it would drive nice, but it wouldnt handle well. The best thing for a Z to make it ride more comfortable would be a spring with less than 275 lb rate with say Kyb struts. It would handle ok, and it would ride ok, but nothing like a bmw. to make a bmw a competitive car on a track, you do away with all that nice ride quality for a track type suspension, for example, H&R coil overs dont feel good on long ride if you like stock feeling bimmers. Personally I love a car that handles well, i like feeling bumps and the car feeling stiff, its a constant reminder of what my car is capable of. -
confused about backspace measurement
majik16106 replied to majik16106's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
ok awesome, i knew it was measured from the center out, but i didnt know which direction out. Thanks, that helps, I might've ordered my wheels backwards.. Here is what I know, with a zg flare you can fit a 10 inch wide wheel on the back with 5 inch backspace So here is my Math: the wheel I want is 9.5 wide for the rear, so i should be able to put it on with 4.5 inches of back space and it should come out just as far. So Then If i extend the flare an extra inch, the size of the IMSA flare Ill be running (according to MSa one inch bigger than the ZG) I could run the 9.5 at 3.5 inches of backspace, but the company has a minimum back space of 3.75, which should stay far away from the suspension, be almost out to the flare, allow me to run a 275/35/17 rear tire and give me almost 6 inches of "lip" provided the spokes are even with the mounting point, which these wheels are. And for the front ill just use an 8 inch wide wheel with liek a 235 or 245 and give it some negative offset as well. -
I knwo how mm of offset work, but im a little confused on how back space is measured, i know if I have an 8 inch wheel with 4 inches of back space, im at zero offset, and I know at 10 i need 5inches of backspace to be at a zero offset. MY question is i guess, if i have the 8 inch wheel at 4 inches of backspace, and I move to 5 inches of back space, is the wheel coming in to the suspension or going out away from the car giving me more lip ?

huge pantera Fan here, i hang out with a lot of southeast pantera club owners. a buddy of mine that lives down the street has one we work on all the time, cept his is a 509 big block and runs twin t3/t4 Turbos... its fast.... I almost bought one a few years ago, wish I had. I plan on building on eventually.

why a Z for a daily driver? if i was gonna have a daily car that was sporty, why not something a little bigger and more comfortable? if its a daily driver the weight shouldnt be a big deal, i thought about buying another mk3 supra, its big, comfortable, quick enough to take down some 5.0's. new enough to get parts fairly easy, and a targa roof...
-
I think the sway bar issue depends on the car. The Z is a different animal than some other cars. The sway bar does make a street driven Z pretty rough. But I couldnt of lived without a big aftermarket one on my old supra. My z has one as well, and to be honest i really dont mind it. I love the stiffer car feeling, constantly reminding me what I built it for. before I went to my big ass wheels, I had tmc springs and kyb struts, and they worked great for the street, but then i bought big wheels, so I moved to coil overs out of necessity, so instead of using a stiffer tokico strut, i kpet the Kyb's, and its turned out to work very well on the street. I may switch out for the adj. tokico's later as i start to race more, but for now it workes fine. But new Tie rod ends, ball joints, and Poly bushings are a must in my opinion. as for the noise... doesnt a good system fix that? if its a street car.. its gotta have a good stereo right?

Not really, the swap was so straight forward I cant think of anything I would have done differently. I guess I could have put 20 over pistons in it or something.... I dont know. IT really was very easy, And I set mine up where the thing just bolts in and out, including my engine cradle. I could show up at your house , and if you have a 240-280, I could have all my stuff in your car in a matter of a few hours.

yah, 100% true, for anyone who is new to supra engines, or thinking about doing a 7m swap, a head gasket is a must. even if its stock, it still needs a metal head gasket. the third gen guys have made shirts with jokes about blown head gaskets, thats how much of problem the stockers are. The only reason I havnt posted many pics, is because Im waiting to have more done, i probably wont post anything up for a month or two, im getting things done really fast now, and id rather "debut" it more complete. it will look plenty cool. Plus I really want to introduce her to the hybridz board with a cool music video. So, we'll see, but ill make the wait worth it. CLifton's car is mostly stock, id like to see a comparison once we get moving. Mine isn't modded REAL hard core, but it has a small upgraded turbo, so it would be cool to see 1) how well a 7m powered Z performs, and 2) how much faster it can get cheap as What ive done doesnt cost a lot of money. Im willing to bet that this swap is going to end up being one of the best. I bet it will make the car real fast for pretty cheap.
