  1. as for the mounts, I dont know about Clifton, but I built an engine cradle, it lowered the engine down and back, Its hard to tell from the pictures, but in my bay, the engine sits very far down and back, should make for some AWESOME handling.
  2. I chose manual steering, you dont need power in these cars, AC is easily retained.
  3. They aren't modifying, they are stealing. 95% of all japanese modified sports cars are stolen over there, research on it, you can read lots of reports of this, its a huge problem that nobody seems to fixing. the Top Rpm cars may be for real, although ive heard they are being investigated. there is a prince over there, i think he might be lebonese (sp?) who is a badass, he owns SEVERAL modded high end cars, he is one of the few owners of a koenig twin turbo ferrari, i think his is a 348ts.
  4. it was a joke, thats why i put the smiley face behind it.
  5. can someone post a link to the nicest z 1.0? I can find it, all I can find is the nicest zx thread, and who cares about zx's really?
  6. Hey, me and you have similiar taste, it seems we are a lot like, both being 19 and working on a hybrid z and everything. I actually meant to e-mail you last week since I know you have been searching, I have info regarding what you want, since im looking for them too. I think I have a line on them, e-mail me if you want more information- Majik16106@yahoo.com or catch me on AIM to talk about it, sn there is Majik16106 as well. Paul
  7. 7mgte is out of the 87-92 toyota supra turbo. comes out of soarers in japan as well as older chasers, but in america, the mk3 supra. I have several laying around personally, i just picked the lowest mileage best looking out of the pile, mine was gonna be rebuilt by us anyhow. Like i said in my other post, im a supra guy, i work mostly on top end imports, supras, rx7s, 300zxs, 3kgts, and a lot of wierd or hybrid cars. but anyway, i have lots of supra stuff laying around. everything i needed to modify what i have, including the turbo, was sitting on a shelf in my garage.
  8. In that picture a lot of stuff was unhooked, we have the wiring already figured out, just havnt wired it. The radiator I have came with the datsun and is much bigger than either a stock supra radiator, and the hoses plug in. The turbo was sitting off to the side with the intercooler and piping. so it is all there. I dont know if you have seen the other posts by me, but im a Supra guy turned Z guy, or actually, i was a Z guy stuck with supras... My previous car was a mk3 with a 1jzgte swap ( that was rough). thought about putting the 1jz here, might switch it out later but the 7m makes plenty of power for the little Z car, and it is much easier to get parts for. we have a bit of a reputation for supras so we mostly work on them. I had always wanted a Z though, so this is like finally getting the car i had wanted.
  9. Hey, I have pictures of the swap done, still have some suspension/brake/wheel issues to work out over the next couple months, but I thought people would like to see this, only trouble is, I need someone to host and post them for me if anyone could? please pretty please? I just need an e-mail address. Thanks alot.
  10. gotta agree with on3go, im 19, turn 20 in oct. Ive owned 5 cars at this point, all bought and paid for on my own. if you can afford it, the number 1 thing you want to do, buy a 2nd car, even if its like a 500 dollar nissan truck or something. I had one car for a long time, my probe, then my challenger, then the supra. it was killing me cuz they always went to the shop for weeks, sometimes months at a time. so i bought a $500 86 camry i can drive everyday which gives me time to build the Z the way I want, like now the motors done, but I havnt even driven it cuz its sitting waiting for the new brakes.. suspension.. etc. But nothing helps like spending 5 hours a day on hybridz.....
  11. I guess Im the only one with the balls to say it.. masturbation.. the only cure for internet car forum addiction...
  12. Now that ive been thinking about this, ill call up Dan at batleground and ask him about the 350z they built, he might have an interesting answer.
  13. I know a lot of guys who seem to have trouble with the richmond 6 speeds, not in a z but in hotrods. They almost always switch to a t56 or a t-5 or back to a muncie 4 speed. Dunno, just FYI i guess. 340 would be cool. for a small car like a Z pushing the much Hp, why not use an Auto, hooking up a 727TF would be amazingly fast, the 727 is my fave auto tranny.
  14. and just so everyone knows, im trying to figure out a way to make the stock gauges work perfect with my set up so that i can keep it more sleeper. But for now, the autometer's in my car work fine, it took some work but they do work fine.
  15. looks to me like he is using the electrical temp gauge, and autometer elec gauges are notorious for being bad. Second, anything you put in is going to have to be calibrated in one way or another. second, on the fuel gauge he used the stock datsun sender, i used the autometer kit that the compnay says is needed to properly use the fuel level gauge, and mine works PERFECT. Too many people use incorrect set-ups when using gauges. I have the upmost respect for pete, he is very intelligent, and he obviously found a way to fix his problem. Like i said in my last post, not all guage set ups are created equal, getting them to work perfect is hard, especially in a HYBRID set up. without being properly set up or calibrating almost everything is going to be off. I would suggest that anybody using an aftermarket gauge buy as many Mechanical type gauges as possible, too many things can throw off the electrical ones. Almost all top fuel, nascar, Pro-touring, Gt, and Scca comp cars use autometer or similiar companies gauges. I hope your not suggesting that since a few people use bad set ups, or dont take the time to set them up correctly, that it means that all those cars' gauges are incorrect and useless. EDIT: I used "autometer" as a general term, i didnt mean you needed to get an autometer gauge, my suggestion was to use something aftermarket.
  16. you can make your little rolley eyes at me or whatever, but you should use an autometer, i started off using the stock 260z gauges with my 7mgte swap, which is what you are doing exactly, and the gauges were fairly inaccurate, i was off by about 8 mph and my tach was off about 2200 Rpms, now it may be because my dash cluster was messed up, not sure but the autometers were pretty much right on where they should be considering my tranny was set up for the supra 3.73 and im using the 3.54 rear end. autometer gauges arent always in riced out cars, if you buy good gauges and hook them up correctly they work VERY well.
  17. to me it sounds like the best idea for a street car with some track use is to do a good "back half" type cage with some good cross bars, only coming up to the cieling in the back but no bars passing around the driver's head, then linking the back to the front via 2 bars, one on each side, that run low along the doors.
  18. Should i just go with 2 walbro units, external or internal.. i need help, no idea what works well on these car. let me know what you have or what you think. this will be a 7mgte car, but it doesnt really matter..
  19. yah, i think thats the NHRA rule, which my car will definatly break. But like i said, my post wasnt started with the intention of "do i need for legal or safety purposes" but aimed more at a cages ability to stop the frame from twisting up.
  20. well, my car has the 5 point harnesses and the seats sitting next to it, the only issue im personally having is how intricate i want MINE to me, mostly i started the thread just for thoughts. I know with the frequency i travel through metropolitan atlanta (75, 85, 285, and 400) and with how crazy Atlanta's drivers are.. a cage for me is a must if ONLY for safety, my issue was for the necessity of it in a "safe controlled" enviroment without other drivers, my question was aimed more at its necessity to keep the car straight.
  21. The stress from the power isnt what im really worried about. Power doesnt really stress a chassis at all unless your making a lot of torque and running slicks with hard launches, a car see's a lot more stress when pushed through turns as it holds on. Im thinkin since mine is mainly a street car, which will see occasional auto-x's and road courses (and even then wont really be pushed to the limit seeing as i dont want to bust it up too bad) i'll probably run a small 4 point with a big cross in the back, and sub fram connectors, the car has a little rust(nowhere really important) but it is straight. I would like to keep getting input however cuz it seems like people are interested. I started a small debate over this a while ago, i just knwo that there are ALOT of v8 cars running around without cages daily. Im sure the small cage will be more than enough for me.
  22. I see a lot of guys on here running decent power through motors without roll cages, most guys say its absolutely necessary for a car getting any track time, but some of the weekend racers seem to not be using them without any trouble.. so it seems to me a cage is good idea, but its not really needed. If you could post up and let me know what your running and if you have a cage and if your having any huge problems...
  23. Hey Brent, welcome to the forum, your car will be appreciated here. That car is being built right here in good ole' atlanta. Dan is the fu*kin Man, he drives one of the baddest supras in the country, he recently ran a 9.2 something and he is self funded by his shop, no major super sponsors or anything. One of the few people in "the mainstream shop" type of place that i still have respect for. Him and the crew at batleground have been hard at work on that thing for months, its been under raps, so im glad he finally let pictures out, he used to have a no cameras within certain distance of the Z rule...haha. Im glad to see he is finally showing it off, and I cant wait to race it...
