everyone that has built a custom intake for the L6

guys I've got a new flowtest to post with great results, I'll post it tonight. Oh and the stacks are in it this time. tbs -

I think your missing the high point of whats being analized in the videos. problems like a vortex or un equil plenum filling can be seen and corrected. Again the turbulent flow is not ideal for getting air in we need laminor flow and I know some turblence is good to keep the fuel mixed. This thread was my hope to help other L6 guys by analyzing there intakes and helping to correct any flow issues. tbsd -

I'm sure they will help but first the plenum needs to be resolved. I have a surface vector plot showing the air being pulled back out of the stacks because of the vortex. tbs -

yah I can do that I'll get that posted by tomarrow night. a cdf is computational fluid dynamics. tbs -

I don't know rontyler I wish I did but as what I'm using now is to see how turblent the flow is in a large plenum and how its distrubuted and the mas ari outlet. I'm sure I can do something to figure that out for now I'm still learning about cfds tbs -

I've repost these vids on another server. http://www.needmoreboost.com/turbobluestreak/Cut_Plot_tbs_intake2.avi http://www.needmoreboost.com/turbobluestreak/Cut_Plot_tbs_intake.avi http://www.needmoreboost.com/turbobluestreak/Flow_Trajectories_my_intake1.avi http://www.needmoreboost.com/turbobluestreak/Flow_Trajectories_stock_intake.avi just right click and save target as. download speed should be faster let me know if this still doesn't work. tbs -

no the 60mm t/b and spacer caused a more laminar flow rather then the high turbulent flow that the stock produced. tbs -

Guys I'm getting ready to do some research on intakes with soldworks's flowworks I've tested mine with disappoint that I've got a vortex that forms after the throttle body and sucks the air back out my t/b under 25psi of inlet pressure. I also tested a stock plenum with a bad result but I added the 60mm t/b and the spacer and WOW its a good flow and distribution. I'm asking everyone that has a custom intake for the L6 to send me dimensions of their intake and wall thickness and what t/b they are using and how it is orientated. I'll be conducting flow data on the plenums, runners and if anyone has one the ram pipes. Then I'll send each member’s flow data back in an avi movie for the trajectories and maybe some data sheet of the pressure drop and amount of flow and if the member is ok with sharing the results will be posted in this thread for everyone to use. Please PM me with your intake dimensions. tbs -

ok I'll go ahead and email the guy back and confirm a price for a group buy and then post it in the group buy section. tbs -

nope as far as I got was that we could get a discount on 10 items. and the shipping cost would be about the say to the states. tbs -
thats hoovers header. Jeffps web pages said that he wanted around 2K for one of those. tbs

I read the 135 246 on an old pdf off of the osg website under the TC16. they changed the pdf sense then but I have a copy of the orginal one and thats what it said. so I assumed the info from them to be correct. I guess thats what I get for not really checking the picture. tbs

I'll have to get my model back from my friend and then I can add in my intake manifold. See my intake sets higher up then the factory L6. Also I just ran a CFD on my intake and was dissapointed with the results . unequal flow and a vortex is generated just after the throttle body. That sucks wish I had this software years ago. tbs

New software that should help US L6 guys

I know there isn't a market for the L6 but I love my L6 so much that I would do it. tbs -
OK I just got my copy of solidworks 06 and flowworks. I ran a flow test on my custom intake I built and was dissapointed it is creating a vortex in the pentum and most of the air is swerling in the back of the intake but the point is that had this be available to me when I was building my intake I could have corrected any problems before making it. So any issues witht he L6 can be taken care in a 3d model before hand. I'm talking about cylinder head flow by gernating the ports from a head with a cmm or 3d scanner then being able to port the heads with a cnc to what was developed in the model. Also if I would kill a head and dice it all up and recreat the water passages I can run a test on heat transfer from the exhaust ports though the head and water to the intake runners and try and creat ways to prevent it. If I remember correctly someone hinted at with todays technology the old limts of the L6 are a thing of the past. tbs

ok I'll just got the tranny reassembled and tomarrow looks like I'll be installing it and going for a drive. As for the driveshaft I had 2.25 taken off mine at a machine shop and I could have went to 2.5 but it works. tbs
-
I tore the tranny apart last night and the front extension didn't get just enough taken off of it and when I hit third gear it forced the counter shaft in and the gear was rubbing on the extension housing. so I'm going to remachine the front extension and I think I'll be see. the gears and synchros look fine. tbs
-
ok I just completed the sx trans swap but I filled it with moble 1 75 90 and its hard to shift and makes noise. and screams in third gear. So I switched to castrol 80 90 and its a little better but same issues are still there. well I ordered up some MT 90 for it. My question is should the MT 90 fix my problems or is it time to tear that tranny apart and go through it. The trans is a 92 and has like 100K on it and came from a very very very nice salavge company. I've already had a peak inside with the front extension off and everything looked great. guys any thoughts? tbs
