on a 1978 280z...straight pipe...the only way to go! sounds sexy as hell around 5500rpm......yummmmmm...i get hard everytime the rpm's climb up in that neighborhood lol. and at night if i romp on her and let her climb to right above 6k, and shift...you can see a mini flame comin out:twisted:...accompanied by the boomstick noise! i live in arlington, tx...between dallas and ft. worth , in mediocre suburbia...and i have never been hassled(knock on wood) for my pipe... jeremy

what do u mean a nasty kink? as in the hose was kinked(sharp bend) somehow, or there was some serious buildup inside the hardline? im kinda having the same problem with reving and definetly shes gettin some pms when revving under load...my 280z had been sitting since 1991, and i swapped my 1983 280zx motor into it. not to thread jack...but about the FPR. i have a pressure guage on a t-fitting between the main filter and the manifold. with the vacuum hose on the FPR attached to the manifold, my fuel pressure will read something like 26psi. when i romp on the gas itll go up to about 30psi, then immediately back down to ~26. if i take the hose loose from the manifold and just have it open to atmosphere, it will read exactly 36psi all the time, romping gas or idling. is my FPRs diaphram gone? also, i know i need to clean all electrical connections and do efi bible diagnostics as i have not done that yet. im getting some nasty frontfire when i rev the motor. its only on initial rev, between like 2000-2500rpm. i retarded the timing and frontfire got worse, advanced a timing a little and it got slightly better. ive checked my intake vacuum and its at 20mmHg, and i have sprayed carb cleaner on all possible places for vacuum leaks that i can think of, with no change of rpm. so i dont think i have a leak. any ideas besides the obvious(efi bible/contact cleaning)? emaster, u may run into a problem similar to this once u get over the current problem...so this is sorta relevant to your initial post. sorry bro!!! i owe ya a brew! lol

cygnusx, the part of your diagram labeled 'mostly prewired FIrelay'...is that part of the 83zxt harness? over near the battery? or up under the dash? it does help me understand how to work this problem some more...thank you. and ps...its NOT crappy!!! lol jeremy

i am going through this same thing, except with a 78. i bought a 83 280zxt 2+2 automatic that was wrecked and am in the process of pulling the harness. what did you do when you got your harness...in regards to the wires/connectors that go right near the battery and back towards the cabin, but inside the fender(not sure if thats the right term)im not going to cut anything, and am wondering if im going to have to get up under the passengerside dash to disconnect something. im searching this topic right now, actually how i came across this post. maybe we can help each other

smoorhs02 replied to a topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
where at specifically in dallas? im in arlington, between ft. worth and dallas. right off of i-20 and park springs. i have a 78 that ive been working on, thats sat since 1991 lol. have had some problems similar to yours but have gotten just about everything worked out. still havin issues with frontfire, but i need to clean all connectors(like mentioned above) and do the efi bible tests, and hopefully can get that worked out. if youre not to far from me maybe we can meet up sometime, help each other out if possible. jeremy -
i agree. what do you plan to crank her up to? different stages/boost...and what are your ultimate goals for your baby? jeremy

Spindle Pin Locking Bolt
smoorhs02 replied to Challenger's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
spindle pins? i ordered mine the msa or black dragon, cant remember, and total was like 70 i believe. they had nissan stickers on them when i opened the box. so you did get the pin out, thats good. my car has been sitting since 91 but it has practically zero rust that ive noticed. ive been all over the car. the guy i bought it from said it sat under a tarp and udner a car port (but no tellin if thats true or for how long if it is). the lock bolt came out really easy on one side and easier then i thought it would on the other. im being real pessemistic(spelling?) about the whole rear suspension upgrade. just expecting to run into problem after problem, but so far its been easier then i couldve imagined. having no rust to speak of helps out a lot i assume, but i havent takin my pins out yet so im still holding my breath! been busy gettin another parts car. gonna go pick up a 280zxt right about the time hurricane ike gets to where i live. fun fun. should be interesting. anywayz, if you can take any pics id like to see what youre up against as far as rust and whatnot goes. thanks man, later jeremy -
i understand whats being said, for the most part. tony, you rule! keep it up guys, i want more info! jeremy

Spindle Pin Locking Bolt
smoorhs02 replied to Challenger's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
put the nut back on...tighten back up pretty good, then use a hammer to hit it...then back the nut off...hit it...repeat. i did this exact same thing weekend before last.well it was actually laborday morning, between 1-5am. i took out the entire rear suspension including diffy, moustache bar etc. everything. her bare rear end is so tempting! lol...im givin her somethin back there tho:twisted:...since shes so sexy! lol its pretty easy to take everything out. just be careful and dont get in a rush. youve looked at blue's website right??? http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/suspension/rearend/index.html thats the document ive been using. i havent had time to get the spindle pin out but you can use a bolt as a drift on both ends to loosen it up somewhat, blue talks about using a hacksaw and sawzall to cut it at certain places... pm me with pics of what yove done so far and ill do the same this weekend if i get a chance. we could prolly help each other out a lot with ideas and what not. remember...be safe! ive had my wrist/hand crushed between the gas tank and a faulty floorjack....becuz i was being a dumbbbbass and got in a rush. definetly not fun. i hit my baby with my other hand after i got the one gettin pancaked out!!! and i hate spousal abuse lol jeremy -
i just dont capitalize while on the internet or texting, and i use a lot of.......lol. helps seperate thoughts and anything else not deemed a sentence. but back to the topic at hand, ive worked most of my electrical gremlins out, i just need a cleaner, more intact harness! if anyone has a 78 FI wiring harness they dont want/need thats in fairly good condition hit me up, cuz i need one pretty bad! my 78 has sat for the past 17+ years. thats what the registration and inspection say on her anyways. 1991. i didnt even know what a z was in 1991, besides a letter! but midnight, any updates on your progress? i wouldnt try the rb swap till youre more familiar with the car. and i mean REALLY familiar. imo, i think someone needs to understand their own car fully inside and out, bottom to top, front to back, side to side, and any other way you can think of...before doing something as drastic as a completely different motor install. also, i would recommend fixing most things before going that route. would be kinda crappy to get that motor in and driving it around, with all sorts of things going wrong, squeaking, clunking etc...but thats just me. jeremy

i like daerons idea the best, as long as to much material isnt takin away from the flanges. i forsee problems if you get one side too thin...id like more people to post ideas...anyone? i had daerons idea in my head as soon as fitment issues were talked about. the elbow idea is also good in my opinion, but how big are we talking? angling which way? directly up and down or 'twisted' a little? think people, think! jeremy

if you charge the battery then put it in it wont even start? internal or external voltage regulator alternator? i had a 77 that got wrecked and it had a f54 block/p90a head...found a 78 for cheap...(registration and inspection still say aug 91 on them lol...but sshhhh!!!)so it hadnt been driven in a while. anywayz...when i dropped the motor in the 78 it would run and ive driven around a lil(ssshhh)but it wouldnt hold a charge. the alternator i had was externally regulated, got an internally regulated one and bingo....charge light went off, stayed off, and have no problem cranking or running the car. i doubt this is your problem...but make sure you check it out if you havent already. dont want to risk a fire or messing anything up...im surprised i didnt lol jeremy

i have no clue but would imagine something to that extent. lighter car + more power = better mpg...if you keep your right foot away from the floorboard...but like i said i have NO clue.

punctuation, grammar, and spelling... not trying to be rude man but...damn! im having some electrical problems as well on my 78...let the fun begin! jeremy
