  1. I can vouche for Josh's concerns about doing everything RIGHT on the drive... DWG Police Suck!!! Many a times Ive been pulled over for stupid things, or friends have. Things like too many fog lights for the street(2 werent even on and my friend hadnt taken them off when he put the new ones on). Randomly getting stopped for ABSOLUTELY NO reason...stupid small town cops trying to make their quota!!! GRRR Anywayz...be safe!
  2. When is it ever a GOOD thing when something on a motor breaks? Only thing I can think of is it gives incentive to upgrade:-o Jeremy
  3. I agree with Challenger about being specific. I dont know jack really about those things, Ive dabbled into each one of those areas, but never get very far due to my own preferences...Im currently doing bodywork on my Z. I would recommend however, to search on one specific area of your post at a time...dont try and search for everything all at once...becuz you will get no where thata way! What are your overall goals?...Where do you want to end up? Also...stating the obvious...allot a good deal of money for unexpected costs...theres nothing like a nice costly suprise, right in the middle of your build...to throw a wrench in the gears! Jeremy
  4. I like! Complete change-over? What ideas are brewing? Progress is something to be had, less of!
  5. I wasnt comparing the stock to the Fidanza. The stock is I think 24lbs?I dont remember...the Fidanza is 10.5lbs. The Fidanza was not the control in the experiment mentioned. Having the mechanical clutch installed and off the car was...and from my personal experience...yes, having no mechanical fan on the car made a noticeable difference. Im not saying much..but I could feel it. Also...who said anything about a 280zx? Read my signature next time:) Also...i did both runs about an hour apart...so its not like i did the run with the mech fan on the car in 105degree weather...and the run without the mech fan at 30degree weather. Everything under my control was the same Jeremy
  6. I have a f54/p90a in my 78 280z. I got a Fidanza flywheel and installed it. When I first drove it I had no fan, and could tell a noticeable difference with no stock mechanical fan, compared to having the stock mechanical fan installed now. I need to get an electric fan and install, but currently in the process of painting the car and will address that issue later on. Jeremy
  7. MotorSportAuto sells downpipes. But you knew that from searching. Id keep the oil cooler just incase. Probably dont need it in the beginning...but Im sure if you keep wanting more power youre going to need it eventually! Better safe then sorry:) What do you mean about the fuel tank? The t3/t4 question...look on here in the for sale area, youll eventually find it lol. Find some members that have done everything youre lookin at doing(specific year car doesnt matter for most of your questions)and read their posts. This will probably help you out with IC & plumbing, MS components/install. Just my 2 cents... Jeremy
  8. Damn, thats not cool. JC...did you know him?
  9. For starters...you need to be more specific with your post. What year car? Be more detailed overall...even if it is not completely relevant for your post. People around here LOVE details...My point is if you ask a really vague question...youre probably going to recieve a very vague answer! And being a newb is no excuse...Ill be nice(trust me...others wont be) and say...Will you please search before posting...Not tryin to be an a$$hole, just tryin to give you some advice. Jeremy Maybe broken ring, causing the piston to slap around inside the cylinder??
  10. Niccceee! I have wondered exactly what compresor surge meant for some time now...just never got around to looking it up lol. If I thought about it, it was while I was away from the comp. In the future I plan on going over to a turbo motor...but have a few more stages to complete before I begin to get into that area! But what you said made a lot of sense, and even if youre off somewhat on the explaination...I, at least learned something! Jeremy
  11. So what are you gonna do with your Solstice (correct car...right?) seats?
  12. Challenger...Id have to agree with you for the most part lol. It is different tho...
  13. Damn, that guy waited 7 YEARS for a response haha!
  14. The Revolution guages are an option I went thru a few weeks back...but Ive opted to keep my stock tach and speedo. In my current 280, none of the lighting has worked in any of the guages, and I didnt know why until about 3 weeks ago when I finally got around to removing the dash. The connector for the rheostat has a bubble in it, like it over heated or surged, and its not making the connection! When I put my L28e motor in I had off my other 280, and got everything ready for start up, my chassis ground wasnt good enough and caused some crazy sparks lol. Got it on video to(first time starting her up). Anywayz, Ive kept the stock guages and am currently doing what KTM has done with a LED lighting upgrade. Time consuming and frustrating, but if I can get it to work, I think I will be very satisfied. The speedometer is 90% done (with 16 LEDs in total) and testing it with some battery packs it looks better than I expected. Just another thought... Jeremy
  15. Drive during the daytime to use less batt power! Simple enough right? Less fun I know, but itll help get you there. Yes I agree, check for corrosion and loose connections/ bad grounds. What year and model is this? I have a 78 280z that Ive redone just about everything to get her street legal. I had issues with the brakelights and turn signals, then found the problems and fixed them. The electrical system for my 280 is pretty simple, but very tedious. Goodluck and post the problem when you find it. Jeremy
  16. coil perhaps? vac leak? i sorta have this same issue on my 78...regarding the bucking and crappy rev. she will hesitate and frontfire right above idle but after about 3200 or so she takes off like a jet. have u cleaned all electrical connectors on the harness? i have yet to do this because the whole rearend is ripped apart, and about to get put back together with new suspension and bushings. if you havent checked the coil check that, and for vac leaks, then clean all electrical connectors, then find the FI bible and do all the diagnostic checks. and check fuel pressure. supposed to be around 36psi...hope this helps. jeremy ps - where is mineola, tx at? im in arlington, between dallas and ft. worth. if youre local maybe we could me up sometime.
  17. damn! thanks for tryin jg...so what are your options to get it to fit your car?id like to see it installed and in your car if/when you ever get it completed...as well as dyno info if youre able...thanks again for the effort jeremy
  18. yes you can put the auto ecu with a manual transmission. the main(only?) difference between a manual ecu and an automatic ecu is that when you go to shift gears...the rpm's will drop off faster. supposedly it makes your shifts not as smooth...but i have no experience with this. i have a 83 zxt that im pulling all turbo related parts, as well as other 'upgrade' parts...to put into my 280z. it has an automatic transmission, so i will be dealing with this same issue sometime next year...i just got done workin on the zxt overnight and my lamp broke, and spent like 3 hours fumbling around with a baby light...barely bein able to see is a PITA. but the motor is almost ready to be pulled, and i can get that busted up ugly car out of my grandmas driveway. jeremy
  19. on the new tv show testees, on the first episode, there was i believe a brown 280z for a few seconds fishtailing in sorta slo-mo...guess someone installed some lsd action...but pretty damn cool non the less. jeremy
  20. a/c??? whats this a/c you speak of??? lol..come on now, it only gets 105 here in dallas...not tooooo bad:?. drive in excess of 10mph with the windows down and youll be fine! jeremy
  21. jerry at all Z is a cool guy...i live about 5 minutes from his shop. he can be pretty pessimistic at times tho...but i guess that can be a good thing. total, between my Zs...i have around $7k...and a year and a half invested. the 78 that i plan on turning into my DD has sat since 91, with a badass body. im currently redoing the suspension and bushings...and have only driven that car ~40miles between dropping my f54/p90a in and rippin her back apart for the suspension. all drives have been for 'test' purposes, between 9pm and 6am...ok i wont lie...some drives were for motivational reasons...she still isnt legal (hence midnight drives) so i take it easy...and yes i can agree, do SMALL projects...dont do what i did lol. also, make sure your DD is actually reliable...i have all the parts i need to keep me busy with the project for a while...but now i am stuck saving for a reliable DD to get me to work and school(gotta love mom and dad's generosity and understanding)...so the project is on a financial break at the moment. and i will emphasize...make sure you have a place to work on/store your car/extra and spare parts...my 2 Zs and my zxt are at my grandmas...and i have had at least 2 there for a year. .be grateful for anyone who is willing to help you out...sorry for the ramble guys...just some of what this project has taught me and allowed me to learn... jeremy
