  1. In plain terms: are all 240z/260z/280z seats the exact same size???? Can I use the 72 upholstery vinyl kit (ebay) to recover a set of 77 seats? thanks for any tips!
  2. How much do you want for those front fenders?
  3. I like the front. Just imagine... black primer, a healthy rumble of a SBC, stock height, fender mirrors... it'd be one MEAN looking Z. The rear looks iffy tho. Paint them and put them on ebay, lol!
  4. If you had never done this kind of work before, expect it to take about 10 times longer then planned. (speaking from a personal experience) Get some paint stripper, gloves, a razor scraper with extra blades and sandpaper. Start by doing one panel to get a feel for it - IT IS a time consuming job. I'm doing my car the same way now... its not THAT difficult, but very time consuming, especially at first. Flat panels like doors and the roof are relatively easy, but curves do take alot of effort if you want it to look nice. Black primer all the way!
  5. that website is down.. how did you find out about them? Are they an importer of "JDM" parts?
  6. What do yall think about these beauties? 1) 2) How much is 10,000 yen????
  7. Just wondering if anybody has made their own custom fender mirrors (or altered some stock version from another car?) Please share any ideas, mild to wild. Oh and why not use the "regular" fender mirrors? Because they're terribly over-priced. And too popular. I want something different... any ideas?
  8. mine should be in my icon.... let me see if I can find a better close up pic. about 4 hours polishing each one.. but results were worth it.
  9. Thanks for the tips guys... Sumo how did you make that grill? Can you post some close up pics? That looks bad-ass, I sense another metal shop project!!
  10. I'm in Northwest Houston, about an hour away from downtown (with no traffic) - yeah right! The spacers/mounts are coming out pretty decent, Im taking my time and doing it the right way. The only thing is that they're heavy - all we got is steel plates in 1/4" and 1/2" thickness..
  11. You might wanna hold off on that engine stand just untill you become better at welding! Dont want a 400 pound engine dropping cause of a bad weld.. (I accidently broke one of our engine stands today while leaning on it) The $#%@er was welded so bad the base and then one of the support arms just came apart. Go figure...
  12. Just started making my motor mounts/spacers in metalshop today. Can anyone tell me just how precise the pieces HAVE to be to the book specification? One of my first .5 inch spacers turned out to be 3 and 7/8 instead of the whole 4 inches.. is this OK or does each piece have to be perfect (or close to perfect?) What do you guys think.. is 1/8 that critical to start over? Thanks for any advice guys. oh and any tips on making them - please share!
  13. Has anybody put 300zx seats in their 240/260? How do you make the driver's electrical connector work? Does it just hook up to 12v (its got a wierd, 4 contact socket type connector....) Or would it be better to just get rid of all those electric motors and install manual adjusters? Any ideas? All I got are two very nice seats, no wiring of any kind.. Thanks for any tips guys.
  14. Guys what would be the best way to polish the SU intake manifold? heres what I tried so far... with not so good results 1. 100grit sanding discs on my hand held 'dremel' rotary - but they fall appart after 20 seconds of sanding. and leave deep gouge marks. 2. steel wool by hand - dont even ask 3. sandpaper - cant get to the curved areas I'm gonna dry wire brushes (still waiting for them to come in) but if any body has ANY ideas on how this is done the easy way, Im all ears..
  15. also can anybody suggest a good book about Webers?
  16. Can someone explain the diference? I have heard some people say the DCOEs are better and some say DCOMs are more advanced, but no one seems to have any facts or first hand experience! Can anybody explain?
  17. Can anyone recomend a nice re-build kit for the early type twin SU's? I got an extra set for my 260 and want to polish them up and clean everything. I might as well replace all the seals and "freshen" them up while Im at it. Any tips on which kit's the best bang for the buck??? thx for any info.
  18. Polished them myself.. took me about 8 hours a wheel to do. By the way, does anybody know the name of these? Or what center caps fit? If anybody wants me to, I can polish your rims for about 60 each plus 15 bucks for supplies. Shoot me an email if you're in Houston and interested. oh and sorry for the crappy pic(my camera sucks), the wheels look way better in real life.
  19. ok heres how i tune mine.. may not be the best method but it works. first of all you need to find your fuel mixture adjustment knob. should be a little wheel with grooves, on the very bottom of the carb. imagine it as a screw: when you turn it all the way out it makes that one carb run richer. when you turn it all the way in (to the left, counter clockwise) the carb will run leaner. let the car warm up take off the air cleaner disable the choke mechanisms (or just make sure they're not stuck or in the way) turn off the engine now turn both mixture adjustment wheels on all the way toward LEAN (turn counter clockwise) when you're sure they can't go any more, turn both of them about 2 and a half turns toward the richer side (clockwise) start the engine adjust the airflow of each carb so it matches the other (get a unisyn tool or just do it by feel) ok now heres the tricky part and where everybody will have their own favorite way of doing it: what i do is set the revs to about 1000 and slowly and evenly start making the car richer (turn both knobs evenly clockwise, keep track of turns) you should hear the engine run better, and the rpms will rise lower the rpms back to 900-1000 throught the airflow, keep measuring to make sure its even rev the engine periodically to annoy the neighbors eventually you will find a point where richening the mixture will no longer provide an increase in RPMs. go just a tad towards the lean throttle response should now be instant and crisp set your idle to about 800 and go for a ride. should feel like a whole new car also, an important thing to check for is the dampner oil levels (i refilled mine with tranny fluid and its working great) let us know how it goes.
  20. thanks alot for the advice guys! NO, I havent totally fixed it yet, im gonna pull the gas tank (again!) after I get home from work. It doesnt leak as long as I don't fill it up more then half way, but I hope to fix it by this sunday. Wish me luck guys, i'll need it.
  21. thanks guys, that was exactly what I needed to find out! I'll post some pics for yall when I'm done polishing it... should be *soon*
  22. where would you go about getting those chemicals?? I ended up sanding it, it WILL take a while tho...
  23. ok i would like to hear any and all advice on how to do it! So far I have tried: using sand paper (takes wayyy too long), a paint stripper that worked so-so but left many areas that won't come off, and a homemade flamethrower (dont laugh! i thought it would just burn in off, but it didnt help a bit) Obviously none has worked good. any ideas? If anybody knows how to do this the easy way, please share! thanks.
  24. well, when u're 17 and trying to save up some cash for that engine swap while makeing 40 bucks once a week, it IS a big deal! seriously, if anybody here feels like they got a disagreement with a few bucks....just mail them to me
  25. looking nice! what airdam is that in the front? What paint did you use on it? Did you primer it? I'm aksing because my front lip's paint is going to hell from it bending at twisting so much. the volvo ICs seem to go right about 50-60 ish on ebay, well at least i shouldnt be in the negative!
