  1. my fake wood sucks as well.. I tried searching can't find. Going to experiment on my own I guess.
  2. I guess you get what you pay for.. Im gonna try to find a used cabinet tho.
  3. a couple reasons: you loose ability to buff out scratches. rust can form - just look at any old chrome wheels. chrome itself can be chipped away by debris, rocks etc. last but not least, you're adding weight. if you do polishing right it will stay perfect for maybe a day, at least here in Houston. But take some Mother's and it all comes back. Even a week or a month after you polished them. give us some pics in either case!
  4. to sandblast all this $^*# Air compressor is a Craftsman 6.5 HP 60 gallon, 11.5 scfm @ 90 psi. Not bad for $300. Anybody got a sandblaster cabinet near Houston that they wanna get rid of? Also looking for all sorts of quality air tools and a hydraulic jack...
  5. tried searching... I must be blind? or no one has posted anything? Is there any advice on how to go about restoring a fake wooden wheel? (from a 260z but 70-78 is all same) I really want to learn to do it myself! thanks for any ideas...
  6. I used sandpaper from 100 grit to 600 grit then fine steel wool then buffing wheel with mother's aluminum polish compund. Any advice on refurbishing center caps????
  7. hm I was hopeing to erase that contrast. But its just too dang hard. Also any advice on center caps? Even the "good" ones on ebay look not so good - the finish on them is 20-25 years old!! NOS ones are out of my budget. there has to be a way. what can I use to safely remove the old chrome/ paint? [without hurting the plastic..!] anybody out there?
  8. how much does a PERFECT black dash out of a 88 Z31 2 seater go for? there's one at our local pick-a-part.. just wondering if it might be worth the pain of pulling it. It is in perfect condition..... anybody know? I don't want to pull if its worthless any z31 people chime in please!
  9. What you guys think? I still have to do the other three but this one turned out NICE. the pic kinda sucks tho.. Has anybody ever polished the inside space between the spokes? If you have a pic can you post it? I was going to do that but its sooo much work I want to see how'd it look first. Also, does anybody know how to restore the center caps for our Zs? mine are OK but starting to flake and peel. any advice would be apreciated!!
  10. I just read the last 15 pages of this post. With respect to all viewpoints, heres my contribution to this matter: In my opinion, this country is the most priceless, the most dearest notion of freedom and liberty that exists in the world. Im not saying its perfect. But I dare you to find a better, a more prosperous, and a SAFER country to live in. The PA is a small cancer to this country. I think we have to cut out the cancer before it can spread. If we allow cancers like this to spread, we will start going downhill very fast. The less control you grant other people over what you do, the better. I was born in USSR. I'll be the first to say that there exists some stupid, incomprehensible satisfaction in being part of a herd. But only untill you realize that nothing ever was acomplished by a herd. When you realize that, and gain self controll and self respect as an individual, and satisfaction in NOT BEING A PART OF SOME HERD, then you become what I can say is an American. The power of America and why this country is what it is today is because of individuals. Basicly it works like this: You get what you earn (what did you get acomplished?) In USSR and in other countries rotted with socialism, you get what your neighbor-herd-government thinks you deserve. No one cares what you acomplished. If you actually DID acomplish something and made an invention, an improvement, etc, they will say the Herd invented it. The Herd did it. Not you. You get what they think you should deserve. Get it? Dont forget that simple fact. To me, the PA just smells like a small step towards the "left". If some one can explain why it is not I will admit that I am wrong. When you take an individual's rights away, you take away a part of the individual. No matter what or how small the rights you take away. In this case we're dealing mostly with privacy. Without individualism and everything that it stands for, you're going to end up in a socialist herd conforming sphere. A small step to the left (herd mentality/communism/people's parties/socialism) will require many painfull steps in the reverse direction to get things back like they were. If thats possible...
  11. I've always used chemical strippers to get the paint off. Has anybody used a heat gun? How well do they work in comparison? What brands would you recomend? Price range for a decent one? The material I'm working on is almost always aluminum alloys (wheels), but sometimes steel and very rarely wood. thanks for any ideas about this..
  12. how well did it fit and how did you link it to the pedal? thanks. would a stock 260 M.C. work for now?
  13. Ok we got the engine running (!!!!!!) just need it driving now.. transmission is a world class t-5 from a camaro, engine is from a burb. =) Any recomendations on a functional hydraulic master clutch?? ANYTHING will help, just tell me what you guys are using on your stickshifts. The MC I have now is the wierdest P.O.S. I have ever seen, it looks homemade and is locked up.
  14. We got her to run, thanks Jeff!!!! and thanks for the tips everyone.. and no I don't have "ANY" of the wiring.. lol. Oh what a feeling of firing up a 350 with open headers...
  15. my question is: what wires do I HAVE TO HAVE for it to fire. I will mess with it tommorow but it'd sure help if someone could tell me "what goes where" before. Thx..
  16. I forgot to mention I have no wires left, they were all removed (10 pounds of trash.) Again, I am starting from "nothing" and just need the darn thing to fire! The tach can wait for now... how do I get it to just fire?? I do have the jtr book but it was not specific about the HEI wiring and my friend confused the #@$% out of me by saying it grounds through the spark plugs themselvs? huh?
  17. Hey guys, I'm using a generic toggle switch for the HEI ignition and my question is: where does the HEI ground?? MY friend says it's either through the actual sparkplugs or the hold down clip that touches the block. Which one is it and how have some of you wired HEI directly?? Or do I have it totally wrong and need to make a solid ground somwhere?? thanks for any info.
  18. Is anybody 100% sure on this one...? I have ordered and received a 6.75 inch harmonic dampner for my 350 (or so I thought) but on the box it says "for use with 400sbc's"... Can I still use it, or is the balancing needed totally different from a 350?? thanks.
  19. on a 74 260, there are three wires going to the fuel level gauge: yellow, black, and green. Can anybody tell me how to wire the gauge directly to the fuel tank?? this is my guess: black - ground on one of fuel level unit terminals. yellow - hook on the second terminal. green - power source?? any electrical experts can you second that or do I have it wrong? any advice is very very much welcome! thanks in advance. also.. how do I hook up the ampmeter??
  20. thanks for the info, this was driving me crazy. (spent about an hour trying to beat the darn thing together, I got very close but never just right how it was, lol) thanks again.
  21. When I removed the correct diameter balancer req'd per the JTR manual (less then 7.25 inches), it came apart in three pieces. The outer metal disc with drilled holes got seperated from the inner solid disc, with the rubber gasket which was between the two apparently. Now I have 3 pieces I can't put back together. What have I done wrong? How do I put it back together? I have to put it on my built motor now (also a 350) and am totally lost on how to do it... everything is ready...except this one little piece driving me insane! I tried beating the piece back into "one", but had no luck at all.. my questions are: 1.how do I assemble it again?? 2. how do I install it? What tools what you recomend? thanks for any help.
  22. I have an 89 350, from a burb, with stock bottom end and stock heads, Edelbrock performer intake, shorty headers, and a brand new 600cfm Edelbrock carb. Any ideas about increasing the hp/torque without digging in the motor?? What are some common cheap mods you guys have done or would recommend?? ABOUT how much power would this motor make as of now? thanks for any tips.
