  1. From seeing them in their respective cars, the VK50 appears to be a larger displacement VK45, and the VK56VD appears to be a regular VK56DE block with VVEL and DI heads. I have not been inside either engine yet though.
  2. Got started sorting out the engine harness over the weekend.
  3. It might be more legal now than before since the M now has a VK56 option.
  4. Buttoned up the body wiring harness(starter, alternator, ac compressor, fans, battery, cruise, temp gauge, oil pressure gauge, etc...) tonight. Hopefully this weekend I can get started on the EFI harness, I've already stripped the L28 section out of it.
  5. The Z33 6sp weighs marginally more than the S130 5sp trans(about 25lbs). The engines are much closer to the same weight due to the I6 block being cast iron and the VK being all aluminum.
  6. Here is my work in progress S130 560ZX. My goal in this is to have a bad ass Nissan late model V8, that is 100% daily driver friendly(total stock/sleeper look with no loss of daily driveability or creature comforts. I love this engine. It has huge ports, a large bore, over square design, 6 bolt mains, and has been extremely reliable. I also own a Titan. I was also tired of seeing this awesome engine only swapped into purpose built race cars with no driveability or accessories. This car will have cruise, ac, power steering, and all working gauges. I'm a swap purist and believe a Nissan chassis deserves a Nissan engine. Based on what I've seen, this may be the first VK into an S130 as well as the first fully functioning street car/dd VK56. My warnings to those who would attempt this, it is not a brainless swap. Almost everything is one off and has to be built, fabbed, wired, programmed, etc... I would not recommend this swap in this chassis to anyone but the most knowledgeable. The engine is huge and difficult to fit. Clearance is tight around the accessories. The parts are all unique, and you'll need lots of patience and a place for this time consuming project to live. In retrospect, I should have just done a VQ35DE or RB26DETT, but that wouldn't have been as cool. Pros: big torque, solid engine combo, newer engine. Cons: difficult to get running, expensive, everything has to be fabbed. There are two basic options for this swap: 1-Use all Titan wiring and control units(ECM, BCM, IPDM) Which would also require use of the stock throttle chamber (DBW), pedal, auto trans, ABS, etc...; and 2-Aftermarket standalone ECM allows you to do anything to the engine's manifolding and requires minimal wiring. This also makes it easier to integrate into the vehicle's chassis wiring, as well as use a manual trans. As far as power train mounting, there is no good spot for this engine in this chassis. You can go for oil pan clearance, lose hood clearance, and have to cut out part of the tunnel to get the drive line angle correct. Or, you can go for hood clearance(although not by a lot), build a lower pan, lay the upper pan almost on the steering rack, and have good drive line angles. Right now all that I have left(hopefully) to get the car running is to finish the engine harness and integrate it into the S130's EFI harness. 7. The auto bell housing won't bolt to the manual trans.
  8. You definintely can get the BCM from another Z of the same production run. You will need someone with access to a Nissan Consult II in order to program what ever keys you have to the new BCM when you are ready to run. After it's running, you should probably have that same person clear the fuel trim self lean and do an idle air volume relearn because of the changes in exhaust, intake, and ECM.
  9. Since there are so many questions on wings, air dams, and body kits, a lot with old/broken links and pics, could we get a moderator to make a sticky thread for nothing but S130 wing, air dam, and body kit pictures?
  10. No reason why it wouldn't work with a short shifter, it's designed to accept all stock components. You'll need to keep the drive by wire if you're using the stock ECM. If you're running a standalone, then go with a cable operated throttle.
  11. Listed on this site as a ZXR wing, but doesn't look it, especially since it has a wiper cutout. Anyone have a picture of it on a car? http://www.zccjdm.com/catalog.php/azcarbum/dt81970/pd2109135/280ZX_R__280ZX___JDM_REAR_SPOILER_TAIL_
  12. Found some good info on the HID search, they just all have outdated links to particular kits. Just hoping for some first hand experience.
  13. Any of you used one of these or something similar? http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/EA29/33-2065 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220515145116&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
  14. Or you could use a standalone ems and it would not matter what year engine you get. (as tuning goes of course)
  15. It's the same thing. Nissan calls that rev up engine produced in the 07+ Z33 VQ35HR.
  16. I would really like to see one of these completed. I've sure seen to damn many SBC swaps into ShoveIts.
  17. You said the engine is an 06 non rev up, but the picture with the ITBs is definitely an 07+ VQ35HR. It has the four cam variable timing on the front cover.
  18. Very cool. I always wondered about the original stated mpg.
  19. The nut and bolt method tends to slam the brake and clutch switches a little hard, so should only be used as a temporary fix. It's a pretty common part used in all kinds of cars so most Nissan dealers keep it in stock.
  20. I think most people's slop is just worn components. My 83 with ps is very tight and responsive now after replacing everything that was loose and badly worn in the front end. Both outer tie rods, rack bushings, tension rod bushings, ball joints, and repacked the wheel bearings. With these cars you really have to expect things like this to be worn.
  21. Try ebay for the wheels. There are a few sellers on there selling the sport max wheels in 4x114.3
  22. I'm thinking they are 10x1.5.
