  1. youll KILL that mustang! i run a edelbrock performer cam and manifold with stock camel hump heads and a holley dp 650. i have had better races with some of the civics and mr2's out here than with the mustangs, especially the 4.6's. your motor sounds a lot more vicious than mine does, you should pound that guy off the gate, and grab lengths on him in the gears, "break it in, and break him off!"
  2. i heard something like that myself, that the restorers liek those heads, old school hi-po and what not. i like the heads myself, i like how the 327 revs myself, sounds like a chainsaw when youre knee deep in the powerband!! love it love it!!! how much do you think a set would go for in decent condition? i rebuilt them about 30k ago...
  3. what davy said, kinda, i just sanded and cleaned mine really smoothly, and used rustoleum flat black spray paint, took me a day to prep and leave out in the sun to dry, and by nightime i was rockin the freeworld! you can go with silver, any silver will work well, my preference is with rustoleum aluminum-its kinda dull and dries smoother than chrome, i like black for that area, just paying homeage to my 67camaro heart transplant!!! oh, and if you want to fresh up the tailight covers while youre at it, use testor hobby paint-transparent candy apple red, or transparent metallic red, that will give you some sparkle and cleaness!
  4. ive got the 2.02's, think they flow pretty good, but yes, not as good as what they make today, in the way of aluminum heads and such,,,hey does the camel hump head legend mean that you have high hp type heads???
  5. what davy said...remember that a camaro weights about 3500lbs, z with v8 about 2600-2800 depending on year, and the t-5 for the 305 motor those years had 300lb rating, which kinda scares me, i want to run one but dont want to end up killing it really fast, but im sure with a mildly built 283 youll have second gear scratches for a good loong while.
  6. the 2+2 is the infamous datsun station wagon Z!!!
  7. yes, a lot of thought is going into the air cleaner issue, and those two holes in the front look like perfect points to run some piping to dual k n n filters!!!! yay. i am going to set it up something like that, but im carbed, im going to run an xstream lid and a k and n round filter inside the airbox with large tubes bent to come out those two holes, hey mr. haag, do you have a website, im very interested in tpi swapping!!!!
  8. i took the easy route. i got a gm temp sender and hooked it up to a autometer water gage, takes like ten minutes, now you can adapt it to fit the datsun, but im scared of those old datsun gauges!
  9. very nice z! we got the same color! what size are those tires, im going to swap a set of 15" enkies on the back tires, (baldos ) and i have coilovers in the back, you needed a spacer to fit them???? how wide are they 15x7??? hope mine clear without a spacer, nice job!!!! need to do some suspension work myself in the same areas you just covered.
  10. hey, ive tried to get the nismo catalog on line, its only in japanese and they dont do international orders yes, i know its really hard to get anything lower than 3.36 hes got a couple of them, but he wants some bucks for them....
  11. hey now hoover has an inliner that will spank a lot of us, not all of us, but a lot of us. but ill have to agree with the 78280z wont have to do as much to the frame, four deep mobbin always sounds fun, r200 and easier brake upgrades, i think those years hd better brakes, especially the 2+2's, just get rid of the bumpers,(maybe just the front) throw an airdam up there, and get past the smog man and youre coolin!!!
  12. thanx, sounds good for toyota calipers for me, just need to get these pictures up of those enkies, had to mount the back ones prematurely do to baldness, fit fine though im going with some good semi metallic pads with those toy calipers and ss lines, 15/16 bmc, and some good drum linings for now... ill email you with some pictures once i finish up this roll of film and get to a scanner. thanx for your help everyone
  13. smog laws have a direct effect on which year us californians can do the v8 conversion, generally 70-73 with 73 being the cutoff for smog, davy z has a 260 1974 which just necks him for smog. if you dont have emissions, man go get a 280zx, stronger frame, r200, and you are going to get those bumpers off arent(say yes) you can get those 280s really cheap , they are the most abundant, and really cheap, i think 240 owners tend to take really good care of their cars. man if you have 10k and do a lot of the work by yourself, 450hp is right under your left foot!!!
  14. there was an article in hotrod magazines latest issue about early turbo cars, they said that the stall had to be reset frm 2800 to 4300 because of the lag, but hey this 327 was twin turbo in the sixties and had 2.2 hp per inch!!!! hey there was also an article about carbed turbo in zcar.com somewhere, someone with a rotomaster turbo single su fed z boosting liek 40lbs or somthing lke that??? not the most efficient and definitely not good on the street, i think turbo is for teh efi crowd only, best way to manage the boost
  15. i would go into the suspension before even attempting to look for any of the drivetrain shocks springs, strut bars, a roll bar/cage subframe connectors(if you want, 300-50 or so horse with mild useage probably not) swap in an r200 geared for how you want to set up your car,, road racing, street racing etc. get all of that stuff nailed because when you have an 8 under teh hood with soem power, a somewhat soft suspension can turn into a nightmare, ive experienced it and im sure most of us have take these steps first, and if your car gets you around those mods will make your car feel a lot better and give you time to get the best prices on parts, also, swap out that stock radiator for a be cool or a camaro radiator or somethign, it will benefit you a lot in the long run and the short run, maybe even handle the brakes and tires, youre gonna need good sized tires the way you describe how you will use the car, and youll need to stop like youll go right??? welcome aboard and good luck!!
  16. i can see a lot of the guys on the site here and there cars are so modified that it only makes sense that they go all wheel disk with wilwoods or outlaws and what not, but there are a lot of us with what you might call your "average" hot rod, the low buck cruiser, in my case a daily driver that has a little bit of throttle. well, i cant afford anything like that in terms of a brake setup and have been looking into the 4x4 toyota swap, ive owned several toyota trucks and think that they brake exceptionally well, and could only imagine what good pads and solid lines could do for my Z,, but i never see much anything good written up about them except that they provide "even braking pressure" anyone out there acutally like their 4x4 setup??? and i also want to keep my drums and was wondering if anyone has upgraded the linings for some spirited driving, i do take a street race every now and again, and would like to have an upgraded braking system, but i cant afford to go nascar. hope i dont enrage anyone but i do hope to get some feed back, thankz yall
  17. im looking into fabricating an air ram system utilizing one of those air filtres some v8s had with the solid top and sides with the the air tube that comes out the side?? hope you know what im talking about, cant really describe much better. but im thinkinig about using the k and n xstream to replace the top of it, and then cutting that tube that comes out of the side to make it a little bigger, than fabricating some piping that will either exit in front of my front tires or through the front of the car by the grill, since i will still have an air filter inside the little unit on top of the carb, it wont be as likely to swallow a big drink of water when i hit a puddle and explode, ok thats my idea
  18. i think when he means balls out, he means all out built 3.1 n/a because you have to be rich to rock that. now that turbo l28t is a great motor setup if your going l28, to me thats the only way to do it, you can boost and get great hp and tq for a little less than that balls out all motor approach, and you make whining noises and blow off squirts when you shift and rev!!!! hey look at hoovers ride the l28 turbo monster, that thing is hard!!! scottie got boost too, love it love it, im telling you my next step is a gnx/t56 booooooostinggggggggggg!!! maybe not. but i do believe turbo is the way to go with an l28
  19. i know i know, but i am just curious, ill check the threads, btw, the coilovers are installed, only in the rears though, the previous owner installed them, i just have these two enkeis i want to throw some new rubber on before i pop my 14's!! ill check and thanx for your help
  20. hey what do you think the biggest tire i can run on a 72 240 with rear coilovers dropped an inch on 15x7 inch rims?? right now running 225-55-15, do you guys think 235-245 /50would fit up under there????
  21. hey mr. frog which t-5 are you using, is it one out of a iroc/firebird from 88-92, im super interested in getting me some OD, what is you rpm at say-70-75mph, and what rear ratio are you running?????/ thanx mr. frog.
  22. yeah, i forgot to say that the external linkage on my muncie was binding up because of tranny tunnel issues, causing the linkage to fail on me, making it at first really hard to shift, making me think it was an engagement/hydraulic issue with the clutch, which it was partly. i have since cut out and pulled out the tunnel and welded it back it with a small hump on the drivers side for clearance, a little clutch freeplay adjustment, and it shifts great, little notchy, but i can downshift at will.....richmonds shouldnt be that different, the cases look very similar and the external linkage is vere familiar..
  23. yes very notchy, downshifting is kinda hard compared to a t-5 /6 from a camaro, but not that hard, nuetral very small in those boxes, exactly like a muncie, but with a fifth gear and an overdrive if you go six speed.
