I am truely curious. If i wanted a 365 rwhp V8 zcar. How much money would the drivetrane cost including a five speed of sorts. I have heard that they are cheaper, but never really heard a number on the specs. Oh, and this would be an carbed V8 of course all depends on your mouthpiece and who you can connect it to and hypnotize into making your deal (translation: it can cost you your first born but if you have game, only an arm and a leg) get a 350 and 365hp is done rather easily with the aid of a high flow combo of heads, intake, and cam, other things add to horsepower as well like pulleys, headers, ignition, intake...it can be done with bolt-ons... and like it!. v8-$50-2500 t-5 200-1000(new) bellhousing 10-200 driveshaft (CHEAP) mounts and whatnots (500-1000) the smile on my face when i whoop that ass PRICELESS Leonard @sshole at large

evan, youre totally right, no matter what route you pick, it is not going to be cheap... the turbo l28et is a hot setup in itself, i love turbos. none of us here are purists, were into performance and we're not bound by labels, nor do we swear any kind of loyalty to anyone car manufacturer (cough) CHEVY (cough) and i may do an l28et one of these days,my buddy at the shop has a big turbo setup with the manifold that should be good for about 18lbs (cough)for sale (cough) hey it wont be cheap, but some routes are cheaper than others depending on who you know or what you know, or how you can work mouthpiece. i have a gang of fun in my z, and welcome to the board. hope you get it going, no matter what route you pick..good luck Leonard im on a pedestal, waiting to be knocked off, by you???

hey if you want any real power without a nascar budget, you want a v8, tthe swap is like any other swap, youwill need to upgrade the suspension and the brakes just as much as you upgrade the motor, i mean doesnt that just make sense? it makes dollars and cents to me. just remember this, it takes 5500 to send your car to rebello to have an NA 3.1 make 265hp(to the flywheel) which is really about 235 to the flywheel, and about 200 flat to the wheels, for 5500 and a little mouthpiece and any kind of game you can stick a v8 in a z with 300hp to the wheels, brake hard, and hang corners LIKE ME.J/k-a little. for the same money you put into just the motor on an l-series, you can swap to v8 power and outperform not only any stock or modified L-series Z(with the exception of a couple), but you will kick mopar, ford, and some chevy butt, not to mention hondas, nissans, mitsubishis, mazdas, bmws, and just about anyone else that thinks they want to play with fire. if you really want to spank fools, go with the gnx combo( the car it came out of runs a 13.4 stock and weighs like 4800lbs), upgrade the turbo and the injectors and you will hit low 12's with your arm out the window and bust into 11's with traction and some more tweaks, check scottie out, hes way the hell into the 11's ON AN R200....if only it came in stick......... hey those are my thoughts, i enjoy my z on a daily basis and drive it to get groceries and coffee on the regular, i run a really quiet exhaust and have been asked several times"how did you get the webbers to hum like that" and i respond by leaving them in a cloud of smoke through second, and sometimes, into third. try and make a straight six do that... i run a slightly better than stock 327 with a 1967 casting number, and it rocks! i think the only reason the purists bitch so much about putting a v8 in their car is cause they are scared of the truth...naw im kidding, to each his own, hope this helps. thanx guyz, yes the tpi is from a 350, but i dont think i can get it to perform over 6k without basically modifying it so much that it is an accel lingenfelter, man it sucks i can get that setup for pennies right now
-
what do they look like now? theyre used. im pretty interested in them, how much would shipping and stuff like that be, do you have a picture of them off the car?
-
wow, that looks cool and its not even done yet, very nice, im going with the vette irs myself, when i finally bust the r200. the shop where i work at has a couple vette irs setups, but you know my motto Leonard "you can only upgrade it when you disentegrate it"
-
i really dont think they had a stock tach that read to 10k, just get an autometer and most them are 10k.
-
got some photos of that? im interested in building up a turbo 240z, my great sensei at the shop has the fatman racing turbo with manifold and injectors hidden at the shop and i was just thinking, l28 boosting about 18psi would be kinda fun...turbo rubber baby show me....
-
i run a two bolt main 327, and i love it! Leonard "nothing wrong with being a two-bolter, right?"
-
its from a tpi350. it would have everything, actually i wouldnt need half the stuff that it would come with. that tpis is way too dang expensive man...wow! im going to bump up the cam to rev to about 6500-7000 new lifters valve springs(basically tearing him down and starting all over)-what would tpi need to supply the juice to pull at the high rpms??? lt1 runners are really nice, but out of my league at the moment, man if it really costs that much to make it work with my setup,im just gonna rejet the carb dangit!!! but i like how injection does it, very nice smooth and somewhat efficient, as efficient as it can i guess....
-
hey guys its me,more questions for you all. hey i have a chance to buy the tpi setup from one of my buddies at the shop, its the older style that will fit the older style heads. ive heard that it would probably only boost hp by about 20hp, with a different feel and responsiveness, does anyone know what the horsepower limit is on the stock setup?? ive heard that its the equivalent of a big two barrel carb, and wont push more than 250ish hp. im wondering if its worth it,i know that tweaking FI cost bucks. but i have the chance to pick up the setup for butt cheap, and the days are counting down to when i tear down 327 and resserect him into SUPER IMPORT SLAYER, in the JTR position, naturally. anyone who has or is working with the TPI feedback would be greatly appreciated.

dyno that bad boy hooover!!! you need to bring it by the shop too, last time you came by i told the other dudes that you had the 600hp l-series and they all really NEED to see it, and plus you could bring it by for a quote on that paint as well, and gimmie a wheel stand on your way out! Leonard -
im not upset or anything, just think that if you were going to do a swap and dont have hoover chan enterprises behind you, you would must likely be better off using motor trans and equipment that was oem in some car or another, and is plentiful, that is why most of us use our domestic product, a v8 will make 300 dependable hp in its sleep, the exotic swaps are beautiful, arent there a lot of rb26 z's out there? i know if i were to do that here it would be the 300zx tt motor or the gnx...good luck homie, keep us posted. Leonard if it dont make rubber than it dont make sense.
-
tuned i think it will make about 80hp or so to the wheels, with a much nicer powerband, who knows, if you have built engine, maybe 100 or so.
-
you guyz have it good out there rb motors, quad cam specialists tuners and what not, man, whats wrong with a land rover v8, you can make lots of power with those I mean, ITS NOT A CHEVY OR ANYTHING, but hey it could be a lot of fun, depending on your alloted dollar to horsepower ratio, i would go with whatever is abundant or whatever isnt, depending on said ratio, i would love to see a quad cam with a stick behind it that not ford, lexus v8 with a tremec behind sounds pretty hardcore, with a little boost and a little squeeze, man that would be something else.....thats how i see it, man i would go broke trying to make power out of those combos, motec this, sds that, bypass electrical this, adapter plate this...aghhhh whatevers clever gentlemen, i prefer keeping things simple, until my idea of simple isnt simple anymore...CHEVY=abundant in the USA Leonard Fairlady@5400cc...the pushrod dinosaur 30,000miles and counting baby!!!!

i dont know if there are too many, since we dont get the skyline here in the us. there are some, but you might need to brush up on your japanese.

hey buddy, just fixed that in my z, it may or may not be the front mount, it might be driveshaft to diff flange bolts! i was having those symptoms, and the bolts went and i was stuck in place for like two hours!! check those bolts, and the solid mount is also a very good idea, harsh it may be, but very potent. i bolted one up when i fixed those bolts, and its much stronger, a little noisy at times, but i feel better now i can launch the crap out of my car without fear! Leonard "been there, broke that"

yes, i still have the stock datsun rad and the engine propelled fan as well, and it runs pretty cool, about 162 on a 160 fan, but once i get into stop and go, it will rise up to about 180-200 if its bumper to bumper, hottest ive been is driving 100 degree temp( which is a fluke here in sf) is 220, and i was so hot my wrists were dripping sweat. for additional cooling i am going to install a small fan in front of the radiator, just to cool it off in the stop and go and at the track afer runs, the engine fan is very reliable to me, but a little fan can go a long long way. Leonard Technology? whats that?

im running the pertronics points upgrade, its great!, i dont know how it stacks up compared to an hei though, has anyone experienced both and could let me know? i really like pertronics, havent EVER touched it since the twenty minute install about a year and a half ago! that and a high torque starter, and i crank over faster than newer injected cars! but is hei better is my question???????

saw em, great site pete, dimensions and everything, and a great choice of motor!
-
hey i just cured that! mine was leaking out the back from the rear of the passenger side valve cover and looked was gushing down the manifold heads and block and dripping down to my exhaust pipes! i dont know if its the same problem we have here but i switched to taller valve cover gaskets and boom, all gone! hope this helps. dynamat!!!! that stuff is incredible, get the xtreme dynamat, my buddy insulated his tranny tunnal, floors, firewall, and doors with it in his 5.0 with headers and dual three inch flow masters- and you really cant hear sh*T! it blocks out the road completely and tranny noise, but you can still hear the noises that count, it kinda weeds out the unnessessary noises and you can still hear the ones you want to hear-so quiet, cant wait to do it to mine!!! jegs and summit have cheap alternatives, but you get what you pay for in that situation.

OOOOHHHH YEEESSSSS this is where i want to be ;>

big big money right there, and no mention of nitrous!!!!!!!!?????????? -
i think vette irs is cheaper than q45 swap, just need to change splines on the cvs and boom-posi rear have no fear baby! mounts would have to change, but hey, motor mounts had to change too right?? choice of gear ratios, posi, did i say posi already?
-
a little nitrous wouldnt hurt either, dont tell us it wont fit, they made a v8 fit didnt they?? if it dont work, make it work!!! Leonard
