ive heard too many nightmare stories about burning oil, running hot, and busting leaks,at the track meets where i saw rotary cars run, a couple had to stop due to heat,a couple started shooting black smoke, and one guys car just pooped on him, and these were all just about bone stock rx7s..... "no rotor, no motor"

    stony

hey stony, which are they im sorry, the tapered ones or the ones that stick out funny at the rockers, i like the tapered ones.
  3. i agree, DZ302 is a great great motor, if i didnt have a great running 327, it would be a 302 all dang day! i dont like the low end grunt in a z, i like em making power a little higher up, and thats what both motors do so well....
  4. dont let the steering column get in the way of your search to become the king of import racing....
  5. for a four bolt main, i dont know what they do to make them so, but i saw them advertised in hot rod, or super chevy, i was interested in them a lot for a split second, but then "mine aint broke" the 327 has a great sound to it and a nice power curve that lends itself great to a z. it revs a little faster than a 350 with a whole different response. from my experiences drivng 350 powered cars, (01 ss camaro, irocs, caprices) they make good power in this slow revving manner making gobs of torque down low, that is great, but the 327 sounds like a chainsaw ripping through its narrower powerband, from 3k-5800 its a pure symphony of power!!!!!! i launch that dog at 2800 with a minimal amount of tirespin(i do have to feather the clutch and modulate the gas out the hole) if you have the money, destroke that 327 and make it happen. 3892657-is the one for me! my 327 is out of the camaro, rs i think, the four barrel with the camel hump heads. its pretty stock high compresssion motor, if youre budget is pretty high skys the limit, my recipe for a cheap rev to 7500 all damn day motor is: steel crank steel rods 11-1 pistons the high performance solid lifter 327 vette cam (cost is cheap from just about anyone) and you gotta love em 2.02/1.60 camel hump heads, maybe get a valve job and street pocket porting, everything listed above is factory issue from the old school, a little hei and maybe use the dz 302 manifold (aftermarket ones are cheaper than weiand or holley) and a 650 carb and bolt up the muncie and get ready to take your crown! this should put out about 350-400hp and the same for torque, with high revving chainsaw powerband... you can find these blocks and heads everywhere, and all the other parts the same deal. if you really want to do it hard, stick a blower on it and use 8-1slugs and youll have closer to 500 horse with one carb! just my views, as i much as i like the 327, the LT1 keeps begging me to give him a chance. Leonard
  6. that 240sx v8 swap is a pretty cool idea i think, its got a tough rear, looks cool, and its rwd! whats not to like. i think you should do it, im trying to get my buddy out here to do it, but he is a scardy cat.... do it. tire spin is something we all have to live with, just learn to like it
  7. i dont like the idea of them at all, why do all that when you can just get a four bolt main 327, not that it would make much difference until you start making more than 500hp, are you?
  8. hey dont the supertrapps have baffles that you can add or take off for the sound level, i personally hate their looks, for me ill take either one super turbo muffler or two super turbo mufflers with 2 1/4 outlets with my setup now it just sounds like a inliner with timing issues....until he wakes up at about 3k...then he sounds like a 327.
  9. you can get four bolt main 327's but i think it would be a great idea to destroke the 350 into one, that may you have thicker cylinder walls, tougher i think. my buddy has a truck with a 383 that was really a destroked 400, and that mother hauled asses.....
  10. it depends on where you want to drive, if youre mostly in towner like MUNCIE 4 spd all the way, makes you feel like a man when you line the synchros just right and get that bang shift action going on, and you can get muncies for like 100 each from the boneyards, and the same bellhousing and hydraulics work with the dougnash t-10's and the infamous doug nash five speed, which is identical to the richmond five speed, which may be my next bang box of choice....economical(well, not on gas, but if you have a v8 you most likely threw that notion out the window anyway) and tough as nails, wide ratio boxes so you have the lowest first gear known to man for the launch into second rubber everytime, you could put money on it. my current setup is 327/m21/z28racing diaphram clutch-this clutch costs 156.00 with flywheel and grabs harder than a dual friction centerforce, all day, hasnt burned on me yet....remember this too, when a tranny is both cheap and tough, theres more money in the budget for tires! Leonard rock crusher-i broke that mustache bar-i broke that too, right down the middle baby.
  11. if anything, somebody has to make a hi-po light kit for the map light, dome light, and the inspection light underhood, right now all those lights are so dang dim man!@!!!!!! i really cant see nothing with those lights, the moon actually illuminates better than those dang lights man....
  12. maybe the fan outside the radiator is your issue then, but i dont know, maybe its where youre located thats giving you these issues, luckily for me, the weather is quite cool on the usual and doenst even really get that hot on the weekends, blessed
  13. i think holley makes one for imports, just tell them its for a 300zx 84-89 turbo or something,or maybe any of the earlyz turbo gen2 rx7, supras, or use the stock 280zx turbo fuel pump, for 270hp it will flow, i dont know if it is in tank or not, if it is you are even more in there because you can go to a junkyard and yank a gas tank, you will probably need a gastank because youre injected right?
  14. 4.11s would be great, but you gotta match your combo... rearend to gears to cam to body weight of the car, yada yada yada..... or else youll be slower.....
  15. i think urethane is the way to go with all body kits, especially if you drive it hard, ive bottomed my spoiler out about a hundred times, only blemishes being big scratches on the bottom and a scratch where the lower grill attachemnt hits it when i go down hard, one thing with fiberglass though, it holds its shape better than the urethane, which after a while starts looking fat and saggy. thats one of the main reasons im taking mine off and going back to the stock front end, i only exceed 100mph a 1/4 mile at a time also i checked out owens japanese fairlady sites and saw a lot of great stock front z's with zgs and big tires that make the ones with front spoilers look fat and retarded. one trick i did learn to make a saggy urethane spoiler and make it look tight again is to mount it on the OUTSIDE versus lipping it behind the remains of the front valance, the front bumper mounts reinforce the positioning of the spoiler, and make it less likely to get that saggy nasty look because the front bumper acts to keep the ends where it meets the body very straight and tough. you would need to drill holes to match up some of the bumper mounting holes, but with urethane thats easy and takes about two minutes, learned this when i did the front end on a customers car and put it on this way, and it ended up looking better that way-but i put it back because he had no front bumper and it looks nasty if you dont.
  16. screw tpi then! im not going fi unles i go lt1/t56, and that may never happen. im seriously thinking baby blower....
  17. a turbo v8 sounds nuts! imagine a t56 and the whoopem factor... oh man oh man. yes it is quite ordainairy here to do that, but the torque is great out of it. im thinking about a blower myself, that little sbc single carb unit from jegs, with a little touching, ill put 400-450 to the ground easy. see how that does. sure i could go to the boneyard, and pick up an 8 for nothing and build it up, but i like the sound of lonehdriders goodwrench 350-thats the 250hp edition right? 1300 out the door sounds pretty dang proper, two days ill have that thing out with whining and chirping baby....ignition, timing, underdrive pulleys, and ill see your turbo l6 and raise you 2 cylinders...and yes i am the man who broke his mustache bar in half, pictures will be up soon Leonard "its all good, i can take it like i can dish it out"
  18. do it, but make sure its what you really want, davy can tell you that its a lot of work to get it rolling.the zx is actually a really good swap candidate, tougher suspension, already has the good rearend, more insulation, and newer-less rust!!!! Leonard
  19. i think that the maro radiator might solve it, but beware, most of the time you have problems, dont blame the radiator, thats like the old addage-dont blame your carb for everything. im the jerk who runs a v8z with the stock datsun unit, with no problems until stop and go traffic, but that is probably because i run a non-clutch type fan, that runs consistent with rpm. how is the shroud setup, that may be it, thermostat? i run a 160 and usually dont go over 180 when im gunning it on a warm day. the maro radiator looks really cool, its paper thin, but it cools a big, fat hairy car just fine. but again, before you go through with a radiator swap, make sure its your problem first. Leonard "thats right, a stock radiator"
  20. hey you guys are describing me to a T! ive got a 1967 small journal with (lord love em) camel hump 2.02 heads, and its wonderful, i do need to bump up the cam and do a little something something to fresh him up, but hes running really strong with 650dp. my power band is limited by manifold and cam to about 6k, but from 3-6k its all love baby.... im really in love with dz motor, and would love to get a hold of one of those but ive got the 327, and it aint broke.. loves to rev, and torque isnt an issue this motor makes maximum torque at 3200, and keeps around that zone until about 5700 from what i can feel in the car, with some love i want this guy to spin up to about 7k+!!! Leonard "it feels like vtec"
  21. i think the real difference is the turns, with the open rear most of us run, you can get super stupid, but most of the time only in a left turn. and most of the time in a dry right turn, you get a one legger that explodes with rubber, in lsd, you get ultra stupid both ways, i would love to get ahold of one of those 3.70's, but i run a four speed and that would destroy what little freeway abilities i have... t-5/6 3.70's oh mama... Leonard 3.36er
  22. the real price on a swap always varies, id say that about 7500-9000 into it and you would come out with a daily driver Z that had 365hp. maybe less, maybe MORE>>>>>
  23. i bought my z v8 converted with a muncie rockcrusher all done autometer dash, lakewood scattershield, new tires, straight body, the ubiquitous air dam, running great with good paint for $2750.00, ive since put a couple k's into the project of taking the mickey mouse out of the previous owners doings and such. i sold my civic to get it and made a profit, ive been backed into twice and t-boned by a cbr -amounting to about 3500.00 in settlement, meaning that i have bought the car, modified it some more (roll cage, z28 racing clutch, m21 with 300 miles, new used r200, roll bar, enkies, scarab springs, all new hydralics for an amazing----youre gonna love this one, cause i do. 1250.00!!!!!(after everything is computed) i work at a body shop, i can handle the little dings that paid for my car for free.... you like that, i love that i really dig turbos too, once i get situated and start making a little more money, i think i will do a turbo240 z, i like the quietness and the power, plus being able to score more good running stuff out the boneyard, because as we all know, 280z's and zx's own the junkyards! until next time Leonard @SShole at large( im waving to all my adoring fans right now)
