7k? with the holey floor pans, nah i got this car for under 3k and have had to put about the same back into the car parts and nicknacs. its red with the six spoke 280z rims, soon to be some nice enkeis though. warren is my ace in the hole, he restores cars and will do custom modifications, hes put grand national sixes in el caminos, big block where a small block sits, small block where the l20b used to sit, sbc where the l28 used to sit, think you know what im saying. i dont have a garage or time these days, school and work is killing me right about now!!! but i love every moment of it!! heck yes hell work on your z's, hes done a couple v8 swaps, lots of suspension work , and hes constantly amazing me with his restos, hes working on this drop 67 maro right now, awesome.... up the street from his place youll see some really rare old schools, like the 71 drop malibu, a drop skylark with the gsx package, more and more, right now hes making an SS wagon!!!!! ill put those photos up, thing already looks cooL anyways ill put you in contact with him, hes just about the only guy i know that will even look at my car in the bay area without charging me out the frame...hes good...

hey anyone do the 5.0 HO swap? i love how those motors roller rev out!

oh, thats how darius hits them nice"casual" doughnuts, the three doughnuts ive done in the z since ive had are these savage, almost slow smoky type versus "the glide" and two of them were one leggers

yes, smog is a pain in the butt, ive had so much trouble with smog ill never try to modify anything that isnt exempt. i do have a funny story regarding how my z got refereed and passed. in 1990 when the first v8 was put into it by the owner before me, it failed ridiculously, i mean ridiculous, the four barrel failed, too much carbon monoxide, air cleaner wrong kind, you name it and it was failed for that reason, and it ended up costing so much to make it legal that the referee station bypassed those results and passed him! i have this great sticker on my door jamb, once i get these new z photos scanned ill show it to you all, its a cool thing to have, even though the 72 is exempt now.

think of the richmond trannies as five and six speed muncies, the five speed has a 1:1 ratio and i dont know about the ROD 6speed, but those things can take anything you throw at them, including your whole wallet!!!!!

yes, oil pan clearance is crucial, and may have a hand in dictating "how low can you go" im pretty slammed here, using 280zx racing springs and shocks that are both about to go, coil overs in the back help me out a lot, but my main enemy is driveways and speed bumps, ive hit the oil pan a couple times, nothing nice-being as paranoid as i am i just sit there and stare under my car for ten minutes to make sure i didnt just do myself terrrible. slow and low kid, slow and low, but dang quick and still low when i try to be, makes for greater cornering confidence and a great race feel to driving your hybrid z!

Possible to keep 5spd and console with V8?
fl327 replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
"< So Fairlady, I'm curious. Is there any limit to what you'd change cosmetically in order to go faster? Or is it all good, in the pursuit of better acceleration? I don't think I'd ever want to change the basic body structure. The Z is just too darned good looking to mess with its basic elements, IMHO. I want a faster car, but I don't want it to ever stop being a Z. Scott Ferguson Proud member of the Underground Upgrade Club. [This message has been edited by RPMS (edited April 18, 2001).][/b] i totally understand, and i would never put square headlights on a z, or change the body style besides what needs to be done in the name of performance. my shifter comes out of the fusebox(4spd muncie and scarab mounting) i had to cut the driver side of the tranny tunnel up and fabricate a sheet metal plate because of shift linkage clearance issues. if somebody told me that i would have to look like the primadonna to have a v8 in my z, ill run from it. honestly, would you give up the chance to have torque of the gods because you would have to buy an after market shifter boot and make some adjustments? your putting in a motor that makes double or triple the power the old drivetrain used too, and if it looks a little off it reflects the changes made in the name of bang for my buck! drastic frame altering stuff isnt for me, for the most part my z is stock exterior except the owner before me louvered the hood and had a airdam installed. i dont want to do very much to the exterior besides some nice rims and tires with some nice meats on them, maybe in the future a deck lid little skateboard ramp spoiler, three inch single exhaust(currently running el cheapo super turbo 2/5 single exhaust) and some import racing inspired touches to it that reflects the dual nature of its life. i would stop at the extreme, and wont do very much to my car altering wise that doesnt make me faster or safer, you could say that i do all my mods in the sake of neccesity, i run a fairly mild drivetrain right now and am doing most of my work now in the suspension and braking. im the kind of guy that would only do the sideskirts and some type of flare work to cheaply fix body work while improving the look and maybe giving it the smallest aerodynamic edge. im about performance, i mean is it really that big of a sin to have a funny console? you would already have a "funny" engine bay. would it make you sad that you had a funny console when you start that motor??? im sorry if i came off bad in my initial post, but its not like you would have to cut the frame rails off to do the swap or anything, if you go five speed it will look absolutely stock, while youre at it, stick a datsun pattern shift knob on the t56 and be a true sleeper. do any of you guys out regret having a funnyish interior because you swapped in a more powerful drivetrain???? cosmetics are skin deep, and i have nothing against the man who goes that extra mile and does some off the wall body styling to a z, but i love the true body form of the fairlady , beauty, my ex girlfriend once asked me: what year ferrari is that? i answered : 1972!!!!! hey if they cant tell, they just cant. come check out my car, it does look stock form the outside, only difference is the shifter location and gauges, which were changed out for a more accurate reading ------------------ http://photos.yahoo.com/lenster94116 come see the ghetto bird -
that would be crazy!!!! turbo v8 in that batch, nobody could see that coming, or maybe an rb26?? ls1/t56 can be had for a somewhat reasonable price from this one gm sports salvage yard out here i have yet to talk to. do it do it. im trying to convince my homie out here to swap in a 350tpi/t5 into a 240sx-smoke em up!!!

Possible to keep 5spd and console with V8?

yes, with the jtr method it will look stock, you will have to change out the tach and the speedo though, if that is the sole factor that you are going to do the v8 swap, its better you not even dare. you should do it for performance reasons, your fabricating an entirely new drivetrain but you have a problem with having to cut up a dash and center console?????? cmon man!! -
i think were cheap and ingenious, i mean sure, a brand new ss maro will run 13's all day and looks cool and pretty quick, but wheres the satisfaction in knowing that you made your car just how you want it, and no warranty, finance, lease, or anything else can keep you from modifying it to high hell? i think we love our cars more because we had to work to make them what they are, this is something a lot of people do not understand and i feel sorry for them. i think we all have to be weary of how we spend our money, get the most for the least while not sacrificing quality, its a fun little game we play isnt it. the fact thtat most of us have built our cars for performance instead of spending 30k on a car that you could modify but probably wont because itll void your warranty and that car isnt really yours for another five to fifty years. good words for the leaser, they havea a complete package from the start and dont have to worry about the same things as we do when we use our cars. they have this big oem safety net we dont have, security. gimmie half that money and im street legal nascar buddy....pump gas right on scottie, i like your shift lite, think i could work out something like that to my tach? i really like that actually. domestic motor in an import car, nahhhh.... ------------------ http://photos.yahoo.com/lenster94116 come see the ghetto bird

youre right, the glasspacks i was talking about are the ones that you can get at kragen for 19.99 each or something like that, crappy, i rode in a 69 impala with dual "paks" and the driver couldnt resist revving the crap out of them everywhere, and to me they sounded like complete ...yah a good setup i have yet to see, the only car i can know that justifies glasspacks is the ac cobra, they just belong on one. resonators and stuff huh? we needa sound byte!!!!!!!

drove a 460bb 69 mustang with a manual valve bodied c6 with a ratchet shifter, i dont like autos that much but that bad boy was teh only way to go with that motor in there, two clicks away from being in outerspace.... you only need to push the button to go into first when youre stopped, and you get fifty feet of rubber with a stall converter and a heavy foot, ok thats all i know about autos....

i know davy , i know. i love the four speed because it makes me feel like steve mcqueen but steve didnt have to pay two bucks a gallon did he??? being on the freeway sounding like nascar but going no where is also a pet peeve of mine too, overdrive for me please.... ricer cheapo mods are going on very very soon, wangan midnite is gonna have to look to me for inspiration, and i put that on the dog! look out for the hong kong liscence plates front and back with the american one over the back one, what now, what? gm sport salvage, i just got the number, yo i gotta holla at dem do.

oh i smell tension.... its all in the intent that hybrid s's rule, were all gonna bump heads every now and again. i really like the idea of rice rocket mufflers, i am actually gong to really rocket my z out, im going 3" straight pipe into a three inch two chamber flowmaster muffler with the riceinist tip known to man buddy! i dont like glasspacks imho, they sound like you have a crazy exhaust leak, you can only run those with hydraulics......

hey guys whats going on. i was wondering if any of you guys are running a 94-up five speed from a camaro or firebird in your z's im reallly interested in a five speed, i need that extra gear for freeway cruising and wondering what needs to be done to mate a 1967 sbc to one of those t-5's. looked all over they want too much for a six speed man!!!! THANK_Z fairlady 327 project wangan 01'

i think thats the best part about tpi on a mildly modified motor with alright compression ( less than 10-1 or 9-1 or so) you can run 87 all dang day! man i should have never sold that tpi harness, and you can chip it rather cheaply to get power across the whole rpm range!!!! and reliable yes!!!! but i hear nothing but bad news about the 305 and i agree with davy, if youre doing headwork by yourself or with a friend or something, by all means go into those 305 heads, but if not, go aluminum aftermarket with that tpi and run em...
-
it all boils down to cost IMO how much can you get the setup for? are you doing it all yourself? you can get 296rwhp from the 280zxt motor with the right setup, and probably a lot cheaper than swaping a late model tt supra motor. but you can upgrade the crap out of that motor, looked into putting an 80's turbo supra motor in a z once, cost per hp was out the frame...... if your going for 296 to the wheels, a stock v8 will do that asleep for way way less...

heyy put me down for a copy too!!!!!! sorry only one deck though.
