  1. Well.. I recently bought a Z31 water-cooled T3 turbo... and I noticed something different about the turbo from the 280ZX turbo. It is the same turbo, just the Z31 is water-cooled, HOWEVER, The 280ZX turbo has the wastegate flapper ON the turbo housing. The Z31 turbo has the wastegate flapper and housing ON the downpipe. That stumped me.... I don't know if I can fit the Z31 downpipe on my 280Z ... but I do need to figure something out. I can run an external wastegate, but I don't need one because I am not going to be running much HP or have the money to buy one. Can I use the stock Z31 downpipe? Should I cut it and modify it? What can I do about the wastegate? I dunno... I am stumped.. and clueless.. I need help!!
  2. Quick question.. what exactly does a V-band fitting do???
  3. Well i finally got my water-cooled Z31 turbo in the mail!! Yay!! Anyway.. I needed to re-clock the turbo, because the intake outlet of the turbo was pointing straight up, so I re-clocked it, and I have to find a good place to bolt the waste-gate actuator on.. so I got an L-Bracket for that. I realize I may have to get a new down-pipe since the 300ZX downpipe won't fit..... but here are the pics... I DO have a question though.. how the heck do I bolt up my coolant lines to that bolt?? It's a hollow bolt with holes as shown in the picture... what kind of fitting do I use? (I searched for hours and hours and never found any good reference pics of the oil inlet and outlet fittings.. and what was the water-cooled section???) BLUE maybe you can use it as a reference So here's some :
  4. Hey guys.. I recently bought a T3 Garrett turbocharger from a later Z31 turbo... and after looking at the turbo.. I need some help figuring out which parts are the inlets? and which are the outlets?? I THINK it is water-cooled... but I am not sure.. can you guys help me out? Is the OIL INLET correct? Is the OIL OUTLET correct? Is that center piece the water cooled inlet? or is it not watercooled? NOTE : This is not an exact picture of the Garrett T3 turbo from the Z31.. however.. is the closest picture I can find
  5. I just bought some 440cc Supra Turbo injectors... however, after reading some threads... is it true the L6 manifold requires machining to fit the injectors?? I am going to get an o-ring fuel rail from P.Allnet... but does it require machining the manifold to fit?
  6. =) So after reading this thread.. i understand that the HKS S-AFR will work with our ECU then I will need an MSD ignition and tach adapter to get it to work? I will also need a 60mm TB from a 240SX and use the TPS?? I'm just about to buy this... just making 100% it will work
  7. i have the twice pipes setup.. with no cat.. and 2 glass-packs... I LOVE IT SOO MUCH!! I like the gurgle and popping of the exhuast.. makes me feel like I have a rally car.. hehe.. and the occasional POW when declerating hard.. My bumper is burned .. i swear it spits flames when my exhuast is really really hot
  8. hmm thanks... guess i'll have to wait till i can afford my turbo and intercooler
  9. I figured if I got an 60mm TB... and ported and matched it.. i might see some gains... if i put in more fuel.. i need more air... hmm.. guess i'll just wait till i can afford a stock t3 or somethin
  10. Hey guys... I am slowly building up my parts for a kick ass turbo conversion... my latest bunch of parts i just purchased was a set of low impedance 440cc injectors from a Toyota Supra Turbo.. Now i still have a LONG way to go, and alot of parts to get untill my conversion is complete.. but untill then.... if I hook up those 440cc injectors and a new fuel rail.. will I be looking at any performance gains? I have a stock N47 engine.. with just intake and exhuast... But i figured.. ehh.. why not give it a try... maybe I can use these now... If i am not looking at any performance gains with pluggin the injectors straight in.. how can I achieve some performance gains?
  11. how much did you pay for that turbo?? i am looking for a t3/t04e turbo.. but I have seen them from $250 on eBay to $1,200 from Garrett and Turbonetics
  12. hmm... with everything you have.. it shouldn't lean out.. especially with those bigger injectors and the AFPR... hmmm... maybe it's just the limit of the stock turbo ECU... I am interested in this to... anyone have a good answer?
  13. I have been extremely interested in a turbo conversion for my 1978 280Z. I have been searching around for a few years now on this site... and I understand it's better to just swap in a 280ZXT engine into my car.. but my engine is running VERY strong and has only 100,000 miles on it. I would trust my engine ALOT more than a junkyard one, and i figured would be cheaper. But I am gathering a list of stuff that I need: ( i just need help to see if I miss anything) Turbo Exhuast Manifold Turbocharger and Wastegate Oil Lines Vacuum thinngy (what is the vacuum thing I need? what is it called?) Turbo Injectors Intercooler Intercooler Piping Downpipe Turbo AFM 60mm TB Now I understand I will have to tap into my stock oil pan, or get a turbo oil pan. I hope to use a Z31 ECU or just go for MegaSquirt or SDS. Do I need another oil pump to pump the oil to the turbo? Am I missing anything else?
  14. Just some cool pictures... Wagnan Midnight 240Z banner and 280Z burnout real* Well decided to mess around with my 280Z and do a burnout... Also anyone ever see the game Wagnan Midnight in arcades? The main banner title thing has a 240Z to advertise the game!! Sweet!
  15. Glove Box closed and car put together Glove box open.. with the LCD inside DVD player from behind the passenger seat CLose up of DVD player under pass. seat.. notice how I have room to open and close the CD/DVD tray Not bad for under $300!!! It works
  16. How to : Install a functional DVD theater system in your 240Z or 280Z!!! This is a small documentary/how to : install for a cheap ass.. ghetto DVD setup for your vehicle. Total cost : $290 bux What do I get? : -7" Widescreen LCD monitor -Mobile DVD player that plays DVD's, CD's, MP3's, VCD's, SVCD's and has a BUILT IN TV TUNER! To watch TV on the road -FM Modulator What is an FM Modulator? Let's say you have a CD player or a stock radio and you don't have the option to plug in RCA audio or video wires into the back of the radio/cd reciever. What an FM modulator does is it converts the RCA audio cables (Red and White like for your TV) to an FM frequency like 88.3 mHZ so I can tune to 88.3 FM and I can hear my movie playing or video games, etc. It plugs directly into your original antennea. This is what I started with.. lots of wires and lots of wires Everything is hooked up and tested so now I can install everything nice and clean. I want a professional look. You have the option to plug everything into the Cigarette Lighter, but instead I hardwired everthing to the fuse bus. Sounds complicated but all you do is simply splice the wire to the Radio or Cig. Lighter cable and solder the wires onto it. Or you can wrap it around the wires and electrical tape it for a secure connection. It's not recommended but it works. This pic shows the connection of the DVD player and the LCD monitor to the RADIO wire right after the fuse bus. I attacthed it to the radio so when I turn on the car to ACC the radio and the DVD player and the LCD monitor turn on all at once, so it doesnt drain power all the time from the battery. More wires CLose up test pic... notice the "Pyle" on the LCD screen... it's my Pyle of shit DVD setup
  17. ehh ... sorry.. but in my opinion.. kinda... not attractive
  18. SR20VE light weight, Variable Valve Lift and Timing.... packs out over 187 HP or an SR20VET 278 bhp!!!!!
  19. This is interesting... Dyno charts from Stock to 3" exhuast
  20. basically I am asking... Which would be a better option: 5-speed or Automatic for drifting and autocross and occasional drag racing? for a turbo engine?
  21. How do you power-brake? Just hold the brake, and slam the gas? with my engine, and stock torque converter.... it will stall at 2,500 RPM and stay's there.. then I can take off... but I have never gotten my tires to chirp or squeel, or peel out.. even on the lower gear, (1). *then again I don't have my L28eT yet.. so maybe... but I am leaning more towards an 5-speed.. i just think it'll be more fun... I do drive a sports car... so i dunno.. i just don't know
  22. what do I want to do with this car? have my Z be primarily an autocross car, however, with an decent track at the strip with low 13's or 12's. I just want a fast, fun car, ideal for any situation.
  23. what the hell you talking about.. Maybe I am the only one who hasn't seen F&F or 2F2F... what didn't you to understand? I have asked for peoples opinions on 3 other forums, and you 2 are the only one's who don't understand...
  24. Well.. I am absolutly going nuts, because I want my car to launch right off the line... but there are advantages and dis-advantages of my goal... Other than getting an different Differential.... Would you Z owners, rather drive an automatic transmission with an high stall speed torque conveter with lock-up? (Lock up=during high rpm's the engine and transmission lock together for a "direct connection") -or- Would you Z owners just drive an 5-speed transmission? *Here are my pros and cons... naturally I plan on someday getting an L28eT.... so an automatic would be great, since my shifts would be faster, and the turbo would hold boost during the automatics shifts.... but with automatic transmissions, you can't launch the car at any RPM's you wish to smoke the tires, give it hard take-off, you cant DriFt (unless you know how to use the Low (1st) gear and e-brake) and when you want to show off your turbo and blow-off valve you have to put in it neutral... i dunno 5-speeds you can control what RPM's you want to launch the car with, what RPM's you want during shifts, you can burn out, you can DOWNSHIFT which would be an advantage, you can control drifts much easier.... But you have to use your feet, and they can get tired during traffic, and your hand is always on the shifter, so you have an disadvantage with 1 hand on the wheels... and shifts are slower... and you loose boost druing shifts. What are everyone's opinions on this... 5-speed or Automatic (comfort) with high speed torque conveter
