lol. well im building ITB's now and a pressure plenum!
I wouldnt be able to drive around without the turbo.. CR is stock dished pistons and a 2mm hg.. so its a loooowww cr.
-
Ok ok ya got me lol...
Im so used to drifting as (oversteer) and typical drift events are the track.. front wheels w control.. rear stepped out
-
This has been in my head for months now..
But i kinda want to completly ditch the turbo setup... and build a High Compression N/A motor with some ITB's and a wicked cam and head work.
Turbo's are a hoot.. although very simple.. its just more parts to fail or maintain.
I used to dream of the sound of turbo's and make turbo noises w my mouth haha..
and now i admire the sound of tripple carb or ITB setups and POWERFUL naturally aspirated motors
someone straighten me out!!!
-
wow that car slides around alot.. not drifting but around corners all four wheels are sliding..
-
Here are some choice cracks. They are EVERYWHERE. I am going to LOWES to reseal with a real naptha solvent caulk.
Ummm.. whats wrong with Home Depot? *cough*
-
bwahaha

i just went for another run.
the sound stopped.
WTF. i removed the charge piping and everything. and then back on.
Weird.. something is going on
-
you know I was thinking the blow off valve.. but I doubt it would be stuck open.. hmmm. ill check it out in a few min and try to put my ear up to it.
and its such a weird noise.. no bov would make that
this is also vacuum dependant. an increase in Vacuum increases the noise. Idle is 12 in . hg. cruise or decel is like 20in. hg. Decel is the loudest

alot of ya guys know.. im not mechanically inclined or stupid..
but this has baffled me.
I did a quick run of boost down the street and all of a sudden ive been hearing a loud loud sound similar to a goose call screaming from my engine.
I checked the belts.. and the vacuum lines.. at idle its screaming.. when I rev the RPM's the sound increases and sounds like a balloon deflating (squeeling).. goes from loud to slowly "running out of air" the steady scream.
I had a similar problem when I ran the valve cover breather and PCV to the intake after I did all my mods and turbo swap... only on DECEL.. i was thinking maybe it was the valve cover gasket. i just run them open now
any idea's guys?!

K i spoke to my welding instructor..
he said its a good unit.. cant weld alot of thick stuff.. like 1/4" is about max with steel or aluminum.. he recommended multiple passes for 1/4" or anything thicker. Bevels rock.
For the money though.. you can probably find a used Miller on craigslist with low hours. Plus I dont know if this unit has a cooling unit to cool the tungsten.. those puppies can produce an arc 20 times hotter than the surface of the sun.
-
im sorry guys i meant $15 extra for shipping.
Olie.. thank you sooo much for those links! wow!
And your project looks amazing so far!
-
you have to weight that thing when your done lol
-
whos engine is that with the headgasket like that?!
they were running a Holset turbo!
-
ive been welding up my intake manifold using a Miller TIG at school..
for thin aluminum I am using 70amps.. and about 60hz.. for thicker material and welding the thick flange to thin piping, I am using about 120hz.
Lower frequency is a bigger puddle... less penetration
Higher frequency is a narrow puddle with deep penetration.
Greater amperage is obviously more heat
you really shouldnt need anymore than 150amps and 200hz for everyday aluminum.
FYI - you can weld aluminum with a MIG... comes out fairly well too
-
yep yep. just $15 for extra
-
ohh lala it does AC..
seems like a nice unit! im curious about how this is too?!
-
ebay!
I found one for $26 on ebay lol.
-
yeh.. i uhh.. have a time slip too.. but the wind blew it away..
I was running 13psi .. but at this altitude.. more like 10psi at sea level.
it was from a dead stop
-
I am going to take a 5" diameter pipe and cut it in a few sections and weld up some thick aluminum to weld to the pipe for my plenum. Similar to Ron's custom intake manifold.
BTW I bought 3 sets of ITB's lol. All for stupid cheap prices. muaha

Me.. Datsun 280z versus a Datsun 510.
sounds like a no brainer?!
That damn 510 had a turbo KA24DE.. which sounded wicked as hell.. and damn that puppy must of been light.. it was unbelievable.
anyway.. dead even race.. i mean DEAD. only one pull from a .. umm.. christmas tree. ughm

my z is a daily driver..
and i hate it
-
Globerunner.. i am fascinated with AE...
but id rather be flying an F22 then sitting at a desk with a big headache trying to redesign a part.
Plus I make a butt load of money.. for sitting on my ass and letting auto pilot take control.. while touring the world and meeting hot flight attendants.

im a minor in mechanical engineering? that count?? lol

oh yeh and is 1.375" the ID or OD?
Saw an EVO with the VG's and the Roof Vane today..

What? LoL
I think you know what your talking about.. just can't word it properly..
Vortex generators simply interfere with the boundary layer and create a turbulent airflow which "extends" that boundary layer. As long as the moving air "sticks" to the boundary layer, there will be no separation. The point of VG's is to delay the boundary separation.
In order to maximize the efficiency, the VG's are mounted as far back on the roof line, at the highest point (if possible) to re-direct the airflow separation towards the spoiler.
I dont believe VG's create lift.. just interference drag. As for the "roof vane" there is very very small induced lift (which unloads suspension not the tires). With induced lift comes drag.
