I am running a full 3" exhuast.. no pre muffler or resonator.. just an Apexi N1 muffler..
the way my boost is being handled right now is 10psi in 1st gear, 15-20psi in 2nd and shoots to 20psi + in 3rd, 4th, 5th....
the wastegate is the stock internal wastegate on the Holset turbo.. and the wastegate actuator is the stock 280zx turbo actuator... i'll try running it without the boost controller and see what happens...
Fortunatly I have overboost protection on megasquirt right now.. so it cuts fuel and spark at 17.5psi ... but I hate doin that to my engine
-
so i am having some overboost issues and I have a manual ball and spring boost controller...
I have it as loose as I can, and I am still hitting 19psi + with my Holset HY35W..
If I recall reading bastaads older posts... should I drill a small vent hole on the MBC? if so.. where would be an ideal spot?
This is the boost controller I have

good man.. diagnosing his own problems.. then sharing it .. i love it.. maybe i need to tighten my bov spring

how interesting...

well what about HEI using the stock turbo dizzy versus the EDIS??
Still uses the dizzy but you can still fine tune the RPM and MAP points... BRAAP .. and is very cheap and is still just as effective.. obviously the EDIS allows wasted spark, and coil packs.. but thats about it as far as i can think of
care to add any more details?

nooo automatic Z cars have FLEX PLATES where the torque converter bolts onto... no flywheel
-
i welded a mild steel O2 bung to my stainless downpipe, and I welded the end of the downpipe to mild steel piping... ran it for a few months.. no issues.. no rust, no cracking...

hmm maybe mine will show up today!! =)

WHoa.. so I made a thread on MSefi.com and look at this reply !!
http://www.msefi.com/viewtopic.php?t=19312
If you tell it to use 40degrees timing then you have asked for advanced timing. That number is the absolute timing, not a retard from present setting.
Trust me, I helped write it and I use it on my car.
I agree that the wording can be confusing - I'd never looked at it that way before.
It should say "soft limit timing (absolute deg)" and will be changed at the next maintenance release of 029q
WOW .. uh oh .. I hope I havent hurt my car!

If you are using a Spark based code, e.g. MSnS, Neon, etc, then the soft rev limiter can retard the ignition to a setpoint when the RPM reaches the Soft Limit setpoint. This can help to reduce the engine power o it begins to slow down or feel different so the driver realises they should change gear. The Hard rev limiter will come in if the RPM reaches the setpoint or if the soft limit point is maintained for as long as the max time setpoint. The hard limit can be Fuel, Spark, or a combination of the two if using a spark based code.
http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/revlimiter.htm
That makes no sense.. I mean look at the soft rev it says "retard" (deg) and the description on the MSnS extra site says the soft rev can retard the ignition to a setpoint..
so your saying I could type in a value lets say 40.. and then when i hit the soft rev limiter.. it will ADVANCE my timing from 21 degrees to 40?!?! that would be BAD under boost
-
Yep... but I did also change the TPS dot a little bit.. other than that.. its great
-
yeh i changed my fuel VE values for a certain RPM and kPA.. it was leaning out under load.. so i fixed it now =) made the values richer
-
well i DID.. untill that bolt sheard off.. good point Jon I didnt think about the engine moving.. hmmm..
this sucks.. all that time.. gone.. ill think of something

Soo I am *attempting to perfect* the Holset turbo.. and the ZXT actuator.. I had a aluminum bracket and it flexed alot giving me diff boost levels all the time..
so I cut, welded, and grinded down a nice bracket made of steel .. which bolts onto one of the four 17mm bolts holding the turbo onto the manifold..
So I give it some paint.. and hook it up.. on the final minute i go to tighten it down.. and Son of a bitch.. i sheared off the bolt!! DAMNIT!!
There is soo little room there is no where else to mount this effn thing..
so I got pissed held it to the brake heat shield and welded it on.. hey it works..

Welp im running 10 degree retard for the Soft Rev limit... for ONE second..
then it hits the HARD rev limit.. which cuts THREE sparks .. and still sprays fuel..
I noticed in nuetral.. like lets say launching .. and revving up.. when it hits the rev limiter.. this SPOOLS the turbo.. and I am actually running 12psi !! IN NEUTRAL!!
so this means.. one very very slippy launch.. LoL unless I had sticky tires
thought it was kinda cool that I can build boost for launching
Also for the OVERBOOST protection.. I am cutting FUEL AND SPARK at 17psi..
this is due to the following...
Cutting spark meant fuel would dump into the exhuast manifold.. now a VERY hot exhuast manifold will cause this unburned fuel to ignite.. once this ignites it explodes.. and spools the turbine.. which in turn creates even MORE boost..
so this kinda defeats the purpose.. so I am cutting fuel and spark .. i will go from 11.2 AFR to 20.9 AFR (free air calibration) with a POP from the exhuast.. so it obviously works and protects my engine from overboosting with my Holset.

Hey guys... i have a quick question..
what is the proper spark cut for the soft rev limit retard?? I am using 40 degrees.. which I fear is WAY WAY WAY too retarded after some searching on the forums...
( I am running 17psi on a 8.3:1 CR and MegaSquirt n Spark extra 021u and the stock Nissan dizzy)
is 10 degrees adequit?
I noticed when I go into the HARD CUT mode.. the RPM's go from like 6,200 RPM down to almost 4,200 RPM .. its a HUGE RPM loss.. is this correct?
another question is overboost protection..
is this damaging to the engine? during my datalogs when the hard cut kicks in when I overboost.. the MAP spikes up dramatically.. and looks like a MIS FIRE (which it is obviously) I fear this is damaging the engine rather than protecting it

are you sure it was the light bulb that was burned out?? sometimes those wires short out!

shut it Austin..

i'm running a HY35W ...
4" Aviation ducting.. used on turbocharged aircraft
Next to the stocker T3
-
you are crazy dude.. LOL..
very impressive so far though!! very unique!
let us know how she is on the track!
-
i would never use a clear hood.. no matter how pretty my engine bay is ..
just asking for the car to be stolen..
look everyone! I have a big turbo and very expensive engine components!
-
right.. the entire fuel map will not show up on the screen at once.. but you can scroll down and left and right.. and view the rest of the MAP..
oh well.. awsome you have it running!!
Palm Tune is awsome! I sent Roger a PM requesting a program .. and within a week he made it! i was soo happy!!
-
DO not run more than 10psi with no intercooler..
I ran 15psi with my Z.. and a Isuzu Diesal NPR intercooler.. she was fine

formula one engines have a 1.7L V8 if I recall.. revs up to 20,000 RPM and idles at 8,000 RPM .. overall stroke is I think 96mm
