  1. Just a side note. The Haynes manuals are good but the original datsun factory service is better. You can get a cd version thru Courtesy Nissan in Texas. http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv? This should work to get there. If not just go to Courtesynissan.com and in the search look for cd's Well worth the extra few bucks
  2. Hi Guys and Gals, Sorry about double posting. I am anxious. I have been told that my clutch is going. Now that it has been hot in Oakland my clutch has been slow to reset after I shift. Real sluggish. I was told by the Z Doctor over the phone that it sounded like the clutch is going. Does this sound right?? My next question is does 575.00 sound high for a clutch job parts included? I am sure they mark up parts a lot so I can probably save 100.00 if I bought my own. But is this high? Next, does any of you know anyone who would do it for less? is there any of you that would take it on yourself? I can most certainly help. I have a slightly slopping parking spot and only have two small jack stands, so I can't do it myself. I am a draftsman and have access to a laser cutter and small casting ability, so I can help others with some stuff if needed too. I just don't want to spend a fortune if I don't have to. As always any help is greatly appreciated. I don't know how long I have untill it quits and it is my daily driver, so any posts soon is also appreciated. Thanks, Kyle

  4. What is the downfall of filling in the pillar vents on a 280z. I like the look with them shaved but will it hurt the car somehow? What was the function of them anyway? Anyone out there done it? And how? Any tips? As always, thanks, Kyle
  5. OK when it is hot out, (which it was today) my clutch seems to be stiff. Like it doesn't want to come back up as fluidly as when it is cooler out. Is it a problem? Still shifts ok just seems stiff. Is it a sign that something is going? Do I need to replace my fluid? Any help would be great as always. Thanks, Kyle
  6. Hopefully someone can chime in with more experience than I have. But it sounds like you are getting less pressure to the clutch. So either you have less fluid in your clutch system, your master cylinder is failing, or a combo of both and you are leaking fluid. Have you checked yor fluid level at all?? Maybe there is air in your system. Good luck and like I said hopefully someone else will answere. Happy motoring, Kyle
  7. If I needed to replace my louder than average fuel pump on my stock 78z do I have to use a stock replacement. is it just easier. If in the next year or two I plan on putting in a v8, is there a fuel pump that I can use for both engines? I am not even sure if this is something that needs addressing yet but it sounds louder than I think it should. Anyway any help is aways appreciated, Thanks Kyle
  8. Hi all. Has anyone done a custom center consol that they want to share pics of with me. Also I am going to be starting one soon myself and will have the mold, so let me know if anyone is interested. I plan on fiberglass, any other suggestions? I am tired of the thin oem plastic ones. I probably won't change the design too much. Let me know if anyone has any suggestions that can help or if anyone wants in on the venture. Won't cost much at all. I am in the Bay Area (Oakland CA) Later
  9. From what I know and that is fairly limited, if you are putting in a carbed engine into a car that had FI, you can pull pretty much all the wires. The computer can go too. The only wires that you are going to need are the ones for your headlights, gauges, not much else I think. Should be nce and clean with a carbed engine in there. I am sure someone else will respond that has done this to their car. Good luck,
  10. Hey there, is there anyone in the San Fran Bay area that knows of a place to get the years of grease and oil cleaned off the bottom of your car. It is such a pain in the A%% when I get under it. I always come out completely filthy. And now that I don't have any more leaks I would like it clean so I know if I get another leak or just to stay clean. Any help is always great. Thanks, Happy motoring, Kyle
  11. O.k. so I know that a fuel cell is a fuel tank... What are the advantages of a fuel cell? Is it just a cheaper replacement to a fuel tank? Is it better because it is lighter in weight? Stronger? How do you fill it? Since it doesn't hook up to the normal fill pipe? Sorry, I am really new to this modifying cars thing and have never seen one. Thanks for all the opinions, Kyle
  12. O.k. I am fairly new at the whole working on car stuff. What excactly is a fuel cell and how does it differ from a gas tank. I have scene the pics of a few of them and how do you fill it? With what kind of fuel? and what are the advantages of having one? Thanks
  13. As always I am thankful to the best forum in the world. Just one more reason to be happy. Thanks
  14. Hey there Z fans. Am I not driving correctly or do I need a clutch adjustment or new clutch? Mostly when starting in first gear if I don't have the clutch way out I will get chatter. Best way to describe it. There is no slipping in any gears when driving and I have no problem getting it into any gear. It is just that I have to have the clutch almost not even in at all. Very little transition between clutch and gas. The peddal barely depressed in if you know what I mean. Is this normal or a misadjustment for the 78Z. I think it has been this way since I got it. I have driven stick shifts for 13 years now and haven't had this happen. I'm hoping it is a small fix. For now it drives me to and from work I just have to remember to not clutch as much. Thanks for any help as always. Z's rule Kyle
  15. Hi guys, I am going to replace my drive shaft soon and have the part from msa. I need to replace the rear transmission seal as well and can't find in my manual how to do this. Is it simply pry out the old and press in the new? Any special tools needed? What do I oil the new one with and the driveshaft that slips into it? Or do I not need to? Is marking the old driveshaft and diff and transfering the mark to the new one important? If so why? Shouldn't the new one be nicely balanced? I am a newby at fixing things and if I can't find why in writing I don't have past experience to pull from. That is why there is Hybridz.org Thanks as always everyone is great. Kyle
  16. I didn't understand. The relay goes where? And does what? Thanks
  17. Hi guys and gals. Where can I find a replacement radiator for my 78 datsunZ? I want an aluminum readiator that can handle a v8 swap. Preferably cheap of course. I thought I had read a while back someone getting one for around 150 that could just bolt on. Is this true? or are there mods that have to be done to get it to fit? What year taurus radiator fans work? Junk yard or used online? Any help is always much appreciated. Thanks,
  18. Hey there, I know so many of you out there have done this conversion because I have heard it talked about so often. My question is what year, make, brakes do I look for? Is it an easy swap? Can I use stock rotors or drilled rotors from motorsport auto? Or are there cheaper options for rotors that will fit. My main supply for parts has been Motorsport auto or British Victoria. What are my options for increased front baking and getting ready for a SBC implant in a year or so? Any help is great. What are my options for rear brakes that won't cost an arm or leg? Is there an easy swap from a 240 sx or something? Thanks for all the help and support?
  19. Thanks, just the easiest, sheapest way of dropping in a new engine and trasnmission. No intire strip down or crazy mods. My wife I am sure will not want me spending years on this now since it is my daily driver. I also don't have a garage. I would like to use my gauges but no big deal if I have to replace them. Horsepower isn't an issue. Just more than the stock Z which isn't hard to do. Automatic tranny most likely. I am just so tired of shifting. But I could go either way. All I want to do when the time comes is replace the fuel pump, engine, tranny, and driveshaft. I want to have everyting else done before hand. That way it costs less since I can spred out payments and since it is my daily driver I won't have to take too much time off. Thanks. Are there websites that sell good engines and transmissions or do I need to ask around at shops? Thanks again and happy driving, Kyle
  20. Hey there guys, What are my choices in buying a v8 and transmission for my Z ? I don't need anything fancy, I would like to get more horsepower and better gas mileage and have an engine that anyone can work on. I plan on getting the car ready in the next year, I.E. better brakes roll cage, new suspension, and radiator. I have never bought a new engine before so I don't know what combinations engines transmissions and carb/fuel injectors to look for. Would getting the JTR manual tell me my choices or just tell me how to install it? Like I don't even know if you get engines with the carbs and all put together, or do you have to put them together from a basic engine block yourself. I know so many of you have done this or are going to, so I hope you can help. Thank you and happy driving.
