  1. Wow, you have a list of things that need addressing I think. I was in your same shoes about a year and a half. Do your self a favor and clean the engine good. It will help you move around in it and look around easier. Check all your wire connections. I had to replace all my connection; ie, to the injectors, temp sendor, thermotime. There are more too, I just can't remember. Check your battery cables. Make sure the terminals are clean and the cables are attached well. The fuseable links are located on the passenger side of the car mounted infront of the battery. They are in two seperate pods. Maybe you still have the white covers over them. If they are old and haven't been replaced in a while (like ever) then they are sure to be brittle and may break if removed. Buy new ones and remove and check the links. They are just what they sound like. They are an old type of fuse. A bit of thick wire connecting two terminals. Check them and maybe replace. Most everything plastic in there is old and brittle by now. It is real frustrating but be patient. After I replaced plugs and connections my problems went away. The idle issue might be your BCDD valve. I am not sure what it means or what it does. I had that problem and was told that if I blocked it with a solid gasket that there would be no problem. I did that and my idle is good now. Maybe someone else can chime in. Just give it love and affection. Clean it real good and give it a full tune up. It is real easy. That is how I learned. Get the manual for the car. You can aquire one on cd from courtesynissan.com It is a real help and wan't all that expensive. Finding an actual real copy can be hard, and the cd version lets you print out just what section you need. I carry a binder with me in my car with all the chapters printed out. It has paid for itself. Good luck and have fun.
  2. How'd yo do those tail lights? Those are sweet. Where did you get the lights for it? Nice paint job too. Wierd little bumpers though. But I like. Enjoy tooling around in your own creation. I bet you will turn a heard or two this summer.
  3. Still, it is an upgrade from the squirels in the cage method.
  4. it can be aweful huh?? I haven't fixed it yet in my car. But I have a big dent at the driverside hatch corner. I am waiting to fix that first then try and solve the leak. From the research I ahve done it is caused primarily by the rear hatch seal leaking. That and the gaskets around the lights. It can be the drain plugs at the bottom of the hatch too. Bad design on the part of Datsun. But the car looks good. If you search the forum you'll find this to be a common problem. Good luck
  5. I thought that they could easily be gotten at Motorsport Auto or Victoria British.....Check there, they might have them. Good luck
  6. Ditto that. Stay safe so you can return home, enjoy some freedom and join the fellow Z fanatics out here. Good luck to you, and thanks.
  7. Just by the simple fact that we are guys and once were boys makes me wonder how there are more of us alive. Maybe we are part cat or something. I am definately a few lives short.
  8. Do yourself a favor. Don't go to a mechanic. Do it yourself. I am by far not a mechanic and I just replaced my master and slave cylinder. It was real easy once I had the right parts. Order them from British Victoria. Both will cost you 50.00$ US THe hardest part is taking out the pin that holds the pedal to the master cylinder. You will need two people to bleed it though. Once I had the correct parts it took me and my friend 1/2 an hour. Works great too. Sounds like it is your master cylinder too. I had the same problem a few weeks back. Good luck, Kyle
  9. I like the pic that the RealG posted. Kepps the original Z light housing but makes it look sportier.
  10. Nice home and nice work space. I wish I had something half the size. Soon enough though. Grad school first. But well done.
  11. do a search for the taurus fan. Many have used it and swear by it. The multi speed fan is the best. So I have heard. The shroud should cover most of the radiator for the best results. According to the JTR manual anyway. The fan can be used as a stand alone or with the motor fan. Without the stock fan people say you free up horse power. But it is debated since the electric draws current and that takes away horse power. Something like that. I am sure someone else will chime in who know more. But the search will help. Lots of good info out there. Good luck
  12. Ditto to all said. My dad is no mechanic or handy person. But I wouldn't be able to cook if it weren't for him. And if I wasn't well fed, then I couldn't have the energy to work on my car. Happy fathers day to all.
  13. only if they are in a Z. Sitting on a Z. Standing near a Z. I love women too but I love my Z. That is why I go here.
  14. everyone here is awesome, good luck and have some fun. The older Z cars are the best ever.
  15. Domino, yeah I have been warned. But when I bought the car I was just setting up the first domino wasn't I? It will be a while before I get it painted. I have a lot to do yet. I was just bored and thought I would see if anyone had any pics of bronze cars done differently or something. I guess this is my idea of fishing. No worms to mess with and much more fun.
  16. Hey all. I have a bronze 280. I would like to maybe keep the original color so I don't have to repaint the whole thing. Has anyone accented it with another color. Like silver. I was thinking of a large band down the middle. Not real sure. It would be most likely a first, temp job that would last untill I move back east and have a garage to strip the whole thing. What are your suggestions? Good and bad. I don't see to many Z's that are bronze anymore. Not real popular. I am turning my inside into black/charcoal. That brown/bronze interior is ugly. Maybe silver flames up the whole front......I don't know, help me out. Thanks
  17. I have the same question. I have heard though that most will fit with minor mods.
  18. Domino effect aye?? If I didn't have a limited budget right now I'd be fixing everything. Since I got my Z 2 or so years ago I have been learnig to do everything that I can. Each new thing is new to me so it usually required a lot of planning and asking questions. I think that I am at the point though where anything seems do able to me. This summer however my plans are: New fromt calipers, custom fiberglass center console, some minor rust work, new bushings throughout, rear shocks. That is probably more than I can afford right now but it is in the my plan. Anyway it sure does feel good to to things on my own. And no spending $$$ on labor.
  19. Do it yourself. It shouldn't be all that hard. I am sure someone has done it and can give a few pointers. Resin isn't too hard to work with. Good luck
  20. I don't think that you can get a harness for the older Z's. I hooked up my Sony unit to my 280z by splicing wires. It is not as easy as the harness idea. Plus when I got mine there was no harness of any kind there. Someone had stolen the radio before I bought it and it was a real mess. I used a multimeter to figure out what was what. Good luck
  21. Nice looking car!!!! Real clean and neat. Nice job shaving all the lights.
  22. I replaced the master ans slave cylinders Fri. That was it. It shifts fine now. You should have seen the old fluid and cylinders. What a mess. Guess I should have inspected those a while ago. They pretty much fell apart in my hand when I took them off. Wow what a difference. I'll replace the clutch soon enough though. I am learning. Untill Fri I had never even bled a line before. Now I know how to replace the cylinders and it was easy. Hardest part was getting the wrong parts first. Once I got the correct part it took like 1/2 hour to do it all and adjust the pedal. I feel like a pro. Thanks for the words of advise. This web site is the best.
  23. Think of the good side to it. You have a Z and the space to work on it. right there is more than most people have. Next you have people eager to help. It was an Arizona car that is rust free and all cleaned up now. It isn't your daily driver so there is no rush. And you love working on it as a hobby. Your house will sell, hopefully soon. As for now the z isn't costing you much but labor. And there is sooooo much you can do to it now without it costing anything like what you are doing. Get it clean, prepare it to the fullest. When money comes you can be at the ready point to finnish it. Make the motor mounts yourself for the v8 swap. Learn how to be creative and do things well that will cost near to nothing. Your on the right track, pretty soon your ride will be sooo sweet everyone will be so jealous. Taking your time is a good thing. And your girl wants you to work on it. Most don't, mine included. Hang tight and post pics a long the way.
  24. Ok. so maybe that is an exaggeration but I still feel good. Here is my story. I had been having clutch issues of late. This morning I went to go to work and got in the Z and the clutch would hardly shift. So I figured I had been having what I thought was master cylinder issues. First I thought, let me bleed the line and make sure it isn't air in it. Well, the fluid was mud. I figure that is not good and maybe the cause. So I flush the system untill it runs clear. Fully bled and still no clutch pressure. So I had ordered a new master cylinder from Courtesy Nissan and I open the box and it is one for a zx. Well that sucks. So I go down to Autozone and ask for one. Sure enough the give me one that looks just like my old one. I think. So I put it in, bleed the line etc. Well the pedal is sitting 1.5" closer to the firewall than before. So I adjust it. And adjust it. No luck. I go to the furthest it will let me and I am at 7" from fire wall. My manual says 8.78". What the &^%$, right. It looked good. Well it must have been for a 260 or something. So off to the Z doctor who has the right parts for more than you want to spend. But it was totaly worth it. I bought a master and slave from them. Got home and in 25 min with my friends help get both in and adjusted. Works just fine. So the morale of the story is: make sure your parts are correct. It cost me a day almost. And lots of skin off my hand trying to adjust the wrong master cyinder to work. I am pretty new at the game so this is amazing for me. I am sure most out there have done this sort of thing a hundred times before. But anyway, I am pleased. Happy motoring, and enjoy the weekend.
