  1. If you run a carburated engine on the propane/gasoline system make sure you run a tank of gasoline at least once a month. The carb seems to dry out/deteriorate when ran only on propane.

    lean surge

I have 75Z w/355 sbc. My Edelbrock 600 recently started giving me a lean surge at cruise speeds. The fuel pressure is a constant 6psi. I have the Edelbrock A/F monitor and it reads between 12-13 (rich), but flickers off when the surge happens. I've adjusted the timing up and down, jetted the carb up one stage, then two stages, with no change. The fuel filter is 1 year old and is a purolator see-thru unit, it looks ok. There's no flat spots or hesitation during acceleration, just the lean surge at cruise. Any ideas??? Thanks, Tim
  3. If you have a '77 or '78, the tanks for these model years was larger, from what I've read. There's a thread in the Ignition & Fuel Delivery forum, do a search on "fuel tanks".
  4. Would taking the fuel tank cap off eliminate that as a possibility? I've tried that without success. I didn't put the canister back on, that'll be my next step. Thanks
  5. I'm having a problem very similar to one Mikely had with his fuel system. I have a 75Z with a moderate 350, a new holley electric pump/regulator and 3/8" aluminum fuel line. I'm using the stock tank, the fuel pump is mounted just below the stock position (it's within and inch of the tank bottom). The pump is wired with 10ga wire and a Painless Wiring relay kit, it was running at 12.3V when my pressure was down to 4.5 psi. I have rerouted the fuel line through the fender, to the firewall, where the regulator is now mounted, then to the carb, a 600cfm edelbrock. My fuel pressure starts at 7 psi, after about 15 minutes it drops down to 6 psi, at 25 minute it has dropped to 4.5 psi. Can anyone offer a solution? Tim
  6. I thought the wiring was the hardest part. Mines a 75 too, I had painfully frustrating problems with heat soak. I'd order the Summit remote solenoid and start over on the starter wiring. It'll be worth it living in sunny Cali. My car's in storage, or I'd look it over. I remember the color labels in JTR not being 100% accurate on some wires. So you might have to rely on your trouble shooting skills.

Yes, they do have emission tests, but they are jokes, just don't go to the places that test them to get your car inspected. There are places you go and just pay your five bucks and get it inspected. Most of the places really don't care. Let me know if you need any other info. Sean Thanks for the information. I was worried i'd have to continue to license my car in Iowa.
  8. I might be moving to Oklahoma City. Does anyone know if there is emissions testing in the Oklahoma City area? My setup isn't exactly stock.
  9. FYI and a (?), Mike kZ mentioned this company back in Nov. I e-mailed Spintech for some information. I was concerned that by the description they used in the add that they may be more restrictive that most. Ron from Spintech replied that they are similar in flow #'s to a 2 chamber FlowMaster. My car's in storage (deep in storage), but I was wondering if anyone thought there would be room for 2 of these on each side of the driveshaft. They are 2-1/4†thick, 9†wide by 16†long. Is anyone using them? http://www.spintechmufflers.com/spintech/ [This message has been edited by timh (edited February 06, 2001).]
  10. Thanks for the thoughts, I'm on my way to a swap meet tomorrow. I'll have to think more about it tonight. Spring fever/car fever is a widespread problem this time of year in Iowa! timh
  11. I was wondering if switching to an Edelbrock 750 (1407) will be too much for my setup. I have: '75 280z w/355 sbc, 10:1 flat-top pistons 333881 cast heads, (76cc, 2.02/1.60) cam: 272 adv. dur. performer intake. Holley "red" fuelpump with stock fuel line. Stock HEI ignition. Am I going to have low end power problems. Thanks in advance for any thoughts!
  12. I've read in other postings that the stock fuel line is around 5/16", which is supposed to be sufficient for most near stock engines. I'm not sure what the voltage is, but with the relay kit, I figured it was ok, probably should check it. As far as it being near the exhaust, I've read other postings saying that they've mounted the pump in the stock location without problems. Thanks for the ideas. quote: Originally posted by BLKMGK: Some shots in the dark here. Is it near the exhaust? Is it getting enough voltage? When it dies are you sure it's still getting juice? Is it possible the fuel lines it's feeding are too small? Hrm, same pump I'm considering...
  13. I have a '75 z with a mildly built 350, edelbrock 600 cfm carb, Holley blue pump and regulator (installed in stock position using relay kit and stock fuel line without a return line). The fuelpump seems to be overheating after 5-10 minutes on the road, the pump shuts off and I'm stuck on the side of the road for about 10 minutes while it cools down. Has anyone had this problem? Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!
  14. It's a carburated 355 with a '91 700r4. quote: Originally posted by Mikelly: Computer? I need more info...Which powerplant are you using and is it Fuel Injected? TPI? TBI? Mike
  15. Can anyone tell me how to bypass the computer on my 75 V8Z, I'm not getting power to the distributer or fuel pump. ------------------
