  1. Congrats on getting the car running. Boost? I thought you were running the NA engine from the old car. Do tell....
  2. The way I understand it, you include the text of the license with your source code or binaries that you distribute. I don't believe that the BSD license requires you to distribute the source code with a binary distribution. You should include the license with binaries anyway. here is a template you can use to generate your own license: http://www.opensource.org/licenses/bsd-license.php opensource.org in general is a good resource for OSS license information. wikipedia actually has a decent page explaining the license: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BSD_License The Free Software Foundation has a great FAQ detailing how software is released under GPL (not related to BSD really, but very thoroughly documented): http://www.fsf.org/licensing/licenses/gpl-faq.html
  3. Define "rip off." The GPL basically gives anyone the right to modify your code so long as whatever they create from it is also released under GPL. I personally prefer the BSD license because I think it is more "Free." It all depends on what your intentions are.
  4. Exactly. The battery packs were designed to last up to 200k miles. By the time these things are failing there should be a significant salvage industry around them. Gas/Electric hybrid cars may have issues, but battery life isn't one. http://www.elecdesign.com/Articles/Index.cfm?AD=1&ArticleID=11347&pg=2 (emphasis mine)
  5. 14.5 mpg in my Titan and no second thoughts How many reported failures have there been for battery units in the Prius?
  6. bump. Any more feedback on these guys? I can say that they simply do not respond to email. I've been too lazy to call them so far. The prices are good, but it sounds like these guys might be in over their heads.
  7. 280z: Started suspension disassembly. Struts, coilovers, and bushings are in the garage. Camber plates should be here late this week/early next. Oh yeah, and I've got to learn to weld. Found the first bit of rust that concerns me. About a dime sized bubble on the left dogleg. I have no idea how I've missed this for so long. This is the first I've found other than a touch of surface rust just in front of the cowl. Website to document the project is in the works. Domains have been purchased. Currently reviewing content management software. 240z: Taking up space in my garage. Last registered owner (1995) blocked my attempt to get title. Police don't care, saying it's a civil issue. Spoke to last owner once to try to work something out. I left the ball in his court since he said he wanted the car. Now he won't return my phone calls and hasn't sued me to arrange our day in front of the judge. I'm afraid that "sawzall day" is fast approaching.
  8. You're getting a lot of good advice here. MikeK280z nailed it. Oh yeah, and if you're nervous, suck it up. Don't drink to calm your nerves. I've seen too many best men get blotto and embarass themselves, their buddy, or their buddy's new wife. Not a good scene.
  9. I've been looking for 16x8/16x9 wheels for a few months now. Wats are the best option I've found for street wheels that are available new. All of the other options have been racing wheels that would probably be too light for regular street use. Plus, Watanabes look the business with zg flares.
  10. Yup. With my birthday coming up, my wife has been fishing for ideas for a present. Yesterday I told her I want a Momo Competition steering wheel. Then I almost bought it on ebay for myself this morning. It's not just ebay though. I troll the classifieds posts on all the z boards regularly looking for parts.
  11. Those look great. I just priced 4 of them on autornd.com and came up with $880. Did you get a double secret buddy price, or are they just marking them up more now?
  12. Missed this post earlier. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=92455
  13. Unreal. Thank you for posting that.
  14. Thanks for your insight guys. Exactly the reality check I needed. I'm well on my way to making an engine decision. My apologies if this thread seems redundant. I've been reading HybridZ regularly for at least 4 years and I'm very aware af how many times basic rb26 and l28et questions come up.
  15. Seems like the best option is the GForce T5 conversion. But that's $$$$. That was the tipping point toward considering the RB.
  16. 5foot2: I'm glad you posted that instead of me. I almost posted the same link, but held off.
  17. This same car has come up before. I think the discussion was about it's front spoiler. I've got some photos of really cool Japanese 280zx spoilers. I'll try to dig those up tonight and post 'em.
  18. I was actually considering the '25 initially. A few people on this forum that have done the RB25 are saying that in reality the RB26 would only be a few hundred more once you swap the intake and throttle body on the RB25. A few hundred bucks seems cheap for the mystique of "godzilla." More research is in order to find out what the difference in upgrade parts are for the two.
  19. Up to now, I've been planning to build an l28et to put in my 1975 280z. My project requirements have been: 1. straight 6 2. turbocharged 3. ~400 rwhp 4. reasonable reliability Building to those requirements from the L6 platform is looking pretty expensive. The cost of a built longblock and a transmission that can reliably handle my power goals gets pretty close to the price of an rb26 and GT-S transmission. What am I missing? I expect the engine and transmission to run $4000, and another $1000 - $2000 for other items to complete the swap. I've searched and done some research on the rb26 swap, but I'm not familiar with the typical upgrade path for this engine.
  20. I don't have one in my 240z or my 1975 280z. I don't think there was one in either of my z31s (both 1986). I learned to drive in those cars, and never developed the habit of depressing the clutch when starting. I just checked the shifter and fired. Made for a few frustrating (and embarassing) moments when I got another car.
  21. Lookin' good! Engine bay wiring looks great to me.
  22. Good one! I laughed so hard it hurt. My wife must think I'm crazy I've been laughing so hard.
