    Day one

From the album: 1978 Pearl Black 280z

The first thing i did was was the non-runner when i first bought it.
  2. Where is it located?rust?miles?clean title? We need some more info, but for 300 bucks for a 240z is a steal.
  3. Ill get a hold of an inspection camera. I googled the part Number off the remanufactured sticker 1010B-P9203RE and came up with this website http://www.nissanpartsdeal.com/parts/nissan-reman-engine-as~1010b-p9203re.html I emailed the company and they told me they dont stock or have discontinued selling the engines. They had a complete Datsun Nissan dealership parts catalog uploaded onto their site. This proves that the sticker on the engine is a factory dealership part but there is no way to connect the relationship between the stcker and the engine unless i had the original dealership purchase paperwork which would have the Part serial number with the Serial number on the block. Im going to say its a Factory dealer replacement engine based on what ive found, but if not its still a great engine. A quote from their site "Genuine Nissan Parts, the Right Choice Your vehicle deserves only genuine Nissan parts. To ensure reliability, purchase Nissan 1010BP9203RE REMAN ENGINE AS. Our parts and accessories are shipped directly from authorized Nissan dealers and backed by the manufacturer's warranty. OEM parts are the best for restoring your vehicle to factory condition performance."
  4. Currently its up for sale, I need some cash to help my current RB swap. sometime this week ill take off the head and inspect the engine and ill post what i find. Do you think who ever rebuilt the engine slapped on that sticker on the front of the engine?
  5. Thanks for the response. Ok Ill take a look at the bores. Would you agree that the engine is worth more than a used F54 P79 engines simply because it is practically brand new??? or are they the same in value?
  6. I own a 1978 280z, Installed the Arizona z car 4 barrel conversion kit and have regretted it ever since. it is a great quality product but 390cfm is too big for a stock N47 2.8l ( 165-170psi compression on all cylinders). It is too inconsistent, some times the fuel mixture is too rich and others its too lean. Just a stock holley 390cfm was installed with 48 main jets (5psi fuel pressure), was too rich you could smell it in the engine bay, the exhaust tips and also the spark plugs, and timing didnt help nor did the fuel to air mixture screws. so i installed size 40 jets, that was TOO LEAN, until you go full throttle and then the mixture seems about right, but anything under full throttle was too lean and the engine performance suffered. I then installed size 44 main jets, reset the timing (about 5 degrees advanced), gaped and installed new spark plugs, and hooked up a vacuum gauge and set the mixture screws, finally i have something that kinda works. at times it can be a bit too lean or a bit too rich but overall the power curve has smoothed out. Also note that this is a hot set up and I would highly recommend an exhaust heat shield between the manifolds. but if you want to install this on your stock l28 DONT, do some slight mods to your engine before strapping on this carb. ~McGruber
  7. Hi fellow Z owners, I need some help, I believe I own a time capsule. An L28 F54 block flat top pistons p79 head maybe 1981, Old new stock dealer replacement engine???? Has anyone heard of this? I have researched the engine and have only found various specification about the mechanical aspect of the engine but not any history. I acquired the engine from a local z collector in Tucson AZ, he explained to me that the Engine was only broken in by the manufacturer and has not been in a car. He also said that in the late 70's and early 80's Nissan dealerships sold factory engine replacements and that this engine was one of them. The engine has always sat on an engine stand indoors collecting dust, I opened up the valve cover, which revealed a pristine aluminum head with factory markings (red paint on the cam shaft ect), I presume the rest of the engine is just as clean and pristine. The man seemed very knowledgeable about Z cars and was very trustworthy, so i bought the engine (still a very nice clean L28 engine, even if it isnt a factory dealer replacement engine). I have no paper work from the dealer proving that it is a factory replacement Engine but at the front bottom of the block is a sticker which reads { REMANUFACTURED ENGINE } and then lists identification numbers. any input would be great (sorry the picture is blurry, I will take better complete pictures later.) ~McGruber

  9. the problem was the interior relay ( two relays, 4 prong relays, that connect to the fuse block) and then i had a bad ground to the ecu. After reading the FSM several times i was able to figure it out.
  10. I noticed that when the key is turned no power is drawn (according to the voltmeter), it that ignition or ignition relat ?
  11. *edit* it was a dumb question that was answered when i read the FSM
  12. Does anyone know where i can get my hands on one of these Front spoilers????? Who makes them??? Ive seen them on Star Road s30 z cars but cant seem to find them available to purchase. any Intel?
