  1. As my t56 is in a zx, I can't help you out too much, but I can answer a couple of questions.

-The transmission will bolt up to your engine, but if you have the older style engine (pre-'86 I think) then you will need to use a different (expensive) flywheel. I have a Centerforce SFI that weighs at least a good 30 lbs. Now, since my setup is already complete, I really haven't been keeping an eye on the market to see if anything else has come out to mate a t56 to an older style sbc, but I seem to recall hearing about a bellhousing that you can use to mate the two together.

I'm using a Tilton 7/8" clutch master cylinder and a SS line running down to a T-5 slave cylinder. You will either need to drill and tap the back of the slave cylinder in order to run your line, or you can see if Ross C. is selling the adapter for it again. I talked to him a year or two ago about it, and he told me he wasn't going to be making any for a while, so you may be out of luck with that. I found the correct info to drill in tap the slave on this site, so all I can tell you is search some more :-)

    Good luck

  2. Definately a lot of talent with Saosin and Thrice.

BTW, Confused -- I will hunt you down and KILL you if you don't include me in those backstage passes next time you're in Houston...j/k :-) ...or am I?

Have you heard Chimaira's new album yet? It's pretty good, only with more solos. I'm not sure if it's better than their previous albums, but I still jam out to it daily.

  3. Oddly, the same as you: Chimaira, Bury Your Dead, It Dies Today, Trivium, Unearth, Shadows Fall, In Flames, Bleeding Through, if Hope Dies, As I lay Dying, Atreyu, etc.

Seeing as how you listen to Chimaira, did you catch their concert over in Houston a little over a month ago? It was pretty damn badass! Houston seems to have a pretty decent hardcore scene; I was also able to watch Bury Your Dead, If Hope Dies, and All That Remains over there. I also went to the Ozzfest over in San Antonio last weekend, and while I think last year's line up was better, this one was still pretty good, especially with Bury Your Dead...oh yeah!

  4. Well, I'm officially living in Austin, Tx. I'm taking 13 hours this semester, and I was able to get a job at a Ford dealership a little north of Austin. Austin is a great city, except for one plague -- I-35!!! SON OF A B****!!! Traffic is the WORST on 35, always! My v8 280zx just hit 250* today in stop-n-go traffic. I now have a whine coming from the engine (sounds like it's coming from the timing chain) and somehow the timing is 5* retarded than what I set it on two days ago -- I couldn't move the distributor with my hands, so I don't think the bolt is loose. I thought that was kind of odd. I'm now on the hunt for a Taurus fan, so I can hopefully fix this damn cooling problem. The only hope that I have for it not overheating so bad is that I have an autometer gauge running off of the chevy sending unit (because the autometer unit broke and I haven't ordered a new one yet), so maybe it didn't get as hot as I thought it did, but I do know that at idle it would start to sputter (and drop down from 900 to 500 rpms) and it started to blow smoke pretty bad until I got the temps down to about 230*, according to the gauge, anyways. I was on a bridge, so I couldn't pull over and shut her off...man, I can't recall a time when I've been more frustrated.

I absolutely hate I-35 with a passion, and will avoid it at all costs. Sorry, I wasn't expecting this to turn into a rant, but damn, I just needed to vent this out. Does anyone happen to know a good machinist in Austin? I think I'm going to pull the heads and have him pressure test them and check for warpage, if the compression tests don't look good. Thanks for reading...I almost want to start a website to just bitch about that god-forsaken interstate, if it hasn't already been done yet. *Sigh*

  5. I'm not sure if I'd like them, but when I get on my wireless connection this weekend I'll download a few of their songs...

But while we're talking music :-)

In flames ROCKS -- yes, they're that badass.

As of now I'm really into:

    HEAVY

Chimaira - just bought their new cd, which is pretty good. They have some pretty damn good breakdowns (to me)

Trivium - This band is REALLY good, really young, really talented, and have a lot of potential.

Unearth - a lot of talent in that band

It Dies Today - See Unearth, except more talent in vocals. That guy can scream, but he also sings suprisingly well.

Bury Your Dead - More of a mid/late-90s heavy metal sound, and they have some unbelievable breakdowns.

    NOT AS HEAVY

Thrice - Not near as heavy as the above, but a lot of talent in that band -- very melodic to say the least.

Saosin - Another melodic, talented band similar to thrice, but they have a distinct sound.

Evergrey - They have a great sound to them, the guitarist is really good, and they do a great job mixing piano and metal, but the only thing I don't like is their vocalist sounds too 80's -- it took me a while to get used to it.

I really used to be into Slipknot, but that last album tried to mix Stone Sour and Slipknot too much, and I came out pretty disappointed after I bought the album. Half of the songs on there are pretty good, but come on, Slipknot and acoustics?

Aux, if you enjoy In Flames, you probably know about their rival band, Soilwork. Well, the singer of Soilwork is involved in a project band, called Disharmonia Mundi. I believe "Oceangrave" is one of my favorites by them, but I can't remember exactly how it goes at this time. They use a lot of keyboards in their music...tastefully.

Sorry for the long post. As you can tell, I'm a music freak. BTW, Ozzfest is this weekend for me. HELL YEAH!

  6. We've had it happen at work before. We park the customer's vehicles in a designated parking lot, and sometimes you just don't see somebody coming around the corner. Not too long ago, one of our guys was watching the dash while he was braking slowly, and he ended up nailing somebody in front of him. He pays the $500 deductable, and insurance takes care of the rest. Personally, when a little fender bender like this happens to a normal vehicle, I just say sh*t happens, but it would be a totally different story to somebody who has a collector car or someone who spent a lot of time working with the body. It does suck, though, when your part was originally metal when you brought it in, and now it will most likely have some sort of filler when you get it back.

  7. Another forum (don't remember which one...it was a while back) had that video and they concluded it was from a blowout -- I'm not sure what kind of evidence they had to support their claim, though. I think stony's conclusion is better.

  8. I just installed a different video card in my computer, and the first picture that I looked at with it was that blue sparkly car -- scared me at first, I was thinking the card was messed up

  9. That's a big reason why I'm not in a big hurry to get a real paint job on my zx -- I mean yeah, it doesn't look too appealing with a primer job, but it would be pointless for somebody to key it, and if some jackass hits my door / body panel, I can hit his 3 times worse, and then go home and fix the damage cheaply and quickly

Sorry to hear about it the keying. I hate it when people are so damn disrespectful like that. Even though I think those Xb's (I think that's the right model) are really hideous, it's still your property and not theirs. But, lucky you, you went to school to learn how to do bodywork, so it shouldn't cost you an arm and a leg to repair.

  10. Honestly, it feels like it starts in the rear and progresses to the front. First it's a butt vibration (feels like you're driving over a cattle guard) and ends up in the steering wheel. But, it could just be my mind playing tricks on me -- I'm thinking the vibration in the rear may just be exaggerating the one that I already have in the front, because one (or both) of my front tires are out-of-round. I know this because I have a bad vibration in the steering wheel at 45 mph, and then at 70 mph. I've had it for a while now, though -- long before this started happening. I was going to re-index and rebalance the front wheels when I had the car on the lift yesterday, but I couldn't find my lug nut key for the two locking lug nuts I have in the front, so I wasn't able to remove them from the car. Hopefully after I take care of the front tires, I may have some luck into trying to pinpoint the problem a bit better.

  11. I'm the one that balanced them (at work), and yes, I did a dynamic balance. I don't have a lip on the outside, so I used clip-on weights on the inner lip and sticky weights on the inner rim right next to the spoke.

I'll check out the driveshaft and u-joints when I put her back up on the lift. The only thing is that I've felt driveshaft and u-joint vibrations before, and they weren't like this, but nevertheless, I can't rule them out just because I haven't seen them do it before. It's just so weird how the vibration comes and goes every 2 seconds. I'm always dealing with vibration problems at ford (especially with the new F-150s) and this one's new to me.

  12. I too, suspected a bent wheel, but I measured the rim runout at work and it passed, so I assume it's not a problem (unless the machine needs to be recalibrated). I should've checked the wheel bearings while I had it up in the air today, but then again, I was assuming the new tires would fix the problem. I can't think of anything that I may have damaged during the blowout, other than the rim. It wasn't a wild, out-of-control blowout -- I didn't even know I had one until I pulled over to see what why I was suddenly having so much resistance. The sidewalls on the old tires were pretty damn stiff, so despite not being inflated, it still did a fairly decent job of keeping the rim off of the ground.

Thanks so far for the replies!

  13. About a week ago I had a blowout in my zx. Because I have Ross C's 5-lug conversion on it, I don't have a matching spare. So, call a friend over to pick me up and take me to discount tire so I can have them change out my tire. They were closed, so I went to work and tried to find some used tire to fit - no dice. My last resort was Wal-Mart. They had a tire that would fit, but was slightly larger. Fine, I thought, as long as it will get me home. BTW -- all 4 tire sizes are 245/40/17 and they were replacing the blown-out tire with a 245/45/17. Well, when I was driving back home with it, I noticed it had a rhythmic vibration, like it would happen every 2 seconds. I figured it was something to do with the harmonics of the two different-sized tires spinning, so I figured I wouldn't worry about it until I get the tire sizes matching.

Today, I mounted two brand new BFG T/A G-force 255/40/17 tires in the back. BOTH the same size, BOTH identical tires, BOTH well-balanced and only showing 11-13 lbs. of road force, and it STILL has the vibration. It's tolerable at 55, annoying at 65, and downright scary at 75. My CD player will skip if I drive at 75 -- it shakes the living piss out of it. I'm used to working with vibration at work all the time, but I've never messed with one that only vibrated every 2 seconds.

I'm hoping some of you can help direct me where or what to check out that would cause the problem, because it's really getting scary to drive it. The only thing a search pulled up was that the tranny mounts or u-joints could possibly do this, but considering this only happened after the blowout, I doubt it's the problem. Thanks
