  1. To avoid confusion between me and my girlfriend's Z discussions, I decided to give them all names easy for her to remember:

    1972 240zt - Kiwi

    1982 280zxt - Turbie

    1982 280zx v8 - The V8

1977 280z 2+2 - Ugly (She'll be painted in a couple of weeks, so hopefully I can change her name -- although it may be difficult with that damn back seat :-) )

Kiwi seems to be about the most fitting name for the 240 -- I actually grew accustomed to it.

  2. That center piece will just snap back in. If they broke the clips, I'm a tech at a Ford dealership, so I can get them for free. I think I'll just install the factory stereo back in there. Oh yeah, they also stole the factory speakers behind my seat...sheesh. On a plus note, I found a junkyard that has my window for $45, so at least I won't be freezing my butt off in the morning.

  3. The officer taking the prints said that Austin's crime / theft rates had really increased since the people from Louisiana flocked over here...

Oh yeah, I also had the spare keys to my v8 280zx, parked only a few spots over, laying right on top of a Victoria British magazine. Good thing they couldn't put 2 and 2 together.

Don't think that's something to brag about, though. Not a good way to start my Friday morning :-( . The cops fingerprinted the scene, but I doubt I'll hear anything from this. Talk about unexpected! The reason why we chose to live here was because of the "low crime-rate". What's interesting is I had $200+ worth of car parts sitting on the passenger floorboard, but I guess the only thing they were interested in was the $800 cd player in the dash. Oh wait, they also stole the first-aid kit behind my seat, but they probably needed it for their bloody knuckles from busting my window. I wish I would've taken the serial number from the back of the cd player so I could identify it as mine -- I guess I'll know better for next time. It's times like this I'm glad Kiwi (my yellow 240zt) is locked up in her garage.

  5. Hmm...well, it's 1:00 a.m. over here, and I just installed the new slave cylinder. I bench bled the m/c, connected the slave, installed it on the Zx, and then had my g/f pump the pedal while I bled it out. Interestingly, I started the car in neutral, pumped the clutch pedal three times, and slid it into first...the only thing different was that the front of the car was jacked up. As soon as I dropped it back down and took it out, I could tell that the system still needed to be bled out a little more. I would bleed it again, but like I said earlier, it's late enough. But, this at least gives me a new hope. Have you thought about your hydraulics being the culprit to the knocking / grinding noise? Does it have trouble going into gear, or is it just when you're letting out on the pedal?

  6. I don't know if that balanced flywheel was even your problem in the first place (although I'm sure it didn't help). I'm having similar problems like you, but I have pre-86 350. I even have the Spec Stage III clutch to boot (actually, I think you were the one that recommended it to me :-) )

Anyways, here's my problem. If I start the car in neutral and then try to put it in gear, it won't go in. However, if I start the car in gear with the clutch in, it will begin to surge forward and I hear some metal to metal clanking and grinding noises, but after a couple of seconds it will go away and I can drive the car like normal. However, as soon as I turn the car off, I'll have to do it all over again. IT'S FREAKIN FRUSTRATING!!!

Usually right after that happens and when I drive in 1st gear, it will shake horribly, like you're describing. But as soon as shift out of it, it will feel normal. I'm going to replace the slave cylinder within the next hour with the factory T-56 slave from GM (I was using an O'Reilly slave before, so I'm just ruling out a faulty slave) It's weird, because I never had this problem before with the Centerforce dual friction clutch, but then when I switched over to the Spec Stage III, after about a thousand miles (mostly highway, and VERY light driving) it started doing this. I just got in the car one day, after it had been sitting for about a week, and it did this. I talked to the transmission mechanic at work, and he's never heard of any problem like that. He told me I was doing the right thing by ruling out hydraulics. I'm wondering if this could be a problem with the clutch. I've yet to pull the tranny back out, but it seems inevitable. Did you find anything else wrong with yours, or notice any kind of scratches or scores on any of the contact points? Looks like we'll be going at this together.

  7. "For a variety of cars with electronic fuel injection engine control, the SPINNER EXHAUST TIP has the beneficial effect to eliminate the initial hesitation of the engine under rapid acceleration. Furthermore, the exhaust gases emanating from the tailpipe will be uniformly dispersed into the atmosphere. In some instances the speed of the vehicle will be sufficient to create a negative presence at the outlet of the exhaust tailpipe to assist in the evacuation of the exhaust gases."

  8. Good thing your Z wasn't in Houston. Here's a picture of the storm damage:

Seriously, though, I'm glad to hear that you, your family, and of course your Z are all okay. Good luck with everything else

  9. Did you do all of the work to them, or were these just unfinished projects that they took out of your hands. It looks like they're taking credit for them:

    Datsun:

It is ironic I spent over $21,000 building this truck over 7 years to drive it and enjoy it, but it has not happened.

    Toyota:

The transmission on the car is off a 1987 non turbo Supra it is the famous W55 tranny. I chose it as it will easily sustain 600hp and an incredible amount of torque.

Custome designed all aluminum hard air box and then had my machinist make me it for me and it fits beautifully.

    Just curious

  10. I should have specified that the difference that I felt in acceleration with the vac. advance plugged was from a part throttle acceleration, and not WOT. Correct, at WOT, the timing should not change if the vacuum advance is connected or not. Then again, I'm still playing around with springs and weights, so my ignition system still may not be up to par.

  11. My cam has 230* duration at .050" of lift -- I'm running at 20* initial timing and it runs cooler and sooo much better than when I was running at 14* initial.

    ALSO

Be DAMN sure that when you mash the accelerator pedal to the floor, your carburetor is opening all the way. SBC engines need those secondaries opening up as far as they can.

You could also try disconnecting your vacuum advance and just plugging it up -- I know it helped my acceleration as well. I've always heard that for I high performance engine, you shouldn't run a vacuum advance on your timing. Good luck with it.

  12. "Honda iVTEC 4 Cylinder

Aluminum alloy block, cylinder head, sump

Chain drive DOHC 4 valves per cylinder

    1998cc

    Bore & Stroke: 86mm x 86mm

    Power: 220bhp @ 8200 rpm

    Torque: 196Nm @ 6100 rpm

    Cut off: 8600 rpm"

It also has a 6 spd gearbox -- I never knew those were available in the U.S. Damn I want one...perhaps even more than an Exige. The major advantage of the Atom (to me) is the price.
