  1. Moms'z yeah that was with the super low profile tires.. i went back to a 225/60 and brought it back up almost an inch and quarter =) so its not as bad but that was overall ride height not my suspension problem..... but after reading the FAQ sheet on sectioning... i guess this is what im going to have to do..i really like the ride height and the way it sits..but im not a welder so i guess a fab shop can do this. guess ill buy the lifetime warrenty strusts from autozone and just not worry about it anymore. Anyone from Tulse have a shop they trust for suspension work ?? thanks
  2. Hi guys and thnx for any comments or suggestions... Im contemplating painting my zx Mopar Plum Purple or at least a version of it that i found. Its actually a slightly lighter and more transluscent version of the the original Mopar version. Im trying to decide if i should use a Gold undercoat that i used for my last car that i painted emerald green. it seems to really make the color pop and im thinking this work work and i all ready have it on hand =). Any other suggestions?? or if you need further info such as paint codes i can get them. thnx Paul
  3. aww come on guys.. i figured i would get a bit of static at least with the horible picture =). The one problem i seem to running into is most of this information is for racers which is the title of the thread i was pointed to." great info though" and im running a 280z not 240 which most people seem to be racing. i finally think i have a grasp of what sectioning is and for me that seems a bit drastic so once again.. my question is for a 2 inch lowered z with no modified suspension other than eiback springs would the bilstiens for the 88-92 rabbit work in the 280 and if so what gland nut would i need since the sizes are diff from the 240 to 280? im really getting of tired of going through struts every year and would like something thats not going to crap out on me because i like to hit the curves on the way to work, school or weekend blast. Im also sorry if it seems like im repeating myself but im getting repeated answers that dont seem to apply to me. but then again they might and im just missing it. My car will not see track time nor autoxing unless i go to a local event to just play. This is a street driven car that i put about 7k miles on it a year. BTW am i the only member who isnt an engineer of some sort =)
  4. anyone remember the olds quad4??? and before you start hissing and booing..when it first came out and the weird "hybrid" olds aero thingy came out it sudddenly became the 4cyl of choice for kit cars and im sure they had them in rwd format.. beefed internals and turboed those things really put out some power... but once again.. 80k is about the life before another rebuild. i know i know.. not import but it would be different =0)
  5. That sounds extrmely simple yet one of those things you might never think of.. just tightening things the same woudl work fine unless your cars frame is twisted or uneven suspension settings.. have to add this one to my list of KISS..."keep it simple stupid" items. Thnx J. not to dog this one but any ideas about the torque settings on those graphite bushings? Since i havnt yet done this tip you mentioned im not sure if by doing it you will set the torque or it will balance itself out? i realize its just bushings but im a bit worried about not preloading them enough and defeating the purpose or to much and they split or crush the first couple of weeks. I'm beginning to realize how much there is to suspension then what i thought... just buy some springs and shocks and throw them on and go.. not quite plug and play as i assumed =)
  6. Blueovalz..... thast close to what i did when i replaced the bushings on my camaro. i had it on ramps so it was sitting normal and tightened the bushings on the links until they were slightly compressed to the size of the upper and lower washer. but not bulging .. im assuming this worked since they seem to have lasted 3 years just fine but im still a little worried about setting them correctly as im going to try some track time in this car for the first time and i want to make sure that everything is tightened down right.. thnx for the info though =) helps that someone had the same thoughts on it.. any other thoughts people??
  7. i pulled a 83swaybar for my 79 and it bolted right in but i have no idea if it was stock on my 79 since it was a wrecked rebuilt. so im not sure if that helps sorry
  8. hi guys... quick question for you i hope.. im redoing the bushings on the front of my 77z.. swaybar, a arm and such and when i received my bushings from energy suspension i realized there were absolutely no torque specs for the sway bar bushings .. i had both front and rear swaybar bushings replaced when i had my steering rack raplaced and they did it for free so ive never actually installed any. so any ideas of what the specs are or is this a shade tree type thing that you tighten until they split then back off 1/2 turn lol i took a quick peek through the search and came up with way to much about fabrication of swaybars and nothing about the bushings. thnx for any input or thoughts
  9. I know yoru looking for that single looking houseing for the bucket but i was in the Masarati dealership in Tulsa a few months ago for grins and teh new GT have a really nice looking dual projector bucket set up that i think would look awesome on a ZX or Z. crappy cell phone pics sorry but here is before and after when i first painted it you can really see the chrome and ridges inbetween the window and back glass http://www.t-mobilepictures.com/PaulH1970/_entry/8a38a9c908d5b2270108e60707673a73/ps/ENTRY/EDITENTRY?foneblog=1140506252565 this is a shot after i painted the trim and tinted the windows to make it look more uniform. ok not srue why it posted the links and not the pics..someone pls let me know what i did wrong =) http://www.t-mobilepictures.com/PaulH1970/_entry/8a38a9c8feb43bce00fecd4b8ffd4ebe/ps/ENTRY/EDITENTRY?foneblog=1140506303995
  10. yeah thats why i went to the chameleon paint.. it uses darker colors without being to glossy or shiny except for one angle with the green. but dead on its like a flat.. but a flat piece would look better.. with the darker colors the ridges dont look as bad but im sure someone wuld be able to mount somekind of flat piece there. soon as i get a digital camera again ill put up better shots.
  11. SO has anyone actually purchased these yet ?? i was watching them on ebay and they had 4 types for sell.. 4 colors actually and they all sold soo curious if anyone got them and how they look, quality, etc, etc. The gunmetal ones looked pretty nice.
  12. First thing i did when i repainted my 79zx was remove teh chrome B-pillars and paint them gloss black.. then i repainted them a chemeleon dark green to super dark purple. anything except shiny =) really makes the side of the car flow better.. especially when you have tinted windows.. looks like a smooth one peice.. nothing against chrome but they really dont look good onthe B-piller IMO. PIc of mine red zx on my profile
  13. first photo shows teh size i believe says 225/50 zr 15... if thst them its a great look .. not to lowprofile but nice adn aggressive =)
  14. wish it was mine... love that stance and the color combo.
  15. oh.. they do look like the old supra rims.. never even noticed that =)
  16. heres a crappy pic from my cell showing from the rear how low it is. hope this works. http://www.t-mobilepictures.com/PaulH1970/_entry/8a38a9c8091fd35e010928c044df2ad3/ps/ENTRY/EDITENTRY?foneblog=1139295310956
  17. Yeah.. shorter cartridges... mine are so compressed once its on the ground they have no suspsension travel at all.. they are stock replacement struts and i have really shortened springs so they are not working well together unless the road is really smooth. handles like a go cart though but not suitable for daily driving which is what i need.. some one mentioned sectioning but will that help with standaard strut cartridges?? thnx for any and all help.. gimme a cam to install any time.. this suspension stuff is killing me
  18. I read through that and some GREAT info in there but mostly for racers who do track time and street... my car is strictly for street... so im a little unsure if the Konis are going to be ok.. and im not sure what revalveing means anyways.. i woudl just like a shrter strut so i quit bottoming the strut out.. it has maybe 2 inches and then bam.. lowering springs and regular struts from Outozone are just not working together correctly i guess.
  19. Wayyy off topic. went to Bell Gardens Intermediate in 75-76 BGI as they called it then
  20. Nice Conquest Rims on the back J T... loved those rims since the first time i saw them. what 5 lug adaptor did you use??
  21. quite a while ago someone posted a bunch of links and part numbers for shorter struts that will bolt up to a 280z that was lowered but not for the coil overs.... basically i believe it was VW or Porsche struts that fit and im hoping someone on here either remembers that link, posting or maybe even who it was that posted it. i would be really grateful. i did run a search but couldnt come up with anything specific other than struts for coilover kits. My z has been lowered around 3-4inches all the way around with a set of old Eibach progressives and really low profile tires and im bottoming my struts out bad.. any help would be great Paul
  22. Ive taken a quick look around and cant seem to find exactly what im looking for but im looking to buy a 78 with bone stock FI .. njust had new fuel tank, fuel pump, injectors and harness and new afm but it runs really rich. This is owned by a mechanic and he is lost as to why it riuns this way.. they have tried replacing the new stuff and 3 diff afm and diff injectors and can t find the source of hte prob but someone told me that they had a recall or service warning on the 78 and had to add somekind of electronic resistor or something to keep it from running really rich?? does anyone have any idea about this or can they point me in the right direction pls thnx guys
  23. WOW... thats going to look so smooth and original at the same time that even a Z nut might not get it the first look or two or 8... great job
